- I put as many different portrayals here as I could. If a certain actor doesn't appear here I either couldn't find or didn't have audio/video of them singing the song, or they didn't perform the role until after the video was published.

I love hearing Meg from Hercules sing Belle
😂😂😂😂
Susan Egan is immensely talented. I love her voice.
WOOOOOO!
You mean... you love Belle as Meg from Hercules. LOL.
Also quite nice hearing Rose Quartz from Steven Universe sing Belle 😂
anyone else remember the lyrics as “what i’d give to return to the life that i knew lately, but i know that i cant solve my problems gping back”?
that's the newer one when lyrics was changed. the one here was the original.
same with ms saigon some songs underwent a few lyric changes over the years it was showing
Those lyrics were the original when it was having tryouts at Theatre Under The Stars.
It feels like with Susan Egan's deeper voice it shouldn't work, but that's what makes her performance perfect. (besides her amazing vocal technique hehe) Her voice just has this amazing quality, especially with the lower notes, and the emotion is amazing.
Also Anneliese is so good, I had no clue she played Belle, but woww!
Hats off to all these ladies!!
Favourites in chronological order:
Susan Egan 0:00
Caroline Vasicek 1:46
Talia del Val 43:23
Hilary Maiberger 44:15
Anastasia Yatsenko 45:12
And a sentimental shout out to Melissa Thomson for being the Belle I saw as a child where I was eternally captivated by the magic of the entire production. 4:28
I think Melissa is the best. She never falters for a second and has the perfect emphasis. She had the perfect amount of emotion.
Sarah Darling (around 30:00) REALLY nails it. Great belt, lovely rubato going into the key change, singing "Shut away...Oh but then" all on one breath with lovely resonance on the high D, and later E on "build higher walls".
Eric Berthiaume she did take a breath right between “until” and “who knows when”. But you’re right, it’s lovely!
A little too punch for me lol
I was there when annelise was there and we were shook cause we didnt know she was the lead (school kids) when she stepped out, we all lost out shit cause of Thats so Raven and always seeing her on tv🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
This is my favorite showtune of all time, but I always think it’s so awkwardly funny how Madame de la Grande Bouche is just chilling upstage the whole time before she’s introduced.
Also Anneliese is from That's so Raven, right? Because dang she's an amazing singer how did i not know XP
She sang regularly on Disney!😂
Apparently, she was the youngest person to play Evita at age 15, so Belle was probably a cakewalk for her
@@broadway_blonde1277 Whoa what
Anneliese is highly underrated! She deserves so much more recognition for her amazing talents!
Yes an christy Carlson Romano aka ren from even Stevens was belle also
I loved Toni Braxtons performance in beauty and the beast
Ah, I LOVE Susan Egan and Analiese Van Der Pol! They are killing the game!
Did I miss it or did you not have Christ Carlson Romano in this video?
I dont know what it is about Susan Egan's voice but I just love her so much 😂♥️
It has a little bit of grit and toughness. Love.
❤
A few Christines and Glindas in this comparison. This was super cool!
A Nessarose too!
And an Elphaba!
Who
I never Andrea Burns was belle!! I remember her from In the Heights!
She’s so solid! I was obsessed with her role in In The Heights and some of her original music
I wish the audio of Toni Braxton singing Home was still on RUclips!
i just got audio of her show!! and it was off RUclips for more than 5 years?
@@Broadwayriah AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I liked Hillary Mailberger
Really enjoy hearing Michelle Gayle sing (I previously posted a comment from my old account) I just tried to see if there was a clip of her singing the whole song but there isn't 😭😭
There are some great singers in this video, but my heart will always belong to Susan Egan.
Susan Egan, Rachael Beck, Melissa Thomson, Julie-Alanah Brighten,Kim Huber, Kerry Butler, Leah Delos Santos, Michelle Gayle,Susan Owen,Kiara Sasso, Dianne Pilkington, Nikki Renee Daniels,Jo Jung-Eun,KC Concepcion,Ashley Brown, Sarah Uriarte Berry,Brigitte Heitzr, Anneliese van der Pol,Lolita Cortes,Talia del Val,Hilary Maiberger and Jillian Butterfield.
Thank you so much for this comparison video! I long wondered if it were possible for a Belle one to be created. I am so thrilled to see it has come true. Home is one of my all time favorite songs from musical theatre.
