Utah AD Harlan did not apologize for his remarks. He didn't say he was sorry or that he apologized for what he said. He simply acknowledged that he chose the wrong way to express his opinion. That's NOT the same thing as saying he was sorry to have said what he did in the way that he did.
Harlan made at least three mistakes: 1) He mouthed off to the press 2) He walked onto the field in the middle of a play to yell at the refs 3) He didn't "Rival Right" and failed to set an example and good precedent for Utah fans and players. A $40k fine only covers the first one.
The UT AD’s annual salary is over $1 million plus incentives. Plus he also was on the playing field while play was happening. His actions are not part of his job description, therefore he should pay the fine out of his own salary, not taking money from the Athletics Budget.
Mind boggling the University hasn't said anything yet (or have i missed it?) He has not apologized, and i don't believe he has any intention of apologizing. For a great story and example look for the utah player picking up trash after the game. Landen King - greatest Ute ever!
He did it, he should pay it out of his salary. I think Utah also should think if this man is someone the school wants to be representing them. His apology wasn’t really an apology. This fit of his embarrassed the league and school nationally.
Harlan issued a "Statement" not an "apology" or "apology statement." There was no remorse or apology included. He excused his poor behavior and doubled down on his irrational stance.
I am a tax-paying UTE fan but there is NO WAY I think that I, or any other tax payer in the state, should pay for the petulant rant of someone who has forgotten the meaning of sportsmanship.
Correction, the 50 yard drive, and last second field goal led directly to the BYU win. The holding call led to a BYU first down placing them on their own 15 yard line with a new set of downs.
I wish the government would include a checklist with your tax forms that allow taxpayers the opportunity to choose WHERE their tax dollars go. I used to work for Jordan School District, and every time I hear the hue and cry for more money for education, I want to scream. They need to teach these propagandists how to manage the money they get and stop spending on frivolous things like FORCING teachers to use an iPad in order to continue employment in the District.
Well, you know, when they already have 3 minutes of your evening newscast scheduled to a story and no one will return your call or answer your question, you fill it with whatever fluff you can find on the streets.
The penalty call only got BYU out of a bad situation. So that call didn't lead to anything beyond that. What led to the final points is the Ute defense not stopping BYU. BYU still had to go at least 54 yards for FG range. Harlan didn't applogize. I read his comments concerning the matter. He acknowledged he approached the situation the wrong way, but never apologized for what he said. He still agreed with what he said.
An "apology" FALSE NEWS! KUTV call it was is, a weak statement spun by lawyer and a PR person. U of U needs to be transparent of who pays the fine. The University is a taxpayer supported institution and needs to be held accountable.
If the fine is not coming out of athletic Director, Mark Harlan’s personal paycheck than the fine needs to be increased into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is a slap on the wrist if the athletic department is paying the fine and it’s not appropriate given this is one of the most egregious statements ever made by an Athletic Director, I can remember.
Should Utah be sued for water bottle incident since they not only did not control the crowd but fed the crowd at the highest level within athletic department?
If the university pays this fine, then it is basically the taxpayers that are paying it. That means fans from Utah State from Weber State to BYU and Southern University, all help pay that idiots fine. What an immature, selfish man.
