Diamond and rubies! Love your enthoutsiasm. YES is the best rock ever. Some of their inspiration they drew from Weather Report, King Crimson and Stravinsky. Believe it or not. Go check those out and keep rocking! Go crazy! ❤
Love to see younger people discover Yes. Your trapped now! But it's a great place. Welcome! I think they have extra brain cells we aren't privileged to share. I've been with them since 72 and feel lucky to have shared their music with great friends. I've seen CTTE, Tales, Relayer, Awaken, all live. They are one of life's most important things for me,and I hope more people discover this joy in their life and the joy of being alive to share it.
1974 would never be the same again 😆🤣😂😃 I used to listen to this every day on 8-Track tape in my 1973 Dodge Charger on my way to school my senior year in 1983. And to think that I had math class first period right after listening to the "Relayer" album. This is progressive rock, classical music wrapped in one, or should I say, Igor Stravinsky?
This is not 1 of my favorite Yes tunes, but I gotta tell ya. During their tremendous 1976, what they called their "Solo" tour, I was lucky and blessed to have been among the many at their biggest attended concert of their career. Me and 129,999 of my friends at JFK Stadium, South Philly. This song was played as a "note for note", perfect rendition of the studio version. To this day and some 15 Yes concerts later, it could very well be the best song I've ever heard these "masters of music" perform in a live setting. Long live the mighty Yes.
Extraterrestrials Pope. Most definitely. I bought this album the day it came out when I was 14 years old. My favorite thing to do was to listen to this album on my father's experimental electrostatic Koss headphones. Very loud as well. Yes has always done their best work live in concert too. I have seen the more times than I can count.
Wow great to see you're doing so many YES songs. Check out "That, That Is" and "The Revealing Science of God". I know it from Tales from Topographic Oceans but I really like the live version they did on The Keys to Ascension album. It's a great album.
John, you have great taste in music. Those two songs are among the best of Yes. I saw them do "Revealing", my personal favorite twice in concert. 1997 and 2002. I always thought that they should have done "That That Is", a very underrated song.
Before I watch you listen to this, I already know its gonna blow your mind. Features my favourite guitar solo of all time . right in the middle. The band indeed were on another cosmic plain when they recorded this. And Patrick Moraz complimented them perfectly.
The 'mini moog' part is a one off modified moog built by Patrick Moraz's sound engineer years earlier and uses a spring arrangement to modify the pitch bend. to hear more use of it take a listen to Patrick's previous band 'Refugee'
My favorite part is from 8:29 to the end. The keyboard solo from Patrick Moraz, guitar from Steve Howe and the blazing rhythm section of Chris Squire and Alan White. This whole song is just incredible! Relayer is definitely a desert island disc for me and might be my favorite Yes album.
So awesome and fun to watch you "get it" like we all did decades ago. You pretty much mirrored my reaction the first time I heard "Sound Chaser". Just mind blowing what these guys did.
YES getting into jazz fusion, which was popular at the time as Miles' alumni formed their own bands and explored the Universe (e.g. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Weather Report).
I guess you should check out some King Crimson, at least their debut album which says it all : In the court of the crimson king, issued in 1969. Those guys were much ahead of their time. There are a lot of other albums by them, always different, always fascinating, and many different line-ups. The only musician who's there since the beginning and all the way through is their master of ceremony Robert Fripp. They're still there and touring !!! Hope you'll enjoy if you go there. And thanks again for promoting the music we love, you are amazing.
I remember playing this song in my high school English class back in the 70's. Everyone - including the teacher - was spellbound. A few other things you might want to check out are: Todd Rundgren's Utopia (1974), PFM - Live in USA, also known as PFM - Cook (1974), Patrick Moraz (who plays keyboards on Sound Chaser) - The Story of I (1976) and Argent - Circus (1975). They just don't make'm like they used to.
The most unique description of Yes music I've ever heard. Congrats! My first concert ever was the tour that they were highlighting this album. Didn't need any drugs. Their music provided everything needed for the experience.
Now imagine what it would be like for it just to be the music you grew up!! 1955 to 1980 was the greatest period of music composition and performances in the history of mankind!! I was born in 1956, and I can imagine what it would have been like for the music to grow up with is that which has been produced in the past 40 years. It pales in comparison to what we baby boomers were blessed to grow with! And praise and bless the Living God for Les Paul, for without his invention of the electric guitar Rock n Roll would not be!!
YES: Album: "The Ladder" songs: "Homeworld & (all three): "The Messenger", "New Language" "Nine Voices" YES; Album: "Magnification" songs: "In the Presence Of", "Dreamtime" "Magnification" also "Mind Drive" on Keys to Ascension 2
Hi Man ! Good to see you rejoicing with Yes ! Yes, they are Angels from another world, for our great pleasure ! Now, you'll go to listen ( in order, original mix) "The Tales from Topographic Oceans" ! A 4 sides out-of-this-world-saga ! Have a nice trip !
I entered h.s. in 1972 just as these prog bands were peaking... Back then you bought an album and played it through its entirety. When you first played these albums you never knew what you were going to hear. These bands experimented so much you didn't know what to expect. We thought that's the way it always was and always would be. Prog eventually ran out of ideas and gas and the era was over. Now looking back the music created in that period was some of the best music ever created. And, because the had to record to tape, they had to master their instruments and become a cohesive unit
Yo Pope, love what you're doing. I may have mentioned this before, Yes is the deeper waters. Not everyone can get into it, but the musical intelligence and the crazy ass shit they did with that talent is not of this planet. I can tell that not only are you listening, you're feeling it, which is their point anyway... Be well Bro.
Hey Buddy, so glad you got into Sound Chaser, what a blast, it's arguably the most technically challenging Yes piece. As you're probably noticing having listened to most of Relayer, the album is quite different to any of their other material. IMO the inclusion of Patrick Moraz as keyboardist had a significant impact on the overall sound, energy and intensity of the music. After the Relayer concert tour they all took time out to make solo albums, Patrick created "The Story of I" a concept album which was released in 1975. Like Relayer it was a marriage of Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion, with a Latin American theme and feel. Would recommend you check out the first 4 tracks which run into each other, here's a good clip: ruclips.net/video/AMFHPR7jO_E/видео.html also check out the remaining track off Relayer, "To be Over" utterly beautiful, also "Yours is no disgrace", "Perpetual Change", "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" and "The Revealing Science of God". All the best
"Relayer" is such a unique and powerful album for YES. It would be hard for me NOT to choose this as a "desert island" album. "To Be Over" is like medicine. I don't know if I could do without it. Especially as it is the resolution to the whole album. My take on that. But...you should check out the best of their later work, from 2001: "Magnification". On "Relayer" Moraz was on keys, a major shift, and I think the results speak for themselves. But on "Magnification" they don't have the big keyboardist. There's some piano...but...instead they have an ORCHESTRA. Try the title track, "Magnification", or "Dreamtime", or to get that total good feeling, "In The Presence Of". Not many folk doing first listens of this album. But it is sooo good. 32 years after their first album. Blessings.
I don't know about the rest of the band, but Jon, the lead singer, is a spiritual force, like yourself, which is why you resonate so well with him. And my wish is that he offers you a gig, or gets you a primo pass to one of his concerts. On a different note...one '70s night, a friend and I picked up a hitchhiker and gave him a ride to the next town, during which "To Be Over" was playing on my 8-track, and we were all mesmerized. Time stood still. Then we let him out miles away. Within a year or so, my friend would be the recipient of a bullet to the head from a biker gang. To be over. At such a young age, and innocent heart. I hope you enjoy the song. It is very meaningful. Others probably have similar stories. Similarly, I saw Yes perform Gates of Delirium, in NYC, two nights before 9/11. Their baraka and spirit prepared our hearts for the nightmare to come. May you only ever know peace. Enjoy the album with us.
Yes's 'Relayer' album marked the last time they could get away with the long-form songs they had specialized in up to that point. The late 1970s saw a move towards brevity that they struggled to embrace, but was nevertheless coming. So their 1975 concert beyond the home of Queens Park Rangers (not far from where my parents grew up) was the last hurrah of a certain sound. Swiss keyboardist Patrick Moraz (who Chris Squire later joked played well 'in time') would subsequently join Prog Rock pioneers The Moody Blues. But it's here that he fits best.
You might enjoy Brand X with Phil Collins drumming. Try Unorthodox Behaviour. ... For some bang up to date prog, from Southampton, UK, try A Formal Horse's album Here Comes a Man From the Council with a Flamethrower! 👍

