i am pretty sure the whole "focus on the boss" thing significantly reduced your damage, not increased it because both your dragons and your dogs focussed on the earlier enemy reducing your dps on the boss siginficantly especially when you had piercing meaning you hit both anyway

Piercing lowers your damage beyond the first enemy
Piercing in this game mine as well not exist. It lowers the damage to nothing.
