Awww, I didn't realize Benny was in senior living. That was so wonderful that he was receiving all that mail. He was and still is loved. Into The Night has always been one of my favorite songs. He put so much passion into his music. Back in the day, when MTV and VH1 played the videos, I would run in to watch Benny sing. He was so gorgeous. Miss you Benny.

Interestingly enough, even while I WAS a teen in the 80s, I knew it was special. I recall being really grateful I was coming of age in the 80s and not before or after (even tho obviously I couldn't see into the future! lol.) And I was right. The vibe of the decade, the music, the toys, even some of the hair & clothing styles, and other societal aspects have either endured, or they are longed for. In a way that other decades cannot precisely claim... Man it was so awesome.

No cell phones, hardly any internet that I can remember back then, regular 30 minute tv shows, so you run and do chores during the commercials, and not recorded, so ppl would stay home for certain shows. One phone in the kitchen, no privacy, every one knew what was going on w ea other cause we also all ate dinner together that my mom made! Wow, lol. yes, the things that were, when people were considerate, thoughtful, respectful, caring, and not self-centred. When life was fun and people were fun, we were not subjected to filth on our TV screens with potty language. The cost of living was fair to our paypacket. People spoke to each other and took the time to write a letter to someone or picked up the home phone to say hello, how are you. When you would go next door to see your neighbour and sit and have a coffee and a chat. Yes, the things that were that as a lucky generation we experienced those wonderful times, and I have no doubt, you miss them as much as I do.

The summer of ‘80 . . . my best friend Shannon and I spent the summer working in his dad’s body shop, building and installing engines in the hot cars his dad built and painted. We were both 15 then. We got to drive all those cars and trucks all summer, often picking up my girlfriend Gina, sipping beers and toking an occasional joint, while this played on the radio about every 1/2 hour. We all moved on after that. Gina moved to another state, Shannon’s life was tragically ended by a drunk driver in’85. I’m 60 now, but any time I hear this song, it takes me back to that summer. A summer I’ll never forget.

By the end of the summer he disappeared no one heard from him in a year. We all joked we’ll get a postcard. I woke up from a night of partying read the newspaper and some hunters had found a gun and human bones in the woods. Turned out nick never got on that boat but had committed suicide. He never told me about all his inner demons, I wish he had. I’m still living life for the both of us, great guy, great memories and I think of him often.

Kids today have no clue what REAL music is. I was born in the 70s and grew up through the 80s and graduated from high school in early 90s and in all honesty I prefer the older more classic music over the newer music. Its real and its raw which is why I love it so. Don't get me wrong I do listen to the newer stuff too because music is my first love but my go to is 60s, 70s and the 80s. I'm really proud to be Gen X because I know what real muscle cars and real music is so I'm blessed in this and I feel sad to know Gen Z has no real clue unless their parents taught them right and educated them in real Music and Muscle Cars. I'd give anything for music to go back to the 80s style and even some of the fashion but I wouldn't want to be a teenager all over again unless I could go back with what I know now, then maybe lol.

Another greatest musician of the 80’s era. The 80’s was the greatest decade for the greatest then and now and will last as long as it can. I was lucky to enjoy the 80’s music and all the bands that has lasted and still going on and it seems the more they sing their songs from the 80’s song more they get popular all over again.

The 80's was the greatest music. I am also happy to enjoy that time when I was a teenager. Now I am 55 years old and I keep listening to that kind of romantic songs here in Buenos Aires Argentina helping me to avoid hard times ❤

I had just started dating a 16 year old runaway who had shown up at our band practice .. it hadn’t quite become ‘a thing’ yet and I learned she had been graped by a roofer working on the house/apt she and some other runaways were living … I had felt I was falling in love with her (I was 17 or 18) but the police had intervened and she was taken in by a foster family and moved somewhere .. I felt pain for it not going anywhere but was also happy for her that she had gotten a safe place to live .. this song always reminded me of her

Just looked up Benny Mardones. Like so many others here, I remember this song and life before the internet, cell phones, 24/7 news, etc.
I’m rediscovering some of the music of my youth, such as The Cars, Kansas, Bob Seger, and tons of “one hit wonders.” A lot of the fun is SEEING what these artists looked like, especially the one-hit artists.
Interesting guy, Benny. His father was Chilean. Though “Into the Night” was Benny’s only vocal hit, he wrote songs for many other stars throughout his career. Pretty sure that was his ‘bread-&-butter.’ He graduated from high school the year I was born (Yikes! 😳.) He served with the Navy in Vietnam, began his career in music after returning home. It seems he picked up a nasty drug habit when he hit the big time with “Into the Night.” From what I read, this brought his budding singing career to a dead stop. He was married 3 times, and had 1 child (a son.) Benny was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000 and died in 2020 from complications of the disease. He was 73.

He had a wonderfully raspy voice .
He has 2 things in common with my 4 children - born in Cleveland ,Ohio...to a father who was born and raised in Chile.
I was 15 years old in 1980. Turned this song WAY UP whenever it came on the radio.
    Rest in peace, Benny ♡
