Pereira hunting down izzy from kickboxing to MMA to make sure he stays losing by knocking him out in the last round has to be one of the best stories in combat sports history
Imagine losing 3x to the same guy and having all of them be close. First fight was a bad decision, second fight Israel was winning up until he got caught and third fight was more of the same. Must be heartbreaking for Adesanya but that's how Pereira is. You can make exactly 0 mistakes against Po Atan. Dude has otherworldly power
I said Alex looked like the boss from a fighting game, like Tekken, but I didn’t know he was going to fight like one too. You spend the whole fight chipping away at his life being as perfect as you can and then he hits you once and you lose your whole life bar.
@@youtubeshortsgaming9652 lmao i was literally going to say it felt like a souls game, melania with that sword flurry move in the 5th that izzy coudnt evade hahaha
This fight was something else. I've never seen Israel look so small. Pereira looked like a video game final boss that you are supposed to lose to. Even though I'm emotionally invested in Israel's career I feel like these too are something special and a real treat for us. I hope to see the rematch in half a year. It is too exciting for me to see it sooner.
I think Alex is too big for 185 he should be fighting at 205 he looked overly huge and I believe the commentators stated his last fight against Strickland Alex was 215 on fight night. that's insane. You could see how he was pushing Izzy around in the clinch and when Izzy tried those trips
@@user-cx9gq2ud6t that's not entirely true he has fought guys that were in the realm of being same size or bigger. I mean Kevin G was big different attributes like less height but more weight. Paulo Costa. Romero. Alex was like yan vs izzy though and everyone wants to make that Izzy's excuse but remember izzy said in the leadup to his fight vs yan... he said he wasn't putting on weight and would come into the fight like a middleweight because that's where he feels comfortable and wouldn't sacrifice the hours of training he has at that weight just to put on some more weight to not be bullied on the ground. He lost the fight for not leaving his comfort zone. He was expected to lose that fight because of that choice. But izzy thought it was the right choice. I think in this fight that whole message of not leaving his comfort zone is a very real component of Izzy's career. He got comfortable with decision wins. He got comfortable blaming decision wins on opponents not forcing him to stop them. He got comfortable as the champ. He came into the fight looking like he was in his peak doing extremely well but what happened? Blame it on the weight advantage but izzy chose this and he claimed it was not a disadvantage for him to be weighing how he usually weighs against a bigger opponent. Blame it on izzy not going for the win? Ya I think that's it. He got comfortable going to decisions and he got caught a couple mins before getting another decision win. He got comfortable going to decisions so much that he might've even lost the touch of getting a finish. If there's risk involved he might not pursue a finish. If there's the thought that he wins the decision he gets passive. When a guy came along that was telling him that he would not get to a decision and izzy was gonna have to finish him if he wanted the win guess what happened.
@@thecasual4880 Lol what? Serra landed a lucky punch and got smoked in the rematch. Poatan beat Izzy all 3 fights, twice by KO. You have no idea what you're talking about.
I think Izzy’s problem with Pereira is that his (Izzy’s) kickboxing is, even if slightly better, nullified; his height advantage nullified; both have equally bad grappling; with the difference between the two being the power in their hands. The result doesn’t mean that Pereira will beat everyone Izzy has beat, but it does mean Pereira is Izzy’s boogeyman!
Izzy never had a major kickboxing title and Alex was a Glory double champ ? The first glory double champ and middle weight LHW ? Alex is the more decorated striker
I think it was intentional. Watch Dan Hardy’s WarRoom. In his breakdown he shows how Pereira likes to move people into strikes. He throws a kick they move left into his left hand. Izzy might have been trying to avoid that by backing up and then using Pereira’s inexperience in the cage against him. Idk it’s a guess, it also could have been that you have this massive zombie walking towards you.
