Outstanding recent Air Day supporter the French Navy is again participating in what could be its only UK airshow appearance of the year. Its contribution comprises a thunderous role demonstration involving a pair of Dassault Rafale Ms
Among the world's most agile multirole fighters, the Rafales are sure to add some real punch to Air Day's five hour flying display. They'll be supplied by 11 Flottille, one of the two French Navy squadrons operating the type, while the Falcon 10MER will be provided by Escadrille 57S.

Being a German, it is really hard for me to admit: the French got it right. After endless fruitless discussions about a carrier-based Eurofighter variant, they bailed out of the program and did their own thing. And without all the political hassle that came with the German green party and multinational bickering between Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain, they did it right. Of course, they already had lots of delta wing knowledge after designing and operating Mirage III/IV/2k.
Compared to the Typhoon, the Rafale might be a tad slower on climb, has less ceiling and might lose a bit more power under higher alphas due to some design compromises necessary for safer carrier operations (like the canard placement and the air intake design), but it more than makes up for it with its other qualities. It is the far superior warplane IMO.
It's a very fine aircraft, but it's high cost has cost it several potential orders. Which is a pity because it's building a decent combat service record.

assassinez100 these days, selling weapon platforms is not necessarily about cost, quality or effectiveness. It's about lobbyism, bribery, blackmail and international relations.
The bottom line is it's a poor seller at best. As I originally said it's a shame because it's a decent bird.

It seems that the Marine Rafale has a little bit more thrust than the land based version. The Rafale M has more structural weight, a heavier nose gear at least. But as I see, this version is not suffering by this. However, the secret of the Rafale family is the aerodynamic, not the raw thrust. According to an interview with the chief designer of the Rafale, the key element is the wing and the air channel between the leading edge of the main wing and the canard. The FbW is able to control not just the movement and the AoA limit, but the whole drag ratio of the airframe in every second of the flight. Quite difficult, but the result is an excelent acceleration during the low g flight section between two high g turn or climb. Like the Gripen. By this capability, the Rafale is able to operate the little bit weaker engines same as the more raw poweful Typhoon. Just you need a good pilot who always take care on the low g acceleration between two high g maneuver. You can see here.

I had an great privilege to see these landing at Nas Oceana here in Virginia Beach VA United States, never in my mind I would see these in my life, but then I see these delta wing canard aircraft, I was really surprised to see these at one of our bases. It was so cool. I'll never forget
All Right allright ... The typhoon can go a bit faster, a bit higher and can.... wait a second ?!that is it ! The rafale is a full omnirole jet fighter , can carry more than the typhoon and can carry it faster than the typhoon , the rafale is combat tested and bullet proof , it can land and take off from proper aircraft carrier ( CATOBAR ) and cherry on the cake it look A.B.S.O.L.U.T.L.Y sexy and beautifull... nothing to say about that .... and the typhoon doesnt....

@@cusoonmyfriend3738 c'est guidé par des impératifs opérationnelles... quand ta survis dépends de la communication entre plusieurs armees, il devient évident de privilégier une langue pour que se soit un réflexe. Ça combiné au fait qu'il soit franco-canadien....

very nice display but can anyone tell me what happened to the old school hi speed passes...??? i mean ~1100kms, when you hear the aircraft only when it passes you and it looks crazy fast. is this some crap EU reagulation that they not allowed to do that anymore?
