Nicole was the reason I got in to Cybersecurity. After about a year of working towards that goal, I am proud to say that last week I accepted my first role in cybersec last week! Thank you Nicole!
It is worth it. I just completed the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate today 5th June 2023. Although, I spend an average of 12 hours every day for 30 days. I enrolled on 05th May 2023. I started the program without any background order python basic, both today, I can use Linux, Suricata, SQL, Python, and Splunk tools. It helped me to develop security mindset. I am really happy. Mind YOU, IT ALSO GIVES 30% discount for CompTIA certification. Next two weeks will be preparation for interviews and elevation pitch is next. It is difficult, especially, if one is new to tech. But it is doable.
I have a friend who just transitioned into a six-figure entry-level job using this certification and adding some prior tech support experience that was years ago. The company was hiring several individuals. He quit a six-figure job in Medicare sales to do the certification. Working 10 hours per day finish it in a week. In the past, any certification that I have done has always added value. Believe in yourself. Thank you for the value that you bring with your videos. He and his brother got hired at the same company. His brother was making 45,000 at his previous company, now both 95,000. If I did not see with my own eyes I probably would have had some doubt that it was possible. They started training this Oct 23, 2023. What a way to start off the new year. As for myself considering doing the cyber security or software testing.

Depends on why you're getting it. If you're getting it because you think it will get a job then you need to full stop. This is not meant to get you any type of IT work. These are just introduction into the IT space. If you are unsure about IT and you want some introductory information then a certificate course is fine (anyone can create a certificate course). They are more for your own personal encouragement. If you like material presented and if you think you want to take IT seriously as a career then after getting a certificate you should just jump right and get industry recognized certifications, which will actually be useful to your resume and can potentially find you work in entry IT. From there you can research more about your specific long term route. Again, do not get these thinking it's meant to get you a job.
I think security+ is on the way out. The only reason security+ is in demand is because of the DoD. Sec+ offers virtually no practical skills. It's almost all theory and doesn't really provide a person with the foundational skills they need to do the job. The fact that "portfolios" are becoming a thing for cybersecurity is one of the biggest tells that we're entering a paradigm shift in how certificates are viewed.
@@loyal1ty89 Bro. Stop smoking crack. I have no experience my self. However, I'm not retarded enough to think that a HR rep will look at my resume and go "Hmmmm OMG LOOK! Thanks for Excellent Review. Please Share some Sample Layouts and Good Examples of Resumes for Someone transitioning to CyberSec field from another domains. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and recommendations.
Hey Nicole , so would you recomend getting the Certificate before the degree ? I would also like to work towards getting the degree as well and wanted to know your opinion on that . Thanks
She sort of answered this in the video comparing the course to a degree. I say do both! Coursera is super affordable and the course is short. It'll be a good primer and a jumpstart on your coursework. I'm doing the same thing, and when a new subject comes up in class that I've already worked with in Coursera it's really satisfying.
As a review, this feels like a massive conflict of interest, seeing where the video is being paid for by the site hosting the course. So just be aware when taking advice from this video.
also suggest tO BE AWARE that coursera has been hacked and am a victim on it ,is a problem is been for 4 years and coursera team is not doing anything abt it
Hi Nicole! I may have missed it but does this course require any prerequisites or previous knowledge in Python, Linux, and other of the languages/ programs in it? Thanks!!!! Awesome video! Subscribed!!!!!
It does not. I have used python and linux for years. My experience was a detriment to completing the labs because they require you to follow the steps exactly as laid out. For the labs I had less experience in (SQL - I know it, but not as well as the other two), I found it much "easier". I was able to finish the course in a couple of days working about 4-8 hours a day depending on my work load. The videos were not particularly helpful for me. Instead, I read the text for almost all of them. That cut down the time dramatically. There are a few videos that have on screen demonstrations that are worthwhile, but you can watch those at an increased rate to save time. I personally completed every lab except for two - two of the linux labs. I did not do the portfolio work as I am working on my own already. However, if I were to have done the portfolio work as it was laid out, it would have taken me about two extra days of time. If you are a complete beginner with anything related to computers, it will probably take a bit of time to complete. If you're not a beginner, you can complete the entire thing pretty quickly. It will take more time if you have a job than if you do not.

