Cal can you put braided line onto a baitcast reel either too tight or too loose?

Sure....I suspect too loose causes more problems then too tight, but just use your gut instinct...If you do end up having a problem you won't make the same mistake twice.....

Is there a difference between the 5500 and the 6500 when it comes to the length of the line for the hybrid setup

You get an additional color or two of lead on the 6500, but the setbacks with 5 colors gets very long.

You can get a lot of line on a 6500. Imo it’s really more than you need for trout. And of course Cal is right on about setbacks with more leadcore. We’ve run them with 3,4,5, and 6 colors and they get less practical when you’re running more than 3 colors. I still set mine up at 5 but 90+% of the time I go to a DR if I’m using more than 3. If you do elect to run more colors a shorter top shot helps a bit with setback but it’s still a lot of reeling. Cal’s original leadcore setup is pretty hard to beat. YMMV