Thats becuase Izzy couldnt circle out the way as easy as he can vs much shorter guys that dont have Alex hook as a threat, and ofc if Alex runs into him he is not gonna stay still and accept to have crazy exchanges in close range so he has to back up
@@wesleyharmon8231 well Izzys style and plan is to strike and set up from a distance and also counterpunch, what he usually does is use his height advantage and circle out of the way, but with Alex having the same reach and hooks as a threat he couldnt just do that so easy, but then with Alex moving forward he is not gonna stay still and accept to trade punches in a shorter range either as he respects Alex power and chances in these exchanges so thats why he was more against the cage as usual. In the rematch if he doesnt want that he has to either circle out of the way before he backed up too much which aint easy and eventually you end up there too (the octagon is not that many steps big) or/and try to put some pressure himself but then if Alex doesnt back down and goes for wilder short range exchanges I dont think thats good for Izzy so I think he did good, it would be a better strategy to wrestle more in critical moments (and better) and that with how he did scoring more points I think he wins the rematch even though he can always get caught when Pereira goes for a all or nothing KO
The ref was absolutely saving Israel from a nasty knee to the face. Trust me if it wasn't stopped, Alex was gonna throw a nasty flying knee. Izzy was bent over looking down just moving his head. Trust me a huge knee was coming!
I was nervous for Izzy every time he backed up to the cage with his hands low. Pereira deserves a lot of credit for overcoming being rocked and exhausted at different points in the fight. Can’t wait to see part four.
I still don’t know why he kept backing up against the cage and letting pereira just throw at him half the fight….especially round 5 I feel like that should have been the last situation he’d put himself in
He needed to clinch more in round 5 it saved him when Alex was taking off most of round 4 to recover some energy then started throwing late, Izzy just completely stopped his momentum in the clinch and won the round
@@CMc_39 I think Izzy was trying to find holes but with a guy like pierera u need to be active. His counter striking was there but he wasn’t active enough.
@@jrh7741 exactly, Alex was clearly very cautious and hesitant, if he boxes to his full potential I see him easily sending Izzy to Hospital in few seconds. Even though Alex won the belt, I think 205 is his ideal division.
It was honestly a good stoppage by Goddard because after looking at the slow mo highlight, Izzy was getting CRACKED with those punches. Izzy should buy Goddard lunch tomorrow for stopping the fight when he did because he was about 2 or 3 punches away from getting sent to the shadow realm for a second time by the same guy. He may be a kickboxer but Pereira's hands are not a joke. Once he connects, those hands are lethal. Especially that left hook.
When you watch the slow mo you realize almost all those punches were landing accurately. I see people saying all of them were missing and Izzy was dodging lol.
Perfectly said. Should thank Goddard that he allows him to fight another day. People wanted 2-3 more of Alex’s shots when he’s already visibly shook. Dana and Izzy’s coaches said good stoppage, no problem with it.
Izzy's walkout was very telling, he was all business and you could see the pressure mounting because of the stakes. But to his credit, he didn't fight like he was gun shy. It's very rare to see Izzy get backed up that way because he's such a master of range but Pereira is just as tall and has a similar reach.
Yeah the 2 opponents that he didn’t have a reach advantage over he lost to, like Romero said this is what happens when Israel actually fights, good backfoot fighter, weak front foot offensive game. Mcgregors got better boxing than adesanya
Izzy said in the post fight press conference that Pereira damaged the nerves in his calf with the kick in the 4th (?) round when Izzy did that roll backwards. I think that's why he was backing up the 4th and 5th round.
@@AlligatorTrader96 this isn't correct. He was referencing the 5th round checked kick that made izzy roll backwards and that's when periera mauled him.
@@Apart-of-the-culture78 he fumbled because it hurt him as soon as he stood on it , he absorbed the shock of it by rolling backwards bc he knew something felt off.
That was 100% a good stoppage, Izzy said himself after talking with coaches when speaking to Megan. Dana said he agreed with it. Massive respect to Alex fighting Izzy in his prime MMA career with multiple 5 round championship fights, Alex had 0. He just has his number man it is what it is, have to accept that sometimes. Respect to Izzy and his run as well.
Don't want to kick the guy while he's down but, just doesn't seem humbled at all and then fishes for sympathy saying his breast lump could be a medical issue we don't know about, man the UFC and athletic commission pay for the best doctors to inspect the fighters, how stupid does he think we are? All the same though, was the best Izzy fight in a while.
@@thesilvershota3091 I didn't say he had to? OP mentioned how well he handles losing. Generally this is equatable with "being humble in defeat". He can be whatever he likes to be, but how is this handling losing well? How is it inspiring? I was not at all saying he has to be humble. But it's not surprising with a life and upbringing like his, he was never brought up to be humble, I don't think he really know what that is.
