A visit to Mandvi is incomplete without a visit to Vijay Vilas palace. I have been visiting it since childhood when I was living in Gandhidham back in the 90's. Me and my folks used to enjoy a relaxed weekend in Mandvi whenever possible. The pristine and quiet beaches, local hospitality at the PWD guest houses (now defunct) and simplicity was amazing.
I also had the privilege to meet the Maharaja of Kutch, Shri. Pragmalji by chance during one such visit to Vijay Vilas Palace when I was in my teens. As we were frequent visitors and had a good rapport with the caretaker, he himself arranged for a meeting. A very warm and down to earth person he is. Now of course, he is at a very advanced age.
All of this was long before the Bollywood connection made it famous!
