The first time I heard this song, my boyfriend and I were at the homecoming dance at our school. He was 15 and I was 13. He whispered in my ear that he loved me and was going to marry me….44 yrs later, we are still together and will celebrate our 39th anniversary this year…. In 1980 I was 17 years old. I'm here to say love is real at that age and I remember how turned on I was by this song. I can still remember the steamed windows of my boyfriend's car...on a lonely gravel road. 44 years later we have a 42 year old daughter.... music can take you back to a moment in time. ❤️

@leisasmith, Your story reminds me of when I was young. I was about 11 when this song was on the air so about the same time frame as your story. Friends and I would sneak out of our houses and go down by the golf course and watch cars pull up to park. Few minutes later, the windows would steam up and then you could see the shadows of legs go up in the air. At this moment, we would run up and start banging on the windows and then dart into the woods. It wasn’t a half second before those cars would go screeching out the parking lot with tires blazing up the hill from the pro shop into the night. Sure do miss the 80s.
Interestingly enough, even while I WAS a teen in the 80s, I knew it was special. I recall being really grateful I was coming of age in the 80s and not before or after (even tho obviously I couldn't see into the future! lol.) And I was right. The summer of ‘80 . . . my best friend Shannon and I spent the summer working in his dad’s body shop, building and installing engines in the hot cars his dad built and painted. We were both 15 then. We got to drive all those cars and trucks all summer, often picking up my girlfriend Gina, sipping beers and toking an occasional joint, while this played on the radio about every 1/2 hour. We all moved on after that. Gina moved to another state, Shannon’s life was tragically ended by a drunk driver in’85. I’m 60 now, but any time I hear this song, it takes me back to that summer. A summer I’ll never forget.
Woah. That’s a sad story with great memories. So sorry for the lost of your best friend. God bless sir. I was only 2 years old that year. But I can tell you. The 1980’s was one of the best times to grow up in. I sure do miss those days. I remember most of the 1980’s very very well.
Guilty ✋🏼. I was 16 when it came out and crazy in love with my HS sweetheart. The long run was not in the cards for us but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Never loved so strong since and never will again. It was intoxicating and almost disorienting. An amazing feeling ❤
I got married in ‘82 and I loved this song to this day. I used to dream about someone taking me away and then I met my husband-to-be in late ‘79. He just took me away and 42 years later here we are.😊
I was just talking to one of my daughters about meeting her dad when I was 15. I'm 56 now, and 7 children and 10 grandchildren later, we're still in love. When is right, it's right forever.
I remember it well on the radio back in the day. We all thought he was black when we first heard it. Classic even though it only went to #11. I'm about to turn 60 here. WOKI Knoxville was the best station in those days.
I was 16 years old when this came out. My then boyfriend , who became my husband, always dedicated this to me. More than 40 years later, it still gives me the chills, the romantic ones ❤❤❤
I was 18 years old in 1980 and absolutely LOVED this song! And when I hear it today, it takes me right back in time...we had awesome music back then 🎶🎶
One hit wonder, but one of the most beautiful one hit wonders ever. I fell in love with this song when I was a junior in high school and Knew I was in love with the college sophomore next door. It became OUR song. She actually gave me a chance and even stayed with me after joining the Navy....for 26 years. Three beautiful children. R and IP Benny, and thank you.
This is the most passionate vocal experience ever! The song shook me all those years ago when I first heard it . . . and still does . . . every . . . time. ❤
I think of this song as 2 teenagers in love & of course, the parents of the girl are protective. But teenage love is magical, blinding, mesmerizing…..nothing stops them. I know, I was a teen, once😘

1980......what a time for a young man of 16 years. Heartache can definitely be felt at that age. That was a time when you could call a radio station and request a song and dedicate it to someone.

