You forgot the most important thing that people do wrong when holding the pads.
Don't tuck your thumbs in when holding them. Keep the thumb outwards and tuck four fingers in. Cool vid

Great instruction! How do you recommend holding Thai Pads for knees if you're not using a belly pad?

build a 90° angle with the pads (like a T). One straight on your belly for cushioning, and the second on top of it. This way the knee comes in the pocket and you protect your abs