Thankful for the stoppage. The next punch that was coming for Izzy's brain to be shaken in the fish bowl was a sledge hammer upper cut. Perfect stoppage in protecting Izzy's long term health.
Chael, somehow I knew after this long night of insanity in 281, I’d find comfort in your analysis being already uploaded and ready for me to listen to 😭
I just went back to re-watch Round 2 of the fight and I cannot for the life of me see how someone scores that Round for Izzy. Alex was more aggressive that round, landed the most damaging shots (including a head kick), defended Izzy's take down attempts while getting plenty of body shots in at the same time, and he capped off the round with the signature moment in taking Izzy down. Everyone always says, damage is the biggest factor in deciding a round. Well in the case of Round 2, Alex dished out way more damage than he took.
@@snowybooooy I don't think anyone thinks Periera is gonna have a long reign if any successful defenses, but its like that game stratego, the spy beats The General but loses to every other piece on the board, or card games where a 2 beats an Ace.
Na, Usman gave him the touch of death when he and Ngannou saw him backstage. Think about it, both got finished in the last round losing their titles. Francis needs to drop them like a hot potato to stay the HW champ lol.
I thought Izzy walking out with no theatrics and taking pereira down showcased a certain lack of confidence. You can play around with your walkout and you can stay on your feet with guys you know you'll beat on your feet, but Izzy didn't do those things. I think pereira occupied some significant head space deep down in izzy's mind, and pereira came out with a confidence that none of izzy's recent opponents have had. For an opponent to beat izzy they have to press forward and take risks, unlike romero and cannonier, and that takes confidence.
Izzy’s body language at the face-off too just seemed so uncomfortable. Seems when Izzy looked at him deep down they both knew he had an advantage with the 2 earlier wins
Hell of a fight. I know izzy almost had him at end of r1 but this fight gave me the same feel as Cruz vs Chito. You could feel Alex crowding Izzy and an explosion was waiting to happen just like Chito.
Izzy hit him with some good shit. Call me a fan boy but I still think Izzy is the better fighter of the two, but just lost two exchanges. None the less he lost
@@thegreatkhan3191 Izzy is the better technical fighter, but Periera is an animal just won't just stay down. He will get back up and try to take your chin. It's scary that his will wasn't broken and continued to walk Izzy down.
@@PK-sc2vn I feel like it's was Izzy's stalling that beat him. He went to that strategy of trying to do just enough to win. He's proven that he has the power to hurt Alex but he refused to put any heat on him. Alex kept walking him down and even when he was tired and missing Izzy would just paw and clinch instead of throwing any counter shots or trying to put together combinations. When they fight they again, Izzy needs to go in there with the intent to put Alex away.
Head Trainer Tony, speaking to Apollo Creed: "I saw you beat that man for fifteen rounds like I never saw no man get beat before-- AND THE MAN KEPT COMING AFTER YOU. We don't need that kind of man in our lives."
So, to be clear: the fact that Periera has had championship 5 round fights in kickboxing for whatever reason doesn’t carry over to MMA, but Askren being a world champion wrestler carries over into boxing
The only reason I would say he has a point is because in grappling you are more tense throughout your entire body. It’s a different of fatigue that takes longer to get conditioned to as opposed to striking disciplines.
It wasn't an early stoppage. Izzy was not intelligently or even consciously defending himself. He was unconscious on his feet, and his body was on auto pilot. The movement was just muscle memory. His brain was still sending signals to his muscles, but he was not conscious. Now Izzy doesn't realise this himself, but it is a fact non the less. Often people don't realise they were knocked out.
Chael, just to add more context to Alex’s cardio I can recall watching his Instagram story years ago and he was doing 10’k runs for fun so can see why cardio hasn’t been a issue.
At first, the fight was about speed vs power. In the end, the persistence of Pereira won the contest. He missed that left hook throughout the 1st four rounds. When he stalked Izzy in the 5th and landed that left hook flush, that marked a new middleweight era.