So you basically do a broadcast of a question that ends in nothing more than a question. Do you guys just get off on making fluff filler with no punchline?
Set up a fan gofundme. Wtf Utefans. Stand behind him. Everyone makes mistakes. Why is everyone such a GD Crybaby about this? This is a “nothing story”. Worried about taxes? Your taxes go to worse things. Bunch of hypocrites… it’s just a game…
Way to deflect fault. There is evidence that it was the correct call. But let's leave that out of the equation. Harlan entered the field of play WHILE the game was still going, he was disrespectful to the referees, and belittled them on national TV. My guess is that he AND your coach treated them the EXACT same way in the Pac12. I love the fact that since time began, the newts have NEVER done anything wrong. Truthfully, your athletic program is rotten to the core, and information continues to come out of reprehensible behavior from coaches and administrators.
WHAT HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH, HARLAN HAD EVERY RIGHT TO FEEL ANGRY ! TERRIBLE CALLS IN THAT GAME ! ALL GOOD MORMONS SHOULD SUPPORT HARLAN'S OPINION ! 🤡🌎
You are freaking hilarious! Could it also be considered hate speech? Don't drag LDS people down into your mud pit! He said things he had no place saying, and your constant cries of "freedom of speech" don't equate to you can say anything you desire. I think your HC in waiting can testify that going on a bigoted binge is NOT protected under that amendment. Nice try though.
"Good" LDS member here, and certainly will NEVER condone an adult acting like a petulant child. ESPECIALLY when so many more views have come out showing the clear foul. No apologies from Harlan, Whitt or Randall. I would truly like to k on what was said by the U hierarchy when the film was finally watched. You would think that alone would deserve an "oops" comment, but since the Utes are the ones always getting screwed, you will never see them admit it.
Harlan didn't apologize. Harlan shouldn't apologize. The Big 12 and its refs deserve the criticism because these were former Pac-12 refs. And with all the problems in officiating in the Pac-12 throughout the years, it was dumb for the Big 12 to hire them and not think that those officiating problems wouldn't rise again.
What criticism? For correctly calling a blatant holding penalty. If there wasn't a holding penalty and they called it anyway, then they deserve the criticism.
There was no call, it has a reason. It was either illegitimate or stupidity. You can jam and impede, hit and hit again enroute until …. the ball is in the air. The NFL says contact should end after 5 yards. Even if this was an NFL play. It was legal
Dude! You CAN'T GRAB THE JERSEY OF YOUR OPPONENT! You folks are grasping at straws to try and legitimize a blatantly obvious infraction! Do yourself a favor and read the NCAA rule book. I'm going to do you a favor and tell you SPECIFICALLY where to look: Rule 9 - Article 4 - bullet points 2 and 3. While you're at it, check rule 3 - Section 5 - article 2 - bullet c. The Utes consistently broke this rule with no flags thrown by having their defensive players enter and exit the field of play during substitutions to purposely run the play clock down. Forcing BYU to burn their timeouts.
Utah AD Harlan did not apologize for his remarks. He didn't say he was sorry or that he apologized for what he said. He simply acknowledged that he chose the wrong way to express his opinion. That's NOT the same thing as saying he was sorry to have said what he did in the way that he did.
Good.
So.... basically the Utah taxpayers are footing the bill. Not ok. He should pay for that out of his own salary.
Harlan made at least three mistakes:
1) He mouthed off to the press
2) He walked onto the field in the middle of a play to yell at the refs
3) He didn't "Rival Right" and failed to set an example and good precedent for Utah fans and players.

