I never beat the game but I might attempt it again after watching this. My favourite part of the game was discovering jump jets by accident. My brother didn't believe me. Just blew our minds that you can fly, especially since I had already played well over a year without knowing it.
A lot of people say the game aged horribly, but I love coming back to it every now and then. It's literally a 1989 open-world (or should I say open-galaxy XD) game with randomly-generated missions that can be finished in 2 or 3 hours (if you know what you're doing). However, if you decide to play it again, remember to work only for Steiner or Davion if you want an easier time, as they allow infinite contract negoiations, which would allow you to get 3 or 4 times more c-bills & salvage than if you worked for others. Working for Liao or Kurita is like playing on "hard" difficulty, as you can only offer 2 or 3 contract counter-offers before they outright refuse to work with you, and they offer low pay and salvage. And only work for Marik if you're a friggin' masochist, 'cause they often make up excuses to pay you only half of the agreed-upon c-bills on successful contract completion and sometimes just leave you stranded, forcing you to pay for a trip back out of your own pocket.
I can't help but say this. This is my first time seeing MW1 and it looks and sounds like a cute game o_ô *No offense intended, I friggin loved MW3 and 4*
@nijunikuro Yes the Targeting computer and other gear like the Bap and C3 was fun, however were you ever able to head shot precisly every time like one could in Mechwarrior 1?
@BrothersGroove I never use cheats and I've only played the "MW2: Mercenaries", not the original "MW2: The Ghost Bear Legacy". I'm guessing they planned to put Battlemaster in MW2, but didn't finish it on time, so they had to scrap it and only left the alpha/beta version available through debug codes. Such things actually happen supprisingly often within the gaming industry.
Battlemaster in MW2 well... ...there was the debacle involving Harmony Gold leading to FASA being unable to use some mech designs, specifically the ones based off of Macross (in this game, specifically the Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Warhammer, and Marauder). While they were perfectly fine using designs based off of Dougram and Crusher Joe (Locust, Shadow Hawk, and Battlemaster), they didn't want another lawsuit and made those mechs "Unseen". They also did the same with in MW2 with the then introduced "IIC" variant battlemechs (except the Hunchback IIC and scant few others). It wasn't till a few years ago that Harmony Gold's case against BattleTech bit them on the arse when HG had the rights for the Shows they used for Robotech, never the actual MECH DESIGN RIGHTS! Since then, BattleTech has been getting back into the swing of things by bringing back the Unseen into the spotlight. Heck, this Nov 21st, the HBS BattleTech game is adding in the Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Warhammer, and Marauder into the game! (with the Warhammer and Marauder being freebies) But yeah, the reason why the Battlemaster and the like weren't in MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries is all Harmony Gold's Fault. To be honest, they kinda started it with a rip-off Mad Cat toy.
I remember this being SOOOO SLOW on my Tandy. Missions would easily take 30 minutes. Only my brother beat the game. I just played it open ended forever.
Yes. My friend’s computer played the game much faster than my computer. His Battlemaster ran faster than my Locust. 😆 I enjoyed the slow mode on mine. I could target and destroy incoming Missiles and Auto-Cannon shells with my machine guns. 😉 My favorite BattleMechs in the game are the Phoenix Hawk (mostly because it resembles a Veritech Fighter Battloid) and of course the Battlemaster. 😉
@SteelWolf13 Actually, there was a Targeting Computer in MW3 you could use to target specific parts. I never had any problems targeting individual enemy parts without one, tho.
As far as I know, noone's made a MW1 LP yet. There are LPs for more or less every other MechWarrior or Battletech game, but I haven't seen a single one on MW1.
Played this at release on a 386 and it ran much slower, as if the mechs had weight and mass. There was nothing in the code to slow it down. I reinstalled it years later on a Pentium and it ran too fast like this. They look like paper dolls running around.
This is a bit of a dumb question, but, how do i trigger the final mission after delaying it? I tried flying to kirchbach, but I never see the prompt that asks you if you want to delay, or attack. I also tried going to Albiero, with the same result...
@@nijunikuro It's October 3028 in my game, so I'm fairly certain I'm on time, plus, from what I saw in another video, when you do take too long to make preparations, the game at least gives you a message telling you that the crown was retrieved by somebody else and attacking the base is pointless, when you fly to certain planets. House Kurita is pissed off at me, so maybe that's causing an issue?
@@fevermario It shouldn't. Kurita hated me in several of my playthroughs and I had no problems starting the final mission. Are you sure you finished the story up to that point on that save and that you were on the right planet? I can't think of anything else that might be the cause atm. :/
@@nijunikuro I'm starting to wonder if my copy of the game isn't somehow bugged, or corrupted. I flew to Kirchbach again, same thing, no final mission prompt. And just to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, I even played through the entire game over again, up to the part where you get the data disk telling you where the chalice is being kept, and kill Grig. Hmm... Could be lots of things, I guess. An outdated browser or Flash Player Plug-in? Or maybe you're just trying to upload a video format that RUclips doesn't support? How big's the video file and what's your Internet connection's upload speed? I guess 1st you should try converting your video to a different file format or use a different video codec.