Nobody believed me. Now everyone is hiding 😶🌫️. I told everyone who to take. Everyone chose to listen to Sonnen and draft kings sponsors. Ugh makes me feel bad for being right. 🫤
In the first 4 rounds Izzy’s footwork was killer. Alex didn’t have an answer, but I was nervous for Izzy bc he spent a lot of time backing up to the fence, and I think that’s what cost him the fight. He got too comfortable moving straight back late in the fight. I’m not a fan of the stoppage, but, man, what a fight.
@Year Zero Izzy was scared 😨. Of Alex power. Alex was dead on his feet from rd2 to rd4. He couldn't throw a punch but just like usman vs Edward's izzy wanted a decision instead of finishing him
As a massive Izzy fan, Izzy fought a near perfect fight until he lost, and it wasn't enough. To his credit he almost dropped Periera in the first round. It was a fun fight. Periera was aggressive at the exact right moments and went for it. Conserved his power and energy well. He should move up to 205 and be double champ, although some of the bigger guys might use wrestling and jiu jitsu and take him into the deep end, but with his striking and power and size I think he's talented enough to be a double champ.
Definitely not. If a couple of hits from Alex was enough to call it off his chin would shatter from a punch from a 205+ fighter. As we saw with Jan, he just needs to continually show that without a doubt he’s the king of his current division then go risk that new legacy elsewhere
I've been knocking Izzy for his last few fights. I admit I was rooting against him here. But my God he was impressive last night. Peieira is fucking huge and every shot he throws sound like a gun just went off in the arena. And Izzy took it to him. He fought more aggressive last night than he has in a long time and I loved it. The Izzy that fought last night would put away Izzy from any of his last several fights.
His only reason for fighting aggressive is because alex had him backing up the whole 25 minutes 😭 izzys best weapon is how good he is on the backfoot when countering. Him clinching numerous times just proves he was feeling the power
@@Joeee0304 sure but counter punching is a legitimate style of fighting that can be either boring and lazy or active and exciting. The shots he was throwing against Alex were very impressive. It was his best and most exciting fight in awhile
@@robertfugate2232 then again you continuously keep giving him credit for a fight that he had no intention of pushing the pace. Did you watch the same fight as me? Adesanya looks like the better fighter but he just doesn’t have the fear management Pereira has. And pereira had the go big or go home attitude in that last round. With that power and that attitude is amazing for the stand up battle they kept going with. Imagine of Adesanya was as aggressive as Pereira when he needs to be.
The Last Head Hunter vs The Last Stylebender. By far this was the greatest ppv of all time. Kos, submissions and nothing short of wars in the main card wit& the prelims just being pure chaos stoppages. When alex won, I jumped around like Glover! I'm probably getting evicted today lol.
As soon as the fight ended i said to myself “Adesanya needs to pull a Chael P” he should have got on that mic and said “in what world can you be beating a guys ass for 23 minutes, the other guy beats me for two and they call him the champion?”
Sure there is. His 2 wins in kickboxing shouldn’t matter. Izzy was a dominant champion who was winning the fight until the TKO. That’s exactly when you have an immediate rematch
@@andycockrum1212 Izzy is a arrogant little cry baby. He has these insulting celebrations when he wins. Then he loses and won't talk to Rogan in the ring! Can't stand dudes like this
I think you’d have to consider that Iz is at the top of his powers in MMA at the moment ,whilst Alex still has a lot more MMA skills to improve and he’s done a 5 rounder now - do we really want to see a rematch straight away? Very risky for Iz if he loses again….
Yeah I think the immediate rematch case is kinda hard to make tbh- he's lost to this guy 3 times in a row. The problem is- who else does Izzy fight now?
Nobody else can touch and beat Adesanya like Pereira and I have no hate towards Pereira for that, some people just get the other guys number, but to say that a 4th loss to 1 person would jeopardize his whole legacy is F***ing STUPID! Don’t even say that. It’s not Going to change his legacy.
@@DeathByToothpaste Iz V Chimaev …Rob V Alex …winners fight for the belt…put them all to the test..and if Chimaev and Rob really want to be mates more than the belt holder then they can move onto different divisions…
Adesanya got bullied by a bigger opponent. That pretty much sums up the fight. The only problem with that is Adesanya is about as big as Middleweights should get. Romero and Costa are more built and that works because they have a height disadvantage. Adesanya sacrifices some of that power for his reach advantage. Pereira was BIGGER and TALLER than Adesanya and still Middleweight. I think that lends a great deal of validity to ONE's hydration testing and it would be interesting to see this fight again with both fighters truly being 185-pounders.
