    Great video ! My husband replaced the motor a few weeks ago. It was rain and it started with the noise . I thought it was the blade, we had to replace it.

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I believe I have the exact same unit. My motor died last year and I had a tech replace the motor. He used a "universal" motor. Initially, it sounded normal, but weeks later when it rained, I had the exact same sound. Just like yours, it only happens when it rains. I suspect he bent one of the blades slightly when he replaced the motor. Your video gives me some relief knowing it's not something more nefarious. This is an excellent video demonstrating the sound. Thanks again!

    The problem was solved by replacing the fan blade. It was caused by one of the blades being a bit porous, causing it to soak up water and throw the fan out of balance until the blade dried out. It was not the impact of the water on the blade. Once the blade was wet, the blade would vibrate, even after the fan cycled off and back on. A new blade, Nordyne part #667303, was quite cheap, around $30 as I recall.

    I had a similar problem with my condenser fan except it would make noise only when the temperature dropped. In the evening it would make noise once the sun started to go down - about 40% of the time when started. Cycling the power would fix it for a few starts. The hub portion of the 18" 3-blade fan on my Keep-Rite KAC030 was slightly loose. The press-fit between the two pieces allowed a tiny bit of movement that allowed the blade to into resonance. A replacement blade cost me $27 plus tax.

    Mine is driving me crazy... tech guy said there was nothing wrong...thanks to this video I have an idea of what it is..

    @phbartoli No, but it is a very simple job. The fan is held in place with a set screw. Just make sure you put the replacement fan at the same location on the shaft.

    so it was just a defactive blade im glad you got a three blade set adds more cooling to the condenser

    @mralph69 do you remeber where you bought your replacement blade? i have a ducane, but i would think there should be a generic blade that will do the trick....ducane OEM blades are running about 125...would love to get something for half that.

    I replaced a squealing, overheated and very rusty Evcon fan motor with a Century with same specs. To my amazement, the brand new replacement makes a noise like it has bad bearings. Have any of you replaced a motor with a new one only to find that it still squeaks? Mine sounds like metal on metal when I move it at rest with my finger.... I guess bad motors come off the line sometimes but I thought I'd ask here if anyone else was in the same boat....

    The balance of the blades may get incorrect as water gets on it. Causing it to vibrate.

  • @AVontheTube
    @AVontheTube  15 лет назад

    It was not a loose blade. The blade assembly had no loose parts or fasteners. The blade was tightly secured to the rod. It was an imbalance problem caused by water adhering to one blade more than the other, possibly due to a difference in the blade surfaces.

    I just put in a new motor in mine and in about 10 min the unit started to shake. Everything is tight so I suspect the fan blades may be out of shape from being run on a bad motor with play in the bearings. The blade is about 20 plus years old and this is the 2nd motor on the unit.

    No, it is a regular site-built home. These Miller units were commonly used for site-built homes.

    I have a similar problem with an American standard. The noise seems to be coming from the vibration of the connection rod.
    Motor was replaced 8 months ago

    silly Q but if u had a bad neighbor & they water hosed your outdoor fan is it possible that it would damage or is the outdoor unit designed to withstand water? Its an Akai reverse cycle spilt air conditioner. When I turn to heat the outdoor fan works but theirs no air coming from indoor unit and when i switch to cool air then the outdoor fan stops working but the indoor fan works. I hear a click like your thermostat click maybe also the electricity hum turns on & off compressor? or capacitor?

    the water puts more wight on the blades and can make noise if it not screw on the spin rod right

    My family now has a Trane XR16 air conditioner that also uses a 2-blade fan and generic (factory supplied) motor, and it makes a loud buzzing sound, yet it's only a year old. Is it possible to replace the motor with a name brand motor (such as a GE-Genteq with matching energy and capacitor requirements and black/brown/purple Trane wiring)? And can something as big as a 2.5 ton XR16 be replaced with a 3-blade (or perhaps 4-blade) with matching diameter, pitch, and motor specifications?

    hi there, this video was really helpful. We have a LG A/C using for cool air. It was working fine till recent, after the mechanic guy serviced & cleaned it , since then gives a "dig dig dig dig " noise for the first 15 mins and thereafter noise is gone. We are in Middle East, as there is no rain here is there any other way which makes this noise. or is it something that mechanic guy forgot to do?

    My unit makes the same terrible noise! except when totally dry (or wet). did you figure out the problem? the mechanic who installed it has told me to eff off (i unfortunately already paid him for the install so he's not interested in helping me out... crooks! all of em!) please let me know what you did to fix the problem! thanks

    MY PROBLEM IS EXACTLY OPPOSITE . MINE MAKES THE SAME NOISE, BUT MINE IS WHEN IT IS DRY. AFTER VIEWING YOUR VIDEO I SPRAYED THE WHOLE THING DOWN WITH WATER , INCLUDING THE COILS. RUNNING LOTS QUIETER. IS THAT FAN BLADE A STANDARD REPLACEMENT. I HAVE A BRYANT, BUT THE MOTOR IS GE.

  • @AVontheTube

    I suspect that is why Miller changed the replacement blade to a 3-wing design.

  • @AVontheTube
    @AVontheTube  16 лет назад

    The problem turned out to be the fan blade. Nordyne had changed the replacement part from a 2-blade fan to a 3-blade fan. Not sure why the original part got noisy when wet, but speculate the slight weight of water on the blade surface made the blades go into resonance. I put a 3-blade fan in and the noise is gone.

  • @AVontheTube
    @AVontheTube  16 лет назад

    Did you also solve the problem with a new fan blade?

    Blade weights are gone, need to replace blade .Maybe check to see if can use blade with not so much pitch; be sure to match 3 blades and check amp draw when finished.

      Alejandro Palazuelos The diamater, pitch and weight has to be the same.

      So if I have a Trane XL1200 air conditioner with a 22" diameter, 30 degree pitch propeller with 3 blades, can a 4 blade propeller of the same diameter and pitch? Also, can I use a 20" diameter propeller to replace an existing 22" diameter propeller? And what about those "ninja-blade" propellers with the pointed curve design that's used on newer AC fixtures? Can they be used on older ones as replacements?

    • @aircooledtx
      @aircooledtx 7 лет назад

      No pitch does not have to be same as long as does not increase amp draw.

    I replaced the fan motor on my Goodman, and experienced this kind of noise. Then, I replaced the fan with a generic Dayton fan. I cannot run the unit because of the fan balance. Totally frustrating...

    the problem is water on the fan blades is throwing it off balance, causing it to get noisy

  • @VideyoJunkei