I’ve never taken a Google course on Coursera. How is the training formatted? I ask this, because there are multiple videos from this actual Google CyberSecurity program on RUclips already. Google has them already on RUclips. So during the course in Coursera are you getting multiple frequent quizzes during each hour/hour 1/2 video, or is there just one larger quiz at the end of each hour/hour 1/2 video course section?? I know there are multiple different trainers. One for each different subject or topic being taught. I’m just confused on how often there are multiple refresher quizzes, during each teachers subject/topic or just one larger quiz after each different teacher is done with their subject/topic?? Just kinda want to prepare or game plan as to what to expect from how the course is structured. Also how the information is taught for information retention purposes. I don’t want to just pass a test. I want to actually learn something and have/get some hands on experience. I’d prefer the multiple smaller quizzes within each section for information retention purposes. 🤷♂️
You sign up. Each week you are given videos to watch and study. Then given a quiz, and lab at the end of week. Everything is online and done from your computer.
what about if your 48 years old and want to switch careers? i've heard of ageism before and im sure in the tech world its impossible for a 48 year old with a cyber security cert from google will get a job making 75k to start or even get hired.
How hard is it to get a cybersecurity job because I learned full stack web development and it’s hard to get a job. Which is easier in terms of getting a job?
Is it possible to get a job without any other certificates but coursera certificates? I’m working on the cybersecurity and IT certificates for fun cuz my main career goal is data science and I have software dev job experience.
Will this help or be enough to get into a cybersec internship? I dont have any other certifications, and Im a junior in college. I am starting to study for the security +.
It's not a certification, It's a certificate and no it's not better than Sec+ This is like an introduction, it's not meant to get a job, nore is any certification by itself really (arguably). The only certification that is really aimed at employment is the A+. Cyber security is not something you can just jump into, which is why these certificates are misleading, Cybersec takes years of experience and learning to build up to. I would recommend that you go get your A+ first so that you can get into entry IT then from there you can continue to obtain certifications while you gain experience and network with people and figure out your long term path.
if you complete google cert you'll get a kickstart to sec+ and 30% from exam fee. i would say don't go A+, rather than attain the knowledge of those through avail online study materials and these entry level cert cost you an arm and a leg. if you're looking on to defence attain the knowledge from a+ and net+ and go for sec+ or if you're into offsec same as i earlier said get the knowledge from all thosed three a+, net+, sec+ and do some CTF(HTB or THM) or bug bounty and get some hand-on-experiance, then clear pentest+ and go for OSCP you can figure it out in your own way, this is totally my opinion
@@dilraj6911 to summarize, study the material thats covered in a+ and net+ and sec+ but actually just educate yourself enough for the final sec+ cert. ? Then grind on ctfs and potential bug bounties to get more experience for the oscp for a couple solid certs? Not trying to cut corners, I just know theres lots of certs that may help but arent staying very relevant. Thanks
@@--Morpheus-- FYI, A+, net+, sec+, these all are basics of cyber security. Whether you go onto offsec or defense, if you study these basis it will be more helpful for you throughout your cyber security career. Ofc you can skip those and jump onto your exact learning path which will be pen tester, analyst, architect and more.. The more you work on basics , more strong will be your base on cyber security PS: Again all these are my personalized opinions and the one i followed to get into this cybersec

You can definitely get an entry level job after this course along with comp s+
Well that's exactly how it's currently being marketed so many people will find out soon if it's true.
If you add this course with security+ and develop your skills on python, SQL and or coding
@@loyal1ty89 Bro. Stop smoking crack. I have no experience my self. However, I'm not retarded enough to think that a HR rep will look at my resume and go "Hmmmm OMG LOOK! A google certificate" "higher him now!!" LMFAO. Bro, you will get passed up so fast for people with REAL qualifications. You think you are the only on in a interview room?
You are the 🐐!! You explained this so clearly and well!!!
I begin my journey today. I’m going to start this course and begin my prerequisites in Sophia to transfer to WGU 🙌
Thanks for mentioning the part where people just run through these courses without digesting anything.
Love your content! Keep up the awesome videos!
I'm not sure. If this certificate was any good, wouldn't Google themselves be hiring graduates of this Cyber security program to work at Google?