My favorites among those featured here are as chronologically follows. Susan Egan, Andrea Burns, Leah Delos Santos, Michelle Gayle, Susan Owen, Ann Sanders, Michelle Millardi, Megan McGinnis, Nikki Renee Daniels, Jo Jung-Eun, KC Concepcion, Ashley Brown, Sarah Darling, Ann van den Broeck, Annelise van der Pol, Arianna, Talia del Val, Hilary Maiberger (who was the only one I saw live from this list but it was wonderful) and Jillian Butterfield.
Each of these ladies brought a great amount of strength and sensitivity in both vocal and acting delivery that is needed for this number. I say bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a side note, though they have never been able to play the character of Belle. I like to hope the opportunity can arise for them one day in the near future. Especially when the possibility of a revival lingers in the air. Anna O'Byrne and Elisa Colla have each shared their own sample of this song at various concert specials which I have been fortunate enough to listen to. They are beautiful and magnetic on it. :)
i feel like no one's mentioned Melissa Thompson yet, but her acting is on point, she's really connecting with the song!
Agreed! I can't find her anywhere online but she's my favourite!
Megan McGinnis was my Belle when I saw the show! So many memories ❤️
Thank you for posting this! Been looking for something like this for this song for the longest time. This song makes or breaks the show for me. Needs to be done absolutely perfectly with a flawless quality of tone and just right amount of rubato - how beautiful!
Thank you SO much for this video. I’m preparing to play Belle in August and this is so helpful in all the different interpretations and inflections.
Susan Egan will always be the Perfect Belle to me 🥀
Other Belles I loved:
Melissa Thompson, Ashley Brown, Katie Rowley Jones, Sarah Darling, Annalise Van der Pol
I saw Nikki Renee Daniels performing this part. She was wonderful
RUclips has a whole video of Nikki in the California production of Beauty and the Beast
She’s one of the most underrated musical actresses in general
I love Michelle Gayle's version it just has this nice magical feel, it reminds me of brandy in roger and Hammersteins Cinderella
Glad you added Arianna (38:58), Italian Original Cast ❤
Damn, Barcelona, is that neckline low enough? 😂😂
where is the Toni performance?I've looked everywhere!
Ryland Tucker 11:50
Caroline Vasicek has such a beautiful voice!
They're all great but my favourite is Melissa Thomson from 1996. She has something about her performance that I think she nailed in the bullseye.
SAME!
I saw Liz Shivner in the Les Mis US tour 5 years ago! She was a swing, the dance captain and a Fantine understudy.
Ha imagine Emma Watson attempting this song.
Molly Pinks- The idea of it makes my facial expression do this automatically. :/
Ms. Waston, for all of her acting talent is not a vocalist. She leaves far too much to be desired. And if she intends to become one. She needs a significant amount of disciplined training.
Not even on the simpler numbers could she hide how fatigued she was. Her range may only cover a single octave at best. She sounds nasally and scratchy when attempting to hit a brief high note in head voice. Her lack of breath control was obvious. Ended a phrase as quickly as she could because she can not sustain. Went sharp constantly. She just barely has an awareness of pitch. Above all, she sounded emotionally hollow. She can not even do recitative delivery at a decent level. Let alone sing a full fledged melody as complex as Home.
Singing is just like strength training. Your muscles need to be developed and maintained in a healthy manner as to achieve clarity in the head voice and power in the chest voice. Then step it up a notch by learning how to fuse technique and emotions together.
These women on this comparison video know exactly how to bridge these forms together.
Ms. Waston was out of her league just attempting to sing Belle's reprise. Her attempting to sing Home. She would probably blow out her vocal cords before even hitting the final verse.
Blair Bart- Before this comes to an end. (I will let you linger on why that is) This needs to be said.
As Anna from the musical The King and I states "I will say no more because there is nothing more to say."
Blair Bart shut up. You know nothing of quality musical theatre (your profile picture proves that, disaster musical seriously?) and how songs are to be sung. Yes Emma Watson is a good belle in looks and acting but her voice although it is pretty is just not strong enough for belle. She could try and sing the song and even if it wasn't awful it would be mediocre at best.
I know you said your "word is final" but I got something I gotta add. I saw farther back that you said your "only stating facts" and that she's a perfect vocalist but I'm sorry, that'd just simply not true. She probably started her vocal training right before filming started just so she would sound decent. And the autotuned the hell out of her. They the only reason they cast her is because she's a famous actress so box office sales would skyrocket with her in the role. If they had a broadway actress in the role, not as many people would be interested in seeing the movie. Unfortunately that's how it works in the film industry. So long story short, they cast her for her acting, not her singing. I mean she has a nice sounding voice but it's clear that she hasn't had much training prior to filming.