Kids today have no clue what REAL music is. I was born in the 70s and grew up through the 80s and graduated from high school in early 90s and in all honesty I prefer the older more classic music over the newer music. Its real and its raw which is why I love it so. Don't get me wrong I do listen to the newer stuff too because music is my first love but my go to is 60s, 70s and the 80s. I'm really proud to be Gen X because I know what real muscle cars and real music is so I'm blessed in this and I feel sad to know Gen Z has no real clue unless their parents taught them right and educated them in real Music and Muscle Cars. I'd give anything for music to go back to the 80s style and even some of the fashion but I wouldn't want to be a teenager all over again unless I could go back with what I know now, then maybe lol.
@@Virgolove That is cool, my parent's made sure I knew 60's, 70's and well I grew up through the 80's and graduated in early 90's and I still listen to newer things but my go to is the 60's, 70's and 80's, its a hard must for me even experimenting with the newer genres.

In the 1980's I was a teenager and all our music then had real meaningful meaning behind their music. That's the best music back then. They just don't have music like they did in the 1980's and 1990's. I sure miss those days and years.

Still love this song! I fell in love the first time when I was still 15 just before my 16th birthday. And my boyfriend was five years older than me so I identified with this song. Real love can happen pretty darn young.
In 1980 she was just 16 years old and I was 18, yah we got pregnant and had a son. Had the whole shotgun wedding thing and they all said we'd never make it, We'll be married 44 years this August and still going strong, and we loved proving all the doubters wrong!!!
Rarely do we ever see or hear any song with this much passion. I think that’s the reason so many people love this song. You can feel him. Also, he’s not ashamed of the way he feels about this girl. Loved this song back in the day, still love it today!!!❤
This guy was very underrated! Hard working musician & very good song writer. Enjoyed his Music! RIP Benny!

Outstanding Song
Who Wrote The Lyrics To This Song ??? Bill Clinton??
@@johnpeterson4325Nah it was your guy Donald Von Schitzenpants. He wrote it about his daughter, Ivanka 👍
We miss you Bro but we know you’re at peace and pain free Keep powering those vocals in heaven Until we all meet again
In 1980 i also was 18 this song has always been on my chart I am in love with this song who else is??
Guilty ✋🏼. I was 16 when it came out and crazy in love with my HS sweetheart. The long run was not in the cards for us but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. Never loved so strong since and never will again. It was intoxicating and almost disorienting.
An amazing feeling ❤
Wow Very descriptive! Thanks.@@scottarivett496

Me, too…glad you can’t wear the Internet out like my record was. ❤
I am 🥰
I got married in ‘82 and I loved this song to this day. I used to dream about someone taking me away and then I met my husband-to-be in late ‘79. He just took me away and 42 years later here we are.😊
I was 24 in 1980. Love this song as much now at 68 as I did then. RIP Benny.
I was just talking to one of my daughters about meeting her dad when I was 15. I'm 56 now, and 7 children and 10 grandchildren later, we're still in love. When is right, it's right forever.

Benny never got the acclaim he deserved. He was, without a doubt, one of the BEST singers ever!
One of the most romantic songs ever written.
I was 21 years old then and just Discovered what love 💕 was all about l met my first girlfriend of 6 years she was in college & only 17
Sweet. Congrats!
One hit wonder..."Twice" ! 😊
This is the most passionate vocal experience ever! The song shook me all those years ago when I first heard it . . . and still does . . . every . . . time. ❤
I couldn’t agree more. His voice is amazing, still hits me every time I hear it.
I think of this song as 2 teenagers in love & of course, the parents of the girl are protective. But teenage love is magical, blinding, mesmerizing…..nothing stops them. I know, I was a teen, once😘

In 1980, I was 28. I got married 1 day after graduation( 1968 ) 16 years old. Went to Vietnam 1 month later.

