Why do we want to slow down the absorption of carbs when we have D1M: Adding protein and fat to the meal ensures it’s satisfying and slows down the digestion of the carbohydrates.
Hey Can’t remember exactly what I said on this video as it was some time ago Quite a lot of our patients have problems with spikes between meals because the food they eat is too quickly released for the insulin. So you either have to inject a lot earlier than the food which isn’t always the most practical, accept the spike or change the type of food and/or match it with protein and fat as you say. This helps level out spikes If it’s too slow releasing mind it can cause spikes later but that’s more for things like pizzas and curry’s which wouldn’t be in keeping with healthy eating advice if that’s too often But if there’s no problem on your glucose levels post meal, then no need to try fix it by making changes and some people might be fine even with quicker releasing carbs 👍