Thoughts?
I thought the same thing. From what I see, it's really for beginners.
The course is all about how you can defend your systems from unauthorized people as she said if you wanna be ethical hacker it's not for you. But, it will be worth for you guys wanna know more knowledge and how defender think also defend their systems
I have completed it May 24th....! Nice course!
I've already passed the certification too, but where do I get the discount voucher for Comptia Sec+ exam? they say they would give the voucher for graduate this course
A new Miscrosoft CyberSecurity certificate is around the corner....
Can we have a video which compares all 3 --> IBM, Google, Microsoft
Hello, could you please link the free cybersecurity project list?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the video I will be taking the course soon
Thank you for your advice! We appreciate it!
I’m on the last course right now. Probably be done by the end of the week.
Hi Nicole! Can you also make a review about Microsoft Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate course in coursera? How is it different from the Google Cybersecurity cert. Thank you in advance!
I am almost done with this certificate I am on course 7 learning to Automate tasks with python ☺️.
Thanks for Excellent Review. Please Share some Sample Layouts and Good Examples of Resumes for Someone transitioning to CyberSec field from another domains.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and recommendations.
I'm at 6 chapter of Google Cyber Security at Coursera
Awesome, can't wait to take this
I am so happy to find your channel
Hey Nicole , so would you recomend getting the Certificate before the degree ? I would also like to work towards getting the degree as well and wanted to know your opinion on that . Thanks
She sort of answered this in the video comparing the course to a degree. I say do both! Coursera is super affordable and the course is short. It'll be a good primer and a jumpstart on your coursework.
I'm doing the same thing, and when a new subject comes up in class that I've already worked with in Coursera it's really satisfying.
@@SonoSage oh ok you already completed the certification and going for the degree?
Hi, I appreciate your content. What path do you recommend for complete beginners? Prior to taking these courses, thank you!
The triad is nice for beginners but Sec+ is good with this certificate
A+, net+, (GSec)+(Sec+)
Congrats young lady!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Just got into the linux lab section. I wish I had a video to follow for that section or something I kept getting errors and gave up.
As a review, this feels like a massive conflict of interest, seeing where the video is being paid for by the site hosting the course. So just be aware when taking advice from this video.
Thank you so much I've been looking at this!
No problem!!
also suggest tO BE AWARE that coursera has been hacked and am a victim on it ,is a problem is been for 4 years and coursera team is not doing anything abt it
meanwhile i'm over because I'm stuck cuz i can't continue cuz my coursera free trial has ended 😪
That have a financial aid service
Google cybersecurity vs the new Cisco CCST cybersecurity. Which one do you think is more valuable? I'm really trying to debate between the two.
It will take more time if you have a job than if you do not.
no
@@RyanPMcGowan Thank you so much for such a thorough and educational comment!! I truly appreciate the insight as well! I'm an up-and-coming coder and with the a specific goal to get into Cybersecurity so I welcome all insights, advice, recommendations and more!
Your videos are very informative and helpful especially for those of us trying to get into tech.
I was wondering what are your thoughts on Artificial intelligence and will it affect cyber security.
Thank you
I am trying to get into cloud security. Do you think this certificate would be helpful?
Thank you Nicole!
I just finished this certificate. Hope it is at least a resume perk (I’m in software development).
Thank you for this video. Any resources I can use to learn how to include the skills learned through certs on the Resume? I have been in an MSP, but I'm focusing on 2 sec certs and one Azure security cert. Thank you.
I recently finished the course, I am wanting to do the security + (601) Comptia TEST. How accurate is the course compared to the test. Will the test have everything that was mentioned in the course?
Did you receive a certificate from Googlev
after completion? is it a free certification?
Thank you for the info, that was nice
I started cybersecurity because of you thank you so much I have a question is the AI is going take or replace us you have experience and only some one like you can predict base on his experience thank you
Whats your day job? Do you help with resumes and/or job placement?
Im a plumber by trade looking to make a career change. Its not the work I like what I do but Im lookig for a skill I can travel around the world and still make money.
Thanks! You rock as always. :) You are always so good at explaining stuff.
Thank you!!
