i asked to uber like few months ago about if i can driver for uber black, and uber said me yes, when i finished all my permits like tcp number, airport permit, they activate my account, but after one week uber block my account, let me know that uber no are acepting uberblack at the moment, i spend a lot money to get my permits, can u told what i can do in this case?
A little frustrated.... I have a Uber Select car, and accept both Select and UberX rides. But When rates are surging, some people chose the Select ride because it's cheaper than the UberX rate. Why don't all ride types surge with surge rates, at the same time? Giving a select ride, during surge times, seems silly, seeing that I get paid less than an UberX ride. What is the % threshold on a surge rate, where I should turn off Select, and accept only UberX rides?
Since no one answered your question I'll give it a stab (although the owner of this channel apparently "liked" it, oddly enough). It probably has to do with demand. The demand can be different among the different vehicles that qualify for the different classification within the same area. Eg., UberXL might be surging in area A because lots of people are traveling in groups and are all requesting XL rides, while there aren't a lot of people requesting X in that area, so the surge pricing for XL goes up and for X it does not go up. That's just my guess. In your example, you should choose to only accept UberX and not Select during that surge. I don't use the app so I don't know how, but I'm sure you can toggle between your ride preferences.
What is a CI? Uber X, XL, and Select drivers don't need anything except a drivers license and to pass a Uber background check by submitting their social security number. Black Car and SUV drivers have to get finger printed and FBI background checked for their Chauffeur license but that's not required for anything other than Black Car And SUV here in Atl. Thanks for your help.
+steve koelliker Commercial insurance which is required for black/suv. You're right, you don't need anything special for X, XL and Select :) This article may be useful too: therideshareguy.com/the-definitive-guide-to-uberplus-and-uberselect/
My absolute favorite is how RANDOMLY even though I ONLY have Uber Select toggled on....They'll flip UberX back on after a day or 2. Btw I have yet to get an actual Uber Select ping in the last week since I set it up. Meanwhile, I get Lyft Lux requests at a steady rate because they suggest passengers choose it when no regular Lyft's are available and they'll give passengers that had an issue like a cancel a free lux upgrade.
Oh...and apparently Uber is getting rid of Uber Select, Uber Premium, Uber Premium SUV, Lux and Lux SUV as of 7/31/20 because "too few people are choosing" those options. Instead of realizing their app design deters people from seeing the choices. 🙄
So Uber can create two different accounts for you for the same car? UberX+XL on one account and just UberXL on another? I don't think it's available in Austin
Hi, I’m trying to be Uber select. I work for Uber 3 days as Uber x. Gas price is killing me. I drive 2021 VW Atlas SEL premium R-line. Fully loaded, 4 passengers. Somebody can help me, please. I have no idea how to switch
+The Rideshare Guy Harry, Ohhhh I plan on it, not only change their policy, but also get a different or preferably a NEW support person, ive had mixed messages from support several times in the past. LOL
Any idea why in Seattle at least... sometimes I cannot even accept Select requests because the box is gone. It comes and goes with no explanation... Not sure why?
I just chatted with uber customer support, they told me that i can't set up my account to drive just for Uberxl. i can get uberx/xl together even thought i live in Corona, Ca. Also i asked if that option was available in LA, they said no. It's been like that since uber started in CA
Cool trick. As you probably know, Lyft does something similar with allowing for opting-out of Line. Makes me wonder if Uber/Lyft is just being nice, but secretly seething that they have to create a special feature in their app for giving drivers a choice. "why, I oughta ..." My general feeling (in life) is, accept everything you are given, and don't rock the boat. Wouldn't it feel awful, if you heard the special class of picky drivers, were secretly being cut out of something? Of course, you could say that, but I couldn't possibly comment... PS: Can you link the list of Uber cars that qualify for each level? When I search online, I rarely get a simple answer. I am still in the market for a new car, and having a list of special kinds, might sway me a certain direction.
