- "The Edge" is a story of suppressed passion and destructive obsession set in a remote post WWII Siberian village sparkled by the arrival of Ignat, an emotionally and physically damaged Soviet tank commander with an obsession for steam engines. His self destructive streak causes increasing havoc until he makes an astonishing discovery in the forest. Elsa is a German girl who had lived in an old steam engine in the forest for four years. Despite no common past or culture, by protecting Elsa, Ignat discovers how he can save himself. When they return to the village with the locomotive they have christened "Gustav", a head to head, a winner-takes-all locomotive race will decide their fate. The only question is how much strength and fury can there be in one man, in his battle to assert his identity and to defend his love and eventually to become the winner ... or forever remain a spirit trapped, never to be free.

How do 302 people "dislike" this movie?! They could not have watch it. Its obviously not based on story acting or film making, Love the way Russian movie makers use story development, looong dramatic shots, and lets a scene breath to convey a message instead of crap special effects. This is a well done and good movie. Already stated on all the comments but just had to ad my 2 cents.

Well for starters, the main character is an egoistic self-proclaimed guy, who does whatever he pleases for no apparent reason other than to fill up the screen time. I watched it as a train/steam engine enthusiast, and suffert the whole way through. Seems to me that mostly the bots are commenting on this video.
Russians are real masters of portrying the laymen along with their miseries but their little moments of joy are mountainous. Brilliant movie. thanks for sharing.
Yulia Peresild who plays Sofia just went into space on Soyuz MS-19 to the space station to shoot a film. She is married to Alexei Uchitel, the director of the film The Edge (Krai).

I am a Malaysian. This is the Russian film that I've ever watched.This Russian film outclassed almost all the Hollywood films. I recommend 5 gold medal[Oscars]award for this!
The more Russian movies I more I find that they are well written, the acting is very good and there is depth. Lots of emotions are expressed.
They learn on playing characters from Russian literature- which are the most deeply introspective literary works in the World. That’s the reason USA and NATO have to show Russians as cruel savages who fight Ukraine for no reason, but Ukraine is their project and they posed real threat physically and ideologically, people of Ukraine are glad that Russia started freeing them from ruling Nazi Regime.
Nice movie. The depth of it. No CGI's, all real. A story of the humanity of people, convincing and entertaining. More and more I dislike the regular Hollywood-Junk, these endless stereotypes of...nothing.
They were CGFX, but very lightly were done, not to overwhelm and dominate the whole beautiful picture !!!!

I found this movie to be very intense, so much suffering and twisted morality - too many years of traumas stacked upon traumas blurred the lines of right and wrong. Made me think that's for sure. Love the steam trains aspect of the storyline, and if he didn't see that gauge coming at his head then...ouch! Thanks for the upload. The actress is Yulia Peresild...the first actress to go to space station to make a film for the movie the challenge.
Never regret sleeping this late at 2am in the morning, even i have to wake up early as 5am for work. Good one, its the connection between two sides during or after the war, even enemies can be protector, lovers, & friends.

A uniqje movie, set in WWII, that does not merely about great weapons and glorious battles, but more about humanities between the winner and the one who defeated in the war. This movie have beautiful cinematography and strong characters. It's a good Russian movie.