I don't think they know how to handle it, but I do.
He did it, he should pay it out of his salary. I think Utah also should think if this man is someone the school wants to be representing them. His apology wasn’t really an apology. This fit of his embarrassed the league and school nationally.
The athletic department will pay for it.
If it doesn't come out of his salary, then it will come out of either Utah students' pockets or taxpayers' wallets.
Or both.
Silly to think that the fine would come out of taxpayer money.
AD should pay for fine or be fired! He interfered in the Utah chances of winning on the final play. Fire his sorry butt!
Please report when he makes an actual apology
Sad Utah did not score at all in the 2nd half or stop byu after the call
I guess those Ute football fans haven't figured out that football games have 60 minutes of play time!
He did not apologize in any way shape or form
Correction, the 50 yard drive, and last second field goal led directly to the BYU win. The holding call led to a BYU first down placing them on their own 15 yard line with a new set of downs.
Better not come out of my taxes. Lol.
😂😂pay up. 😂😂
I wish the government would include a checklist with your tax forms that allow taxpayers the opportunity to choose WHERE their tax dollars go.
I used to work for Jordan School District, and every time I hear the hue and cry for more money for education, I want to scream.

CORRECTION: Harlan didn't apologize - read his statement again.
Mark Harlen Should Pay It Period , Huge U Fan Here I Even Went To The U , The AD Mark Is Responsible Pay The Bill
I predict a few legislators are going to want to know where the money comes from...
If my tax dollars go to this fine I’ll be pissed
😂😂😂😂😂
The director himself has to pay out of his own bank account he needs to tell his wife that he just spent 40K stupidly 😅
Unsurprisingly trash news story. Half of the video is just a re-hashing of game reactions. Stick to the focus
Well, you know, when they already have 3 minutes of your evening newscast scheduled to a story and no one will return your call or answer your question, you fill it with whatever fluff you can find on the streets.
@wafflewafflegod trash? Seems harsh.
@ - If by harsh you mean “accurate,” then yes
It should come out of Cry baby Harlan juice box fund
Harlan never apologized.
Plus, how can you get angry at an official for CORRECTLY calling an obvious holding penalty? If he didn't call it, that would have been criminal.
Make the AD pay thst fine!
Kick Utah out of the Big 12 we don't need them at all they add nothing but trouble. Either that or fire Harlan. Zero tolerance for punk behavior.
I mean the cry baby makes $950k/year plus bonus... so pretty sure he can fit the bill pretty easily.
That chickensh** Harlan will charge it off to the students
Utah taxpayers ultimately pay for his misbehavior.
😂😂😂😂
Look… if I speed and get a ticket, I have to pay the fine. I think it’s pretty simple! At his salary $40K only “kind of” hurts!
Taxpayer dollars???
I hope Colorado wins 50-0.
No accountability or responsibility. The taxpayers will end up footing the bill.
😂😂😂pay up.
Utah leave the Big 12, NOW
Somehow I sense that this will ultimately come out of the student’s pockets. Nicely done, Harlan.
An "apology" FALSE NEWS! KUTV call it was is, a weak statement spun by lawyer and a PR person. U of U needs to be transparent of who pays the fine. The University is a taxpayer supported institution and needs to be held accountable.
the Tax payer ?

Utah taxpayers
KSL he did not apologize. After watching the replay Whit and Harlin should apologize or be fired.
Ummmmm before you go running your mouth, verify ONE thing if that's all you can do.
The report was from KUTV, NOT KSL.
You call that an apology
Utah sucks as a football team
He did not apologize.
That was not an apology
Fire Harlan or make him pay out of his own pocket!
So the answer is we don’t know… great story.
AD needs to pay it out of his own bank account
He needs to be the adult in the room or others may see his behavior as justification for their own.
If my taxes help pay his fine, I’m not happy, at all. Also why has Pres. Randall said nothing?
He shouldn’t be allowed on the sidelines for one year.
Anyone who see's the play thinks it's a blatant hold. The defender almost pulled the BYU player to the ground. ruclips.net/user/shorts1YB5KH-eFSE
I’ll pay
I think it should come out of the general tithing fund.
90 percent of student loans go to violent athletic programs 😂
If the university pays this fine, then it is basically the taxpayers that are paying it. That means fans from Utah State from Weber State to BYU and Southern University, all help pay that idiots fine. What an immature, selfish man.
He should pay for the fine out of hos own pocket
Better not be the Taxpayer!!!!!!!!
The program brings in millions and he was speaking in an official capacity. Obvious don't you think?
Zero consequence if he doesn’t pay the fine himself. University of Utah is soft if they let him get off scott free
FAFO. That's what the Utes are doing.
Who gets the 40K?
I’ll save you some time. They don’t know.
DONT BRING THIS DRAMA TO CU, #WECOMING AND WE BRINGING THE SMOKE 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kids will be kids..............big and small.
So you basically do a broadcast of a question that ends in nothing more than a question. Do you guys just get off on making fluff filler with no punchline?

Couldn't handle the comment tinker bells? Boo Hoo!!!
You couldn't hear anything? A stadium full of people and you couldn't hear any of them?
The big 12 needs to fined and be investigated esp the big 12 officials and the refs.
You're in the minute minority. Video replay my friend tells it all.
Way to deflect fault. There is evidence that it was the correct call.

DON'T APOLOGIZE HARLAN, BE STRONG , REPRESENT THE 1ST AMMENDMENT, FREEDOM OF SPEECH ! 🇺🇲

Boo hoo. Utes lost. BYU had a face mask call that wasn't and that gave the Utes 7 points as a result. You failed to mention this
Dude! You CAN'T GRAB THE JERSEY OF YOUR OPPONENT!
You folks are grasping at straws to try and legitimize a blatantly obvious infraction!
Do yourself a favor and read the NCAA rule book. I'm going to do you a favor and tell you SPECIFICALLY where to look:

The big 12 is trash and so are their reffs.
Pretty strong statement to be making. Can I see the receipts, as they say?
@lukeslc-xd8ds yep, just use the ole interwebs
Just typical Ute behavior. Butt chapped