You've just heard the most "Yes" song Yes ever did. I'm not going to call it their finest, although it's a top 10, and you've barely scratched the surface of their discography so you have a long way to go, but you're never going to be as completely & totally shocked by a song of theirs as you will by this. Pope I saw you did a live video version of of Lucky Man which was very good. I know you already reacted to South Side of the Sky, the studio version, but you might want to give the 2004 live version from the DVD, Songs from Tsongas a try. It was Yes's 35th Anniversary Tour, the last time the 5 guys of "classic" Yes toured together. It's a really great watch and listen. Great audio, including vocal harmonies, and lots of good crowd shots. A jamming good time! ruclips.net/video/EyVKhN8OElA/видео.html Anyway keep it going, Bro, I really enjoy watching your videos, you hear with the heart as well as the head... Vic
To me , these Reaction Videos act as a double edge sword . At one moment, it is great that younger folks are being introduced to great music , but at the same time , it really angers me to witness the deevolution of music . It is so repugnant that the only people making money in the music industry, these days, are no talent clowns who rely on sampled music , fake instrumentation , and Autotune .
Yes is music for the soul
Chasing the sound around…greatness.

My Man, glad to see a younger generation appreciating the wonderful sounds of YES !!

Oh side thought: how about Gilmour, Wright, and Bowie doing the first-ever Floyd song “Arnold Layne” and Comfortably Numb? Backstage footage too!
Kind of crazy that they used to play this live and didn't slow it down. Alan White must have been exhausted. 🙂
YES getting into jazz fusion, which was popular at the time as Miles' alumni formed their own bands and explored the Universe (e.g. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Weather Report).
Patrick added a Chick Corea mini moog. Great jazz sound. The program for that tour lists some of their influences and Mahavishnu is listed