Aaron Pewtherer Yea I know you can opt out of lyft line but don't really see why you would. You can't opt out of uberpool requests and same goes there. I have a spreadsheet in this article with links to all the local markets which will give you an idea of what vehicles qualify.. therideshareguy.com/top-6-ways-to-contact-uber-when-you-need-help/ also stay tuned for our article tmw about uberplus :)
The Rideshare Guy Where is the Toyota Rav4? Does hybrid matter? What is a "crossover SUV" Would be nice if there was a comprehensive list of all makes/models, instead of the vague, "2011+, black interior, seats 4 comfortably..." Then, you find out, not that kind of car, the other kind. I guess it's best to email their Support and ask specifically.
Hello Harry, Still waiting for the background check it's only been 2 working days. At the Irvine inspection site, the lady said she would put my vehicle as XL (it's a Flex). Should I stay with that? Thank you. GDSmith
My market only has UberX no XL, select, black etc. I am shopping for a vehicle upgrade and am considering going to a mini van that would qualify for XL. How would I find out if XL would be added to my market before I make this investment or does it automatically become an option once someone has a qualifying vehicle?
It sounds like your market doesn't offer XL yet, but I would Google "your city + UberXL" and one of the first options that should come up is the services Uber offers in your city (like X, XL, etc.)
You'll want to check the year requirements for your city, but as long as it's fairly new, you should be ok to drive for UberX. If you want to drive for UberBlack, check your city's requirements because a lot of cities are not accepting new UberBlack drivers.
wait so I have a scenario. can a rider see that there is no uberx in the area then switch to XL? like if I make my profile just XL can they take me by default cause the majority of my rides are x.
Do you know which markets will allow Select only? Is there a list online I could read somewhere? I'm considering moving out of Dallas, because I bought this brand new, fully-loaded 2016 Chrysler 300c back in December and I was expecting to be able to pay for it, and Uber insists on not giving me my Select only option so the UberX rides are just not cutting it.
+Nick Stockwell Dang that sucks. Unfortunately, there's no list that I know of. But you can always e-mail support@uber.com and ask them about this option if you're considering a particular city.
Hello Rideshare Guy. I am totally new. I'm in Background but I will need to purchase a vehicle. Nothing new but something current and very reliable; perferably 2013 and up; I'm actually open. The good thing is I was looking to purchase a vehicle anywhere due to my current vehicle is 2002. I haven't had a car note in 15+ years. Do you recommend the Leasing Program Uber is offering. In the past leased were not recommended and your stuck in the lease due to the miles and $$$ to get out. I'm thinking I should just purchase vehicle on my own but actually putting miles on my vehicle and maintenance upkeep makes me think the Leasing (3yrs) would be a better option; especially considering the lifespan of Uber Drivers.S.O.S.
+Tonya Lett Honestly, the new uber lease program is pretty good. Drivers are reporting that they are getting used cars (2013 ish) for $120/week including all maintenance with flexible exit if you want to get rid of the lease. Hey, I started driveing Uber Monday and my office let me know that I qualify for XL, 07 Dodge Grand Caravan, the price difference from X is a really big difference when I do accept XL rides. But I offten find myself driveing for 20-30 mins on XL and not getting any rides so I flip to X for a few quick rides. It's less moeny, of course. Any tips on how I can get more XL rides? I'm in a huge market, Chicago
That's the big problem with XL/Select, more lucrative but harder to find rides. I've found a lot of XL pax to be headed for the airport so maybe you can hang out in areas (hotels/etc) and drive times (early am) where people are headed to the airport.
I tried this for the first time last night (Friday night) in San Diego, which is a great market, but I made the worst earnings of any night yet driving uber, I only made $50 in 3.5 hrs, it was really frustrating. However, even when I switched back to accept uberx requests I was still waiting 20-30 minutes for fares even in the best areas of the city, WTH was going on last night? Is it typical to have to wait 30-40 min for fares in uberSelect Only mode?
