    Man, how did Catastrophe not make the list... literally the perfect board wipe. Armageddon when you're ahead on board, wrath of god when you're behind.

    This weekend we had a pretty nice Commander round.
    My very best friend was playing for her first time Commander and managed to play my unchangend Arahbo Precon, my cousin run his Thasa Deep Sea Creatures an I played my Sen Triplets.
    Was a very intense Game!
    We had just two Board Wipes, which is very unusual for a two of our self constructed decks. My cousin copied my O Stone (I hadn't enough mana to put some counters on my stuff...)
    Got beaten the shit out of me by her cats but could stand a while thanks to Rhystic Study which let me draw like 10 cards (yes she didn't want to pay that often for her spells an additional Mana :D).
    But the Point ist that she was able to play her 14 cards hand after a Cyclonic Rift (love that card!) down to seven again!
    Thanks to Mirari's Wake XD
    Haven't seen this many times before in a precon.
    To quote Jace: "I had a headache" :P
    I think we got her into Commander :D

    My current Baral deck wins by casting flood of tears and putting Archeomancer into play. Then I cast three 0 drop artifacts and rinse repeat every turn until I get Omniscience. Then I win. Also Spellbook and Reliquary Tower are MVPs.

    • @Heldenfussel
      @Heldenfussel 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, but it's not about "blowing everithing up", it's about to play efficient removal against your threats and don't get punished by your own removal. Like you can always use Austere Command or the Conviction to get rid of your actual problem and don't get punished too Hard...Also you want to save your Mana rocks and other noncreature permanents most of the time so "destroy all permanents" effects are rarely better, especially against cards like Heroic Intervention...also bot are triple white and Oblivion ring is far better

    • @jakeapplegate6642
      @jakeapplegate6642 5 лет назад

      Heldenfussel single target removal is not very good in commander unless it is repeatable/recurring or synergistic.

    Bane of Progress is my favorite ... I laugh my ass off when People see my activate Green Sun Zenith and fear a Craterhoof ... precisely because I used to get Cyclonic rift and lost my battle phase. Bane of progress kills all that blue players mana rocks while dealing with the rest of the table :)

  • @GuardianAngelEatos
    @GuardianAngelEatos 7 лет назад +1

    This is a very interesting top 10. I personally would not put Pernicious Deed that high because it is going to make everyone else target you until you trigger it.
    I forgot about this board wipe, and could really use it in my Mazirek deck since there aren't many good board wipes in those colors, and my Kadador deck could use it too because Sun Titan.
    I think It's hard to choose a top ten board wipes because the ones that are better at doing the job cost more mana, while the ones that aren't as versatile and or don't get rid of indestructible creatures because they are cheap board wipes they allow you to play more or play bigger spells during the same turn. I think it comes down to what your group plays with and your deck.
    So why did Terminus make the honorable mentions and not Hallowed Burial? They are the same, except Hallowed Burial doesn't have the Miracle cost, but it naturally costs one less mana. How often are you going to want to cast Terminus when you draw it?
    Yeah Blasphemous Act is very underrated, and I think It's one of the best too! I put it in every deck that has red in it.
    Yeah It's not a surprise to see Cyclonic Rift be number one. That's my number one too.
    I'm so glad that Austere Command got a reprint! I've always wanted that card! It's so good!
    I think the only card worth banning over Cyclonic Rift would be Deadeye Navigator. I'm so surprised that it hasn't been banned yet!

      Basilisk Collar/Gorgon Flail on Deathbringer Thoctar works similarly. If you add something like Blade of the Bloodchief, it even grows while it's wiping things.

      The life gain is pretty negligible in commander. If someone is gonna beat you, usually the spare ten to fifteen life won't stop them. Past that it's really really plain.

      Adding life gain doesn’t justify having to pay 5 mana instead of 4 for a wrath of god. It was fine in standard but commander has numerous better options.

    I think ugin and band of progress deserved a mention. Also in my opinion oblivion stone is crap in this format. Deluge should have been top 3

    • @DrukenReaps
      @DrukenReaps 7 лет назад

      How is the stone crap? there is so much it gets rid of, you can keep stuff if you have time to set it up, and artifacts are easy to return for reuse. It is harsh on mana but ugin is only one less. I could see saying it is ok but x, y, z are better.

      It might be fine in games that go on for over an hour but if people are playing good decks then it gets really clunky. If you play it on curve it does nothing for you and you give your opponents plenty of time to destroy it before you get any use out of it. Being able to give your stuff protection from it isn't really an upside because of the steep mana cost. If you are paying 4 mana to give one permanent protection from a boardwipe you maybe use next turn you are already doing something wrong. And if you pay the 8 mana late game to use it right away you are likely tapping out for it and giving your opponents a turn to set up their own boards before you get to do anything else. not to mention any ramp besides land ramp that you do to make it a faster card will get blown up as soon as you use it. There is a very slim chance that you will be able to set up a scenario with this card that has you coming out ahead after you use it, which is what I always look for in a board wipe.

      Alright that is all valid reasoning. I probably just think of it as pretty nice since my first edh deck was karn silver golem and I could often make it one sided with darksteel forge. nev's disk was preferred though since it takes more effort to bring the stone back than to tap the disk again.

      I think Ugin, Bane and Disk are all pretty nice if you play in a slower multiplayer round like the casual player and/or got the right shell

    You seriously underrate mana efficiency. The only sweeper arguable that's better then deluge is rift. And I still think it gets the edge. Also you are fucking wrong when you say life is not a resource in other formats. Decks that utilize life as a resource in other formats almost always gets it. Take black summer, take the fact that fetchlands are the best lands in the game, take deaths shadow. Or mana crypt or ancient tomb. This is ridiculous. You even nodded to mana efficiency in your blasphemous act. Like wtf.

      @CommanderVoid  7 лет назад

      It’s like I struck a nerve or something. Yes, life is a resource in commander compared to other formats because 40 life is plenty to work with. Cards like necropotence and phyrexian arena see a ton more play in this format as well as sylvan library.
      How is deluge even close to rift? You do realize late game when you’re low in life it’s practically dead? It doesn’t even deal with non-creatures.
