Erin needs serious help, just projecting anger for her ex on young Mark. Her attitude was probably why her ex left in the first place, but he shouldn't abandoned his son in the process. The stepdad was more loving to mark than both his parents.

Mark's father, Keith, was terrified when he is abandoned by his side girl, Sabrina.
Keith: I don't understand. Are you leaving me for another man?!
Sabrina: Exactly. You're just a mama's boy, who does things wrong, and who leaves his family for stupid reasons! What are you thinking?!
Keith: I left Mark and Erin for you, and-
Sabrina: IDIOT! You did it for money, but not for your family, you are a disgrace! Come back to them if you want, but not with me. Leave me alone!
Sabrina's cold words about Keith were the appropriate punishment. Keith leaves, and returns to his ex-boss, Phillip's house to forgive him.
Keith: Mark, son, forgive me. Sabrina left me after what happened, and-
Mark: No! I know very well what you and mom did to me. I didn't want to be mistreated by you two!
Keith: What are you talking about?!
His stepfather, Phillip, confronts him.
Phillip: I know your behavior, Keith. You left Mark with the monster of a mother that was Erin after leaving for another woman, and I knew what she did. Now she is wanted by the police, and she won't get out of this mess!
Keith: But why hadn't he told me that?!
Phillip: WHY DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT THAT, YOU PIECE OF IDIOT! YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOUR FAMILY, AND YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED!
Keith cries.
Keith: I'm sorry.
Phillip: Don't be sorry. You and Erin are the worst parents they had with Mark, and You two are going to make amends by themselves, by the way, you will not work with me again, you are fired. Now, get out.
Keith: FIRED?! NO-
Phillip slams the door in Keith's face. The father sadly leaves for a ramshackle hut, where he regrets his behavior too late. Mark's mother, Erin, ends up arrested and taken in a police car that she waited, she was processed and taken to the maximum, serving life in prison. Erin smiles furiously for showing no remorse for her mistreatment of Mark, and she ends up attacked and beaten daily by Big Bertha and her inmates.

Erin was acting like an jerk. Taking her anger out on her son. Saying you are the black sheep in the family. That was Rude. Her new husband was nice to her son. Kicked out her own son was mean. Erin need anger management class for her anger.