That is pretty low, maybe it was just a slow night in general though if X was also slow. Usually Select is pretty good on weekends, I'd hang out and try to get people on their way to nice dinners/etc and then on their way home from the restaurant areas (downtown, hillcrest/north park, etc)
Harry based on my experience, when I log in XL and there is surge I still don't get enough request and sometimes after waiting for so long surge disappear but still no rider requests. Secondly surge showing under xl when you online, passenger app shows same surge zone for uber x as well. So I am feeling there is same surge but apparently uber x is busy and xl do not get enough requests...what is your brief thoughts on it? Thx
Muhammad Awais I would log on to both if X is surging since like you say request volume is always higher. With XL, there's always going to be less demand..
Thanks for posting these videos it's very helpful in understanding the Ins and outs of ride sharing. I an trying to understand this x/xl mode and I am thinking of registering an xl vehicle. So let's say I'm driving around in xl mode would I still be able to receive uber x requests?
Yes, you can still receive UberX requests - although bear in mind that your profit margin will be significantly slimmer on those rides due to higher gas/maintenance costs for your XL vehicle
So the support@uber.com doesn't work any more, and I've spent 2 weeks now trying to get my account to be UberSelect only....and am just getting robotic emails sent back. Very frustrating. Who can help?????
Do you guys know how to set up the app to only get requests within the city? In other words sometimes i dont want trips to take me out too far! Thanks!

+esmay p Excellent choice, car has great rep for safety & all your pax will know that. In terms of comfort, I did a comparison earlier this year against a BMW328 (wasn't even real leather) and a Mercedes 300 (again leather was questionable) and I actully drove the 300. Hands down the Volvo was the most comfortable which is of extreme importance when it comes to Driver fatgue ( spending a shift driving for 8 hours plus will reap unforseen benefits). The response and handleing of the 300 was disappointing, Volvo is better in both catagories. I'driven Volvo off & on for 35 yrs, many of them past the 240K+ mark. Do not get service done at the dealer, look for a small operation where you get to know the owner and you can trust ( which will only come over time) The 7 seater is what you want for Uber, black is the first option if available as a "just in case" Uber makes changes. Many cities will offer a Select/XL, XL/UberX/Pool and a all in option. Trip to the drivers centre is definitly called for. Good luck in You working less hours for more $$.
I was a Volvo dealer for 20 years and I can tell you that cars made today are almost all very safe! Volvo's will eat you up with service I recommend anything but a Volvo.
Come on, u serious. We're not talkin about the tractors here. What is an Audi, Bmw, Mercedes, etc. going to cost in service. U need to live in today not 20 years ago.
I want to know how or if I could switch it after I pick up people . Because I had a Van and I get a uber x call. Then I go to pick them up they see I have a van then tell friends to hop in. Fill my van all the way up even sometime sitting on the floor. And I'm just getting paid for a x ride. Is there something we can do to make this right?
Typically yes. Sometimes if you ask, you can get Uber to set you up a separate profile with only certain types of requests, but this is extremely YMMV. You are, of course, free to ignore Pool requests as you can't be deactivated for low acceptance rate anymore, although you may still get a temporary "time out" if you reject many requests in a row.
If I decline all uberpool request, will this lower my star rating with Uber, I drove 100 miles taking students to and from only to make 57.00 I am tired pool..