True but cutting a lot of weight has its disadvantages. Pereira wouldn't have been rocked at the end of the first is he was fully hydrated (brain wise) . He's taken much harder and better placed punishment than that.
He didn't bully Izzy though.. Izzy beat him up all fight until the 5th. He mopped Alex on the ground. Alex did what he needed to do and caught Izzy and won. Congrats to him, however he was getting his ass whopped.. lol
@@DrAdair1 bro, he didn’t do ANYTHING impressive on the ground 😂 Izzy’s ground game is pathetic, he just so happened to be fighting another guy with even less of a ground game.
A Blue Quaker Considering Izzy's own insane reach and height advantage at that middleweight though it was nice to nullify it for once at least at middleweight. Let's not forget that he lost to the two guys who mostly took away that advantage in Jan and Pereira. Add in Alex's crazy toughness and power and you have a serious problem for Adesanya. He has to be perfect and make no mistakes to win. Alex only needs one moment. That is the difference. Odds are against Izzy in any 5 round MMA fight with Alex.
You could just tell the entire fight that Izzy knew if he got caught up against the cage and Alex started catching him he was done. Alex has crazy power and looked like a light heavyweight in there. That being said I don’t see him defending well and once a good grappler comes in it’s game. Especially someone like Khamzat.
Lol, he was getting caught up against the cage the entire fight. Round 1, round 2, end of round 4, start of round 5. If anything, Israel seemed to be looking for it, since he wasn't trying to get away from it all that much.
Khamzat is a monster but he’ll be destroyed faster than Izzy lasted. And I like Khamzat more than Izzy. He can shoot and try to wrestle Alex, and it could work- good luck to Khamzat’s skull on the way in.
@@nova6377 İf İsrael can takedown Alex easily, what makes you think that Khamzat who is maybe the most elite wrestler in middleweight can not without getting KOed?
Izzy has this ability to make it look like he was winning, Izzy caught Alex and rocked him once, It looked like Izzy was winning the kicking exchange but it was actually Alex who was, Izzy even admitted it, and Alex actually hurt Izzy a few times with body shots, knees to the body, and shots to Izzy’s head when Izzy had Alex in a clinch and backed up again the cage, which caused Izzy to go for a take down, then of course the TKO, I don’t know about you guys but watch it again and see
Izzy did what he always does and it cost him perriera made him fight more than he has in last few fights but he still fought not to lose instead of to win he was up 3-1 in the 5th and tried to coast to a win tried to run and grab/clinch perriera any time he got close but perriera went for broke knowing he was down and eventually connected it was wonderful
Izzy was down 3-1. With Alex leading every stat minus control time going into the 5th.... I really don't understand where all of you have izzy up. He won round three and that was it.
I’m not an Izzy fan at all I’m happy he lost but I had Izzy winning the first because it was close and close rounds the judges normally give to the champion and he rocked Perriera at the end of the round the third because of all the wrestling and the fourth because perriera seemed to coast and try to recover and get some energy back after all the grappling from the third and perriera came out in the fifth knowing he needed a finish and found one
Fight #3 was a combination of fight #1 and #2, Izzy almost knocked out Alex and he needed saving by bell and Izzy won most of the rounds, Just to be knocked out in the end. Bad omen for Francis with 2 of 3 African Champs losing at the end of a dominant performance
The fact is even though Izzy lost his stock went up. A lot of his fans were turning on him from putting on lacklustre performances and this fight showed why we all got behind Izzy in the first place. Great fight and even better mma redemption story now.
I agree with what your saying 100%. Just from a casuals perspective his stock will rise and I have been on the Izzy hate train since the Romero fight but this was the first fight since getting the belt that i haven’t regretted buy his ppv and am actually looking forward to his next fight.
I knew Alex was gonna win by watching there second fight. He cuts the distance with that front kick and then you have a guy that hits way harder way too close. It's just math at that point he doesn't have to hit you as much as you do him to win. As a smaller dude I recognized that as my nightmare scenerio.
Anyone that said they knew Alex was gonna win ahead of time is a fuckin liar. He was 1 second from not making it out of round 1 and you're over here predicting the future and shit. Shut up.