2:18 Me too. I went through the whole course and finished it a year and a half ago, but didn't do the capstone project and decided not to pursue that career. I've been lost about what to do since then and lately, I've been searching about this new Cybersecurity but I'm afraid it is going to be another frustration.
I have a mentorship you can join :) upskilltocyber.com
I’m working on the cybersecurity and IT certificates for fun cuz my main career goal is data science and I have software dev job experience.
good luck getting this question answered. Its like a mystery finding the answer..
I’m going to just assume the answer is no. Maybe I am wrong. I have never seen a yes.
Will this help or be enough to get into a cybersec internship? I dont have any other certifications, and Im a junior in college. I am starting to study for the security +.
Hi Nicole Do you think Google's Cybersecirity cert is enough for employers or is it better to get comptia security+ cert after getting Google's?
It's not a certification, It's a certificate and no it's not better than Sec+
This is like an introduction, it's not meant to get a job, nore is any certification by itself really (arguably). The only certification that is really aimed at employment is the A+.
Cyber security is not something you can just jump into, which is why these certificates are misleading, Cybersec takes years of experience and learning to build up to.
I would recommend that you go get your A+ first so that you can get into entry IT then from there you can continue to obtain certifications while you gain experience and network with people and figure out your long term path.
if you complete google cert you'll get a kickstart to sec+ and 30% from exam fee. i would say don't go A+, rather than attain the knowledge of those through avail online study materials and these entry level cert cost you an arm and a leg. if you're looking on to defence attain the knowledge from a+ and net+ and go for sec+ or if you're into offsec same as i earlier said get the knowledge from all thosed three a+, net+, sec+ and do some CTF(HTB or THM) or bug bounty and get some hand-on-experiance, then clear pentest+ and go for OSCP
you can figure it out in your own way, this is totally my opinion
The more you work on basics , more strong will be your base on cyber security
PS: Again all these are my personalized opinions and the one i followed to get into this cybersec
@@dilraj6911 It's definitely not an "arm and a leg" I got coursera for $200 for a year, i can do as many certificates as I can finish.
i think in my case that associated degree at IT field + this course can be a good base to work as a cybersecurity analyst Jr
I love this thank you
You’re welcome 😊
I'm new to all this and was told that I should be learning about IT and getting a job in Help Desk role before even learning about Cybersecurity. Does this sound accurate?
Eh, that advice is outdated. At one point, it would have been good
@@nicoleenesse OK so what is a beginner supposed to do? I don't want to go to university.
@@Shannon_Robbie Get your Security+ certification.
How does it compare to the Microsoft Cyber security Professional course also on Coursera?
I'm currently enrolled on the the certificate course but the problem I have now is the funding , 50$ is quite hard to get in my country
You can apply for financial aid. Where I heard it is super easy to get.
Just finished it. It's very basic and way too much fluff
Starting the 5th course tomorrow
After obtaining Google certification, what is the next step?
Bigger question is how much they paid u to do the review ?
I’m interested in non tech cyber security roles. What would be a good path to take in obtaining a job in this field?
I have zero knowledge or experience in cybersecurity, Will this certificate learn me enough to find job and start career in this area?
I finished the certificate and the 30% off of CompTIA Sec+ didn’t work is there a fix for this?
How is the learning experience for non beginners ? Is it worh the time spent?
Does this cert touches a little bit of the cloud?
Would anyone recommend a beginner take the IT support course first? I really want to do cybersecurity. I'm really interested.
Thank you
was the program easy or moderate? im thinking about it tho
So the course is $49 per month. Not bad.
Where is the projects
When im trying to register its showing as paid content from SLA is it free of cost or?
Those i learn everyday in google cybersecurity class i want i practice these lesson but i don't understand how i do it. Can you help me?
So is it worth or not ?
I know you but I dont know where from.
So you can’t get a job with this certification?
May I know what are you currently doing?
Nicole, who, or what, do you recommend as the best form of tutoring to get my Security + cert.? Also, what other certs do you recommend for someone who's in college for their bachelors in cybersecurity? Thanks!
McDonald's certification is best as your backup
Just wonder, if I already passed Sec+ and CySA+, do I still need this cert? Many thanks!
How long did it take you pass each of those exams? Has it been a struggle to find security jobs even with those certificates?
It would be a waste of time. From what I read companies only accept Sec+