20:39 Dianne Pilkington
24:07 Katie Rowley Jones
26:05 Ashley Brown
Magali Sanchez was the original Belle in Argentina Revival Cast, we had other prodution (same as broadway) in 1998 . Argentina had 2 porudtions 1998 , leading was Marisol Otero, and 2010 Magali sanchez . Understudies in 1998 was Pili Artaza, Belén Mackinlay . In 2010 Florencia Anca, Natalia Voloninno
Its so funny how different the Belles look across the world! The one for Barcelona is insane!
Andrea Mc Ardle, the original Annie ❤❤❤
00:00 Susan Egan
30:06 Sarah Darling
45:06 Hilary Maiberger
Susan Egan, Anneliese van der Pol, Hilary Maiberger, Sarah Darling & Emily Behny are My favorite Belles
I love Susan Egan!
Purr Kitty Catman *sAME*
She even sounds like Paige O’Hara
Mariah Raichert- I love both Paige and Susan! But I personally don't think they sound alike. Mainly because their timbre (vocal pitch) is very different.
Silver54ful True
Same she's my fave :)
I actually really like Erin Dilly (3:32)... she has an adorable accent and nice vibrato. And Melissa Thomson (4:28) has beautiful control... she's my favourite.
Love your videos!
That Magali Sanchez from argentina in 2010 is absolutelly espectacular. like, whar she did, her technique was amazing
Anyone else think Debbie Gibson looks EXTREMELY gorgeous here? Pretty strong performance too, IMO. Also, I actually quite enjoyed Toni's interpretation. Sure, she's not as "belty" as some of the other singers and her key was lowered, but her runs and inflections are very pleasing to my ear.
Most of the singers who were Belle are Sopranos. Toni is an alto. Nice to see an alto to play Belle.
Debbie and Toni are both examples of good stunt casting. Actually good singers.
I find it very interesting that no one seems to mention Andrea McCardle in their list of favorites, especially considering that she out-sings everyone of these ladies by a mile. No one is even close to her. I suspect no one can let go that she played Annie as a young girl and they write her off as not even being worth mentioning. Just listen again...she blows the others away and sounds effortless doing it.
I like her the best. Most of these singers, though very good, don’t really stand out from each other. But Andrea has a character to her voice that I think makes her sound unique and interesting.
My favorites who best captured Belle in this scene are Susan Egan, Melissa Thomson, Dianne Pilkington, Megan McGinnis, Ashley Brown, Christina DeCicco, and Patricia Paisal.
Sorry to ask, but where did you get the recording of Toni Braxton? I tried looking up any recordings of her performance, but all I got was her singing A Change In Me.
Susan Egan, Kim Huber, Sarah Iriarte…..love them saw them all, waiting for Jenna to be on the list.
all i hear is megara! so underrated
Susan Egan
Leah Delos Santos
Anneliese Van Der Pol
Liz Shivener
Talia del Val
Hilary Maiberger
Jillian Butterfield
But my favorites are Susan Egan and Hilary Maiberger
The Japanese Gaston at 2:55 looks like Elvis Presley.
Did I miss Christy Carlson Romano? I know she played Belle, but I’m not sure what year that was 🤷🏼♀️
I love this video mainly because it helps me to see how I compare to all these girls for our high school production of Beauty and the Beast. I tend to get too light and airy to the point of being too quiet on the higher C’s and D’s especially when I sing “Build higher walls around me” and on the whole part where it says “What I’d give...” Any suggestions to stop that from happening?
So many of the UK Belle's went on to be in Wicked.
21:30 Y'all are sleeping on Megan McGinnis smh she's so iconic
I feel like she’s regarded as one of the best? Sorry did the late reply
As someone who doesn't know most of these ladies, that particular performance sounded very weak compared to what I've heard in the beginning of the video.
Hillary Maiberger is the best belle out of them all...
Omg does anyone know where the full recording of Ann van den Broeck’s version is. I need it she’s the best 😍
The holy diamond herself Susan egan
Susan Egan!! ❤️
Would it be possible to do a Dreamgirls comparison or a comparison of Something Wonderful from The King and I?