This just shows man that no matter how much skill you have at the end of the day if you go in swinging to knock the person's head off his shoulders with overwhelming firepower, your more than likely gonna win. Right now the Heavyweight and middleweight divisions are dominated by head hunting powerhouses.
I think its funny people thought Pereira wouldnt b ready for this moment. He was double champ in kickboxing and came to ufc with 1 purpose. Pereira looked huge in there he stalked the entire fight. Alex Pereira is the izzy Terminator and it was 3-1. The stoppage was to early i want to see izzy catch a knee to his face.
I've never seen someone nullify Izzy's running like Pereira did. At first it looks like Izzy wants to fight, but he was actually trying to run for like 80% of the fight. Pereira just kept marching forward and shutting down Izzy's lateral movement with hooks and kicks.
Congratulations to Periera. He earned it and worked hard for it. It was a fun fight and both gentleman put on a hell of a show. Israel is still the man and this doesn't take anything away from him (except his championship) I would love to see Izzy attempt to take his belt back, but I also can't wait to see Pereira defend his championship whenever that happens. All in all, I thought the fight was extremely entertaining and I love to see someone somehow coming back from a loss to take the win in the final moments of the fight...it's such an amazing thing to see. I just hope Izzy knows that he is still a champion in my book, but Pereira just managed to take him out like a pro right at the end to make it a crazy comeback. God I love fight sports. 🙌
This fight was everything that I want in a fight. Minus a little better grappling. I never really liked Izzy because I thought he was a bit of a show off but this fight was not a joke for Izzy and I respect that. Izzy gained a fan last night.
Alex sets up his opponent mind so they won't see the left hook coming. He pressed Izzy to the cage and had not fired the power punch, that made izzy felt safe leaning on the cage. 4th round he gave the impression of he was gassed out. 5th round made Izzy forgot the threat of his power punch... Its all over when Izzy thought he was safe leaning on the cage.
Plus Alex's coach has got in his head like you're losing his fight you need to knock him out let your hands go let your hands go give it everything you got and he did
I honestly was thinking the same thing when watching round 4. I think it was Cormier saying that periera looked tired and for some reason I just wasn't buying it. He sandbagged the 4th and made izzy forget about his hands of steel. I strongly believe perieira did the same thing in their last fight as well.
I think everyone's forgetting that not only does Alex possess power but he's an elite striker. That's what makes him scary. He's got power but he knows how to use it correctly
@Philosophy_First I dunno...AP was landing a lot of kicks, and checking Izzy's, along with a lot of body shots... Izzy went to wrestling because of that, trying something he is only rudimentary at best.
I thought the same thing im more of a boxing fan but that fight gave me goosebumps because anyone with eyes could see that Alex Pereira was dangerous the whole time. Like a juggernaut that just keeps coming. Like he didn't even have good take down defense he was just strong AF. And his head movement wasn't great and he was just eating the shots. Also he punches and kicks hard AF. But he is vulnerable as well so there was just so much going on. It was a great fight!
For anyone saying it was an early stoppage is Izzy's latest interview on ESON MMA and Izzy now thinks it was a good stoppage. He said at 1st he didn't but after his own corner told him that it was good stoppage he changed his mind. So if Izzy and his own corner think it was a good stoppage then thats the end to that conversation. If Alex would of connected again with the way Izzy was looking he would of been separated from his consciousness this whole "Going out on your shield" takes years off there was 4 minutes left.
Well Izzy could be just choosing to give same message as his corner. You don't have to agree for that, so I would not say the conversation is over in that aspect. It is over because it is pointless at this time.
@blakeb.8734 what do you mean? Izzy himself now changed his mind and protested it. The day after the fight comments under the channels XcellentMMA, MMA Zone, and MMA Talk people were going back n forth in the comment section. Just because your not watching these channels and not seeing it yourself does not mean im talking out my a$$ it just means your not seeing it. That's not my problem 🤷
@@shadowghost815 I am not talking about immediately after the fight, but now weeks later. Nobody is pushing the early stoppage argument nearly as much to defend it preemptively like you did.