I contacted Uber today and requester the ablity to accept XL only sometimes They said I could not do it in the Phliadelphia market is that true? what should my next step be
Hi !!! Please Help !!! ... I just watched your video ... I've watched about a dozen " how to " videos to date ... I just began driving for UberX ... in fact, I have taken 1 trip as of this moment !!! ... I am still unbelievably confused about a number of things ... I have a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4matic AMG that is fully loaded ... I registered as an UberX driver and then remembered that there were other categories ... I researched the categories and found out that I could actually be an UberSelect driver because it is a 5 passenger luxury car ... I have had this confirmed by Uber via email ... yet I still don't understand how my car would show up on the screen of a potential customer as both an "X car"and a "Select car" ... right now I assume I only show up as an "X car" on the screen of a customer... if they want a "Select car" and I'm the only or the closest "Select car" they still don't know that the way I see it ... how do I get my car to exist on the Uber app screen as in essence two cars ... one car if they push the UberX button and one car if they push the UberSelect button ... my first and only rider was very happy ... they got a Mercedes for the price of a Chevy/Ford/Hyundai/Kia ... you see my point ... HELP !!! THANKS !!! David
Have anyone been sucessful to change their profile to Uber XL only in the Kansas City market? I haven't been able to find anyone to hep me with this. Thanks
Hi. I've been a chauffeur in Atlanta for 15 yrs and have been driving for Uber SUV and Black car as well as taking my own clients off of the Uber app for about 3 yrs now. I have a GA chauffeur license and $1 million in commercial insurance as well as LM(limo license plates) which are all required in Atl to be an independent limo driver and to drive for Uber SUV or BlackCar. My question is what are the black car requirements to be an independent limo driver in LA and surrounding areas where I could drive for Black Car and Select but also be legit to be an affiliate of a limo company and be able to take their overflow work. Also can you work for Uber in more than one zone in CA ex LA, Orange County, Inland Empire, etc. Thanks. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I'm probably moving back to the High Desert after 16 years away. Thanks.
+steve koelliker Hey Steve, yes you can work in any city in CA as an Uber driver :) I believe all you need is the license, CI and plates - so very similar as ATL. Black car is closed to new applicants though so you'd have to go through a fleet owner but still able to do private clients.. I interviewed a black car driver a few months ago: therideshareguy.com/rsg010-what-can-we-learn-from-the-black-car-guy/

@amro G Yes that is correct. It may not be available in Austin though, you can check by sending a quick e-mail to your local uber partner support.

i spend a lot money to get my permits,
can u told what i can do in this case?
I had to go by the Greenlight office because email support refused to make my profiles XL only / Select only.
Hey Harry! FYI. Uber lowered the minimum vehicle age in the Houston market to cars 2002 or newer. I drive XL and Select and stay pretty busy at night.
Or you could go to your settings a set it up any way you want.
Do you know what car would make the most like XL select at the same time ?

U need to live in today not 20 years ago.
if you get a high end make sure they have free maintenence (many offer this) for the duration of the warranty period...then you know your costs
I have Uber XL and I have pool and hour I like to use Uber Xl ole
I want to know how or if I could switch it after I pick up people . Because I had a Van and I get a uber x call. Then I go to pick them up they see I have a van then tell friends to hop in. Fill my van all the way up even sometime sitting on the floor. And I'm just getting paid for a x ride. Is there something we can do to make this right?
Yes you can change it to an XL fare by selecting the help option after the ride.
Thank you, so much!!!
when you are login to Plus/select/xl and X, would the uberpool requests come in as well?
Typically yes. Sometimes if you ask, you can get Uber to set you up a separate profile with only certain types of requests, but this is extremely YMMV. You are, of course, free to ignore Pool requests as you can't be deactivated for low acceptance rate anymore, although you may still get a temporary "time out" if you reject many requests in a row.
If I decline all uberpool request, will this lower my star rating with Uber, I drove 100 miles taking students to and from only to make 57.00 I am tired pool..
Nope but you may get put in time out if you ignore 3 in a row: therideshareguy.com/how-to-take-advantage-of-ubers-new-acceptance-rate-policy/
how do you log in on both (make a video)
Yea not a bad idea - you just log on though to both :)
so to pick xl only for drivers is it the license plate with the == signs or the other?
depends on how they set it up but yes usually it's the account with the == or ** etc
Can I change the type myself or Uber has to do it? I think they have me as. UberX but I should be or want to be Uber Plus/Select
I contacted Uber today and requester the ablity to accept XL only sometimes
They said I could not do it in the Phliadelphia market
is that true?
what should my next step be
Some cities don't allow you to set up a separate profile but I'd confirm with other XL drivers if they have the option.
HELP !!! THANKS !!! David

I have a brand new 2018 camry se ... can it go to uber select
I interviewed a black car driver a few months ago: therideshareguy.com/rsg010-what-can-we-learn-from-the-black-car-guy/
making career out of uber....hmmm I'd like to see how many re-posesed luxury vehicles will be within 3 years! lol
