The students work so hard managing internship, academics, society activities, etc etc. only an iit alumni or current student can truly relate to the pressure felt by each and every student. This is not the student's fault. This is the culture and system that we have developed for the brightest students to experience in their college life. The society has normalised working extremely hard, & these students have adapted to it, that's all.

You are exactly the kind ignoramus that this perverted system produces. Students have not adapted to it - they are killing themselves; and you are among the fools who think it's alright for a society to have young kids who cannot handle pressure to die by suicide. And, mostly, those who pass are low-grade minds incapable of critical analysis or invention. Their wet dream is to raise funds for a startup, and hide accounts to go public, and then exit with an IPO. That is to simply become ponzi scheme operators boasting of IIT BTech.
Humble, honest & inspiring person. This is what I also tell my students. The academic performance of a person at one point in his/her education need not define that person's lifelong academic/professional ability (like deciding a person's lifelong caste status by birth). Unlike the caste system, there is no "Ascribed Status" in academic life. Everybody has the potential to enhance their intellectual ability at any age/stage in their life.

One of the greatest inventions in the previous century and this century is the aircraft. The Wright brothers were not aeronautical engineers. They succeeded in controlling the aircraft absolutely. I don't think that they were aware of integral and differential calculus, differential equations. Now, what are our IITians contributions to heavy engineering? (In India) It is a doubt, my knowledge in this regard is very little. Recently I happened to see a small boy reading a book called "inventions and discoveries", out of academic interest I went through the book. I could not find any of our IITians name in that book. I read about a German Engineer who invented Diesel engine, committed suicide for not getting wide industrial acceptance for his invention then. To put it in a nut shell why torture our poor students. Academic brilliance has nothing to do with intelligence. To answer one or two questions from a particular topic a child has to do 20,000 or even more problems. Let me cut a joke - if money is the aim then it is better to follow Adani or Ambani. Both of them are not Engineers, I think. I strongly believe that a lot of Engineers are working for them.
Mukesh Ambani is a chemical engineer from the University of Mumbai, Institute of Chemical Technology.

But while prepping for JEE it hit me like a truck and made me realise the value of discipline and consistency

No, because your chances of being sundar pichai are literally one in a billion. An avg joe is not going to be him unless of course, they have some form of privilege already
Problem is it is difficult to realy asses the capability of a candidate for a job opening so employers resort to proxies such as where someone graduated and so on. So now getting into a good college is the only way

Talking of confidentiality...can you first make salaries of campus placements confidential. Thats the real culprit that causes discrimination. If no one knows how much CSC student makes or a Chemical Engg. makes, it will cool down discrimination.
LOL, eveyone knows how much a CS Engineer make
What's the point of it? Even if IITs make it confidential, Computer jobs paying more than any other jobs is a known fact. So What's ur point?

The sad thing is that even as a celebrated IIT,Madras Director and CSE Professor, he disclosed his non-BTech IIT background though he did not have to, to be an inspiration to others.
But instead of appreciating his Nobel intent, the half-cup empty Indian mentality of many (not all) is showing here, criticizing him for being TamBrahm.
Just like Mahatma Gandhi was lambasted by Muslims that he fought for and Kamal Hasan being lambasted by the very people that he is supporting against his own birth community.

Can i ask a doubt? Why can’t government of india build more iit institutions? I agree. I feel suffocated in this environment but I get why my parents tried to do what they did even if I don't agree with the methods. Wanting a secure future for their child is not a crime considering no one else cares what happens to a random person in India.
Discrimination on basis of rank is obvious... Remove caste based seats for those who are well to do, then there won't be that... Someone with a st card but annual high income yet a 20k rank more than a general with middle class income is obviously gonna feel more dominant