The key to beating Izzy is getting inside and throwing. Izzy’s counters are amazing & fast as hell, so when you go in you gotta move that head. Izzy loves to extend that left arm and if you notice, he will move that extended arms hand in front of his opponents face to quickly block the view of the missile of a right hand that comes in. His left hooks are also short & choppy and super fast! He truly is an amazing striker!
Great analysis. If you showed up to the fight late and missed the first 4 rounds and observing Adesanya and Pereira's body language, one would get the impression Pereira was winning and was trying to close the show, when in reality Asesanya was up big. Adesanya looked more fatigued, beaten and less confident. Great finish to what was a great night at the fights.
Alex looked so relaxed the whole fight while Izzy was getting backed up and giving himself less escape routes. Was a great technical fight but you could tell Izzy’s wrestling was hs level and had no grappling power.

Well said🙌 Both are warriors, but Alex is a specimen👀
Izzy made a career out of beating smaller guys. As soon as someone is the same size or bigger and similar talent, he loses
he looked like Sagat from SF. Adesanya is probably too small.
And Pereira only came to MMA after Izzy said he was a nobody and would not be remembered. Thats poetic.
We will remember this for years to come.
he still is and will be though. The guy that beat a great, like Matt serra.

@@thecasual4880 Lol what? Serra landed a lucky punch and got smoked in the rematch. Poatan beat Izzy all 3 fights, twice by KO. You have no idea what you're talking about.
That’s not true. Keep making up reason to hate man.

Pereira’s control of the ring was so impressive. Had Israel backing up or against the cage the entire time
Thats hownizzy fights lmfao 🤣
@@berimbolo010 he put that pressure on him
I think it was intentional.
His knee isn’t spoken about enough. I think Izzy is the only one at middleweight he couldn’t land one on if they were tagged with a good jab.
As a izzy fan I'm glad it got stopped there was going to be a bad knockout if it wasn't stopped
A knee or front kick was coming. It could've been career ending
Head down.. no guard.. the knee would be mortal

If it went on any longer I could see Alex kneeing him out cold the way Izzy's head was down.
Izzy was saved from becoming a meme tbh
Perfectly said. Should thank Goddard that he allows him to fight another day. People wanted 2-3 more of Alex’s shots when he’s already visibly shook. Dana and Izzy’s coaches said good stoppage, no problem with it.
Goddard saved Izzy to fight another day.

It wasn't an early stoppage. Izzy was not intelligently or even consciously defending himself. He was unconscious on his feet, and his body was on auto pilot. The movement was just muscle memory.
@@Ridas10 he said Alex hurt his left leg, that's why he wasn't moving that much.
@@MalumFashEntertainment Since round 1?
Izzy has this ability to make it look like he was winning, Izzy caught Alex and rocked him once,
It looked like Izzy was winning the kicking exchange but it was actually Alex who was, Izzy even admitted it, and Alex actually hurt Izzy a few times with body shots, knees to the body, and shots to Izzy’s head when Izzy had Alex in a clinch and backed up again the cage, which caused Izzy to go for a take down, then of course the TKO,
I don’t know about you guys but watch it again and see
I love Chael man . I love his input . He’s a great ambassador for the sport .
PTSD Peirerra. That’s what izzy refers to him as
Chael sonnen with the 1am uploads 💯 true dedication
Izzy did what he always does and it cost him perriera made him fight more than he has in last few fights but he still fought not to lose instead of to win he was up 3-1 in the 5th and tried to coast to a win tried to run and grab/clinch perriera any time he got close but perriera went for broke knowing he was down and eventually connected it was wonderful
Izzy was down 3-1. With Alex leading every stat minus control time going into the 5th.... I really don't understand where all of you have izzy up. He won round three and that was it.
A cornered animal is of the most dangerous.
That was 2-2 going into 5
@@mattbarker1411 all the three judges had it 3:1 Izzy going into the 5th. Check on the ufc site. That might be why people think he won more rounds?
Chael always talks like he's cutting a promo, and I love it. 🤣

Why you feel the need to bring those fights?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
0-3
Yep hopefully Francis gets the same treatment as his other 2 boyfriends, Jones will destroy him

@@brc8688 Ok let's get back to reality here buddy 😂 Gynosanya losing doesn't mean Ngannou won't KO Jones.