I like almost of these singers. I love Beauty and The Beast. I dressed up as Belle for Halloween a few years. I think Susan Egan was great as Belle. So was Toni Braxton. I love the addition of Change in Me.
It's a great song. I am just wondering where is Christy Carlson Romano's performance? She played Belle as well.
Kiara Sasso ❤️
Hilarious Maiberger's my favourite 😁
Anneliese van der pol!!!
annaleise is just iconic
Dianne Pilkington
Michelle Gayle 💖 💖 💖
Where did you get the audio of Michelle Gayle singing?
Kiara Sasso e Lissah Martins ❤
What about the Paris production!?
And also Jillian Butterfield
Kinda loving all the blonde Belles lol
What about Chrissy Carlson Romano??
I’m here for the same reason 😭
Susan Egan is the best playing Belle
Obviously a song from the stage musical only, which is why neither Paige O'Hara or Emma Watson are mentioned.
I love Ann Sanders but why is she smiling in this song?
I saw many of these, most of the Broadway leads, plus a number of others - I still think Susan Egan was my favorite, but a couple of other favorites aren't here, alas - Barbara Folts, Christianne Tisdale, etc. I loved Ann Sanders, though, and Kim Huber (who I saw go on for Susan Egan once)
Where did you find Michelle Gayle’s recording?
46:03 She was also Belle in the Disney Cruise Line reimagining of the 2017 live action film. She should’ve sang Courtney Stapleton’s version from the UK Tour.
I absolutely adore that show! I've only watched it on RUclips but Jillian perfectly marries Paige's voice acting and Emma's "updates" while making me believe she really falls for Beast in a way that Emma's Belle never convinced me of.
Susan, Annalise and Ashley
When Susan starts singing, I immediately recognize her voice.
Yeah cuz that's Meg from Hercules
I want to sing This in English, Spanish and Italian
where is Christy Carlson Romano?
magali Sanchez....lovely
Can you do a compilation of A Change In Me?
You'll have to Start with Toni Braxton, the Song was Made Specifically for Her.🙂🎶 11:37
@@davidshelton7104 true
Debbie Gibson 9:46 sounds really like Katie Rowley Jones :o
You see tape on some of their foreheads, the Dutch girl wasn't real for Belle but many were not sure about the Spanish girl she looks natural brunette
My favorite was Hailey Maiberger
She did the best Change in Me imo
Kiara Sasso
mlissa thompson- toronto. amazing
YES!
Deborah Gibson looks so much like her mother Diane in this clip.
Do you have the full show of some of that actress?
I'm guessing no recording of Christy Carlson Romano as Belle in 2004 exists?
I stand with WADA- Hey there. Long time no see my fellow theatre fan. Good to see you again.
When you have time. Come on over to my disscussion section on my channel. I have something to share with you. :)
I heard an audio recording of her long ago and it was alright. She emphasized words in a peculiar way if I can recall.
*sUSAN EGAN*
I saw Toni and then saw Andrea McArdle who replaced her.
I wish I could’ve seen Toni!! How was she? I know they changed her whole costume as well.
That had to be interesting. They are both so good, and yet so very different.
Christina Nixon , Molly Snodgrass, Megan Hudson, Abagail Storm , Dainela Garcia, Paige ohara, Christy ray Romano, Kara Lindsay, Ryan Pfeiffer, Christina Phipps, Emilie de ravin, Emma Watson, Keegan connor tracey.
Call me crazy but I just think Susan Egan’s voice is too nasally. Not only that, but many of the actresses over acted way too much in this video. I tend to be very picky with this song because it is so easy to make this song too belty or too breathy when in reality, it should be mostly mixed. Hilary Maiberger was the only one that did that. It goes to show that she is receiving excellent training. Keep up the good work, Hilary!
McKeena Sanford - If you prefer listening to the mix voice interpretations of the this solo number. I highly recommend listening to Anna O'Byrne's rendition of it. :)
Was Sarah Litzsinger in this comparison? If so, I missed her.
Sorry, no she is not featured. They didn''t have a video or audio of her. Nor did they have Deborah Lew. :(
Thanks, Silver!
@@johnnolte322 Your welcome. Sorry I couldn't share happier news.
Ashley Poppins Brown !
I'm praying they revive this within the next few years since the movie came out recently!
I'm 17 right now so id be around the right age if they did it within the next 10 years or so...XP (probably wont happen since it didn't close too long ago but...)