1980......what a time for a young man of 16 years.
Heartache can definitely be felt at that age. That was a time when you could call a radio station and request a song and dedicate it to someone.
My wife was 17 and I was 20 when I married her. Married 34 years this coming September.
RIP Benny one of the most beautiful songs ever!!!!!!!❤

And 44 years later - still in love with my darling.
I am glad that there are couples that stand the test of time that actually love each other !
Benny Mardones has 1 of the sexiest male voices of all times. I was just starting college. I absolutely went crazy every time this song played on the radio. Still one of my favorite 80's songs (CD's) today. Thanks Benny❗🧡👏🙏
I was 16 when this song came out my boyfriend and I loved it 42 years later we still love it.
I was 14 in 1980. I basically grew up in the Best Era!
My kids wish they had what we had. My 17 year old tells me he wishes so badly he was a part of those times. 💯
I was 12 and did not know the rollercoaster I was getting into in the 80’s and I loved every single minute of it!!!
Not just music, we grew up without internet and social media. We had real life friends to hangout and talk on the phone. :)
@@33Jenesis It was great!!
I was 20 yrs old & a waitress at an all night diner when this came out. I drove everybody CRAZY bcz I played it REPEATEDLY on the jukebox ALL NIGHT LONG!!! LOVE IT!! 💚☮️🧡
So grateful my aunt left me all of her music from the 70's and 80's. No doubt they knew exactly how to write music back then.
Wow. Yes. Best of times! If you were in your 20’s in the 80’s you lived in the best music era ever!😊
Very grateful to the Professor of Rock's interview with Benny to clarify the lyrics. It's a beautiful story of one man's concern for a vulnerable family.
Yes! Would highly recommend that anyone that loves this song look up that interview.very enlightening. Benny was a good guy. Peace be with you, Benny.

80s music era, was deep in emotion lyrics were incredible. All had messages about relationship. Which was sweet. To be able to go back in that time would be astonishing phenomenal ❤
I fell in love to this song. Every time it comes on there radio I'm right back at the skating rink, couple skating with this tall, blonde haired boy, rough around the edges, butterflies in my stomach, hoping he would kiss me. He did, and shortly after, my family moved away. But he wrote me love letters that I still have today. He's passed away now, but I will allow always hold that time of my life in my heart

Benny's voice is none comparable to any other singer. This voice just takes you to another level way up to another galaxy.
You wouldn't know this artist unless you were around in 1980 unless you happened to stumble on it or just curious. This one is Magic, I was 21 when it came out in "80" and every once in a while I need to romance with it again, another great time that is never wasted when music can't get any better! ❤
I was 19 a frist time mom and going through a nasty divorce and 6 year's later I would marry the man of my young girl dreams and that was 38 years ago music is a time traveler when you want too visit old memories and all you have to do is listen to the music 🎶 ❤😊

Wow! I've heard this song hundreds of times and I've never seen his face.
There is a actual video for this song
My kids do...my 15 yr old loves this music of the 70s:))
I'm glad they don't, then they would mess it up.
Stop it man! Your killing me! I wanna go back now!😂
@@Virgolove That is cool, my parent's made sure I knew 60's, 70's and well I grew up through the 80's and graduated in early 90's and I still listen to newer things but my go to is the 60's, 70's and 80's, its a hard must for me even experimenting with the newer genres.
This song is magic-it’s like a Time Machine that transported me back to my teens.
Highschool, a girl you had a crush on, she smiles when you look at her, end of the semester school party, this song comes on, you and her on the dance floor, heaven.!!!
In the 1980's I was a teenager and all our music then had real meaningful meaning behind their music. That's the best music back then. They just don't have music like they did in the 1980's and 1990's. I sure miss those days and years.
Well, every decade had their moments....I'm sure Get Down Tonight and Shake Shake Shake, Shake your booty isn't exactly deep philosophy.
We had loving love to go along with that meaningful meaning.
Takes you back to your first love, the chorus is breathtaking!
I say that in 1980 was a world apart from present day. I was there. Love was real back then. Teenagers back then new what love ment. They learned it from their parents.

OMG!! Wow, the memories! Wish i could go back in time to those days!!!
Hi Ethel💐💐
Rarely do we ever see or hear any song with this much passion. I think that’s the reason so many people love this song. You can feel him. Also, he’s not ashamed of the way he feels about this girl. He just wants her to feel good even though her parents are splitting up, and everything in her life is falling apart.
I miss those days SO much. 😢