Alex won rounds 1,2, and 4.... thank God you're not a judge.
The fact is even though Izzy lost his stock went up. A lot of his fans were turning on him from putting on lacklustre performances and this fight showed why we all got behind Izzy in the first place. Great fight and even better mma redemption story now.
His back in favour because he finally got matched against a opponent he couldn't snooze to a decision win?
Who's "we all"? Speak for yourself.
I agree with what your saying 100%. Just from a casuals perspective his stock will rise and I have been on the Izzy hate train since the Romero fight but this was the first fight since getting the belt that i haven’t regretted buy his ppv and am actually looking forward to his next fight.
@@Off_Brand_Mex speaking for most fans lol, obviously
That 3rd round. The ground game shows him still improving.
Shut up.
The whole part about “if you’re beating a guy’s ass and he’s acting like he doesn’t know he’s losing” is super interesting.

This just shows man that no matter how much skill you have at the end of the day if you go in swinging to knock the person's head off his shoulders with overwhelming firepower, your more than likely gonna win. Right now the Heavyweight and middleweight divisions are dominated by head hunting powerhouses.
A good wrestler is taking that belt from Alex. All that head hunting isn’t always gonna work
Chris Weidman 😂
I think its funny people thought Pereira wouldnt b ready for this moment. He was double champ in kickboxing and came to ufc with 1 purpose. Pereira looked huge in there he stalked the entire fight. Alex Pereira is the izzy Terminator and it was 3-1. The stoppage was to early i want to see izzy catch a knee to his face.
This is the only acceptable way to say it was an early stoppage. I like the way you think dr ron lol
I've never seen someone nullify Izzy's running like Pereira did. At first it looks like Izzy wants to fight, but he was actually trying to run for like 80% of the fight. Pereira just kept marching forward and shutting down Izzy's lateral movement with hooks and kicks.
Pereira won, so it's time you give him the respect of learning to pronounce his name.
Entire card surpassed my expectations
I was surprised that the ref jumped in, especially with the belt up. However, that would have been a fair stop for any other fight.
Hot take: Alex is gonna become double champ.
I'd wager he gets beat by Lower level guys due to ground game.
Yeah if Glover loses to Jiri that’d be a great fight for Alex.
He can't grapple yet and that's tough to learn to an elite level when you're in your mid 30s I'm guessing. If everyone decides to stand then sure
Yep 👍
If it's jiri he has a decent chance jiri has constantly said he doesn't like to use grappling to win and would just try to stand and bang with him
Alex sets up his opponent mind so they won't see the left hook coming.
Plausible
Great analysis
That’s a pretty good take on it
Plus Alex's coach has got in his head like you're losing his fight you need to knock him out let your hands go let your hands go give it everything you got and he did
I honestly was thinking the same thing when watching round 4. I think it was Cormier saying that periera looked tired and for some reason I just wasn't buying it. He sandbagged the 4th and made izzy forget about his hands of steel. I strongly believe perieira did the same thing in their last fight as well.
Alex took Izzy's soul made him a humble man now
I want Dan Henderson’s right hand and Alex Pereira’s left man. Lol
Both are so strong cause they get their body weight behind those punches for sure.
Great story from Pereira. Wish I could enjoy it, but I was cheering for Izzy
Lol
Izzy can come back from this lol it was an awesome fight
Seems like Adesanya was finally in there with someone with his same size and skill set.
Alex left him frozen like Elsa 🥶
Lmfao
Wtf is elsa?
I thought the same thing im more of a boxing fan but that fight gave me goosebumps because anyone with eyes could see that Alex Pereira was dangerous the whole time. Like a juggernaut that just keeps coming. Like he didn't even have good take down defense he was just strong AF. And his head movement wasn't great and he was just eating the shots. Also he punches and kicks hard AF. But he is vulnerable as well so there was just so much going on. It was a great fight!
Sonnen should be a judge in the high court
@blakeb.8734 exactly ITS POINTLESS
@@shadowghost815 well outside of you mentioning you will be hard pressed to find someone arguing it.
Alex "The Last StyleHunter" Pereira
I know it ain't gonna happen now or even if jiri retains but I cannot be the only person wanting to see jiri v alex
Now that'd be a war, and definitely for that - Dana make it happen! lol
