My parents had this on VHS. It was my biggest influence in wanting to learn more about comedy. Man, as a seven year old I didn't even get most of the references, especially to Pryor, Martin et al in the first scene. But it made me seek and learn. Thanks Lenny. Someone PLEASE get this released on DVD or online so it can be seen again!
@MrSeanbrightman I just bought it on VHS for my sister for XMAS we loved this as kids......(if your in the states theres one going on VHS too on Amazon)...then take it to your local TV/HI-FI centre and they can convert it to DVD for you..thats what im going to do..this has to be kept alive! Merry Xmas!
IMHO, this is the best thing Lenny Henry ever did and thanks for uploading it. If I were you I would change the video title to something like "Steve Martin and Richard Pryor impressions by Lenny Henry" that way more people can find this hidden gem. (The fact that it's the intro to "Live and Unleashed" is only secondary information.) Maybe also change the thumbnail to a shot of Steve Martin? I really think more people should see this!
Oh man, I don't suppose you can post the rest of this somewhere?!? I used to love this... Theopolis P Wildebeeste, Delbert, but my absolute FAVOURITE was Dirty Low Down Houndog... Smith!! (Woke up one mornin'.. lyin' face down on the floor... saw my woman in bed makin' love... to the ugly guy from next door!")
a perfect example of why it's not offensive to black up (however un-PC it might be now), is because it's not offensive to WHITE up. i first saw this years ago when i was a teenager, and maybe that has something to do with it, but it never crossed my mind back then, it was just a funny impression of steve martin. sorry to get all serious there!
Wrong, Lenny whitening up was done with respect he actually really looks white, the makeup team was amazing. When people black up they just cover their face in oil, put on a stupid wig and lipstick all over their lips. If blacking up was done with as much effort as Lenny did, there wouldnt be an issue
@@theone3662 Yeah, you're right. I'd forgotten I wrote this 11 years ago. Like I said, I first saw this as a teenager, when my opinions were essentially worthless. Clearly I hadn't evolved much when I wrote that comment. I suppose that's why nobody complained when Harry Enfield made a character out of Nelson Mandela. He made the effort, and the whole thing was so surreal, the joke was not about blacking up, but an extreme send up of celebrity endorsements.

Thanks for uploading this. Used to have it on VHS... haven't seen it in years. LOVE it.

I'm guessing the last impression was Eddie Murphy xD lol.
@wattsenigma I guess so, in sections. May well do that.
Wait is that not Steve Martin? Dammmmmn... Am I face blind, missing something, or is that the work of a great makeup department?
Pear Head That's makeup.
His film True Identity from the 90s by Touchstone is a great example of the same effects, but film around it!
@PeterZeeke Butch was with a lady dog. And he was gettin' it on, Butch was gettin' it on!"
This is so freaky I know it is Lenny the make up and voice are good but wow is something
lenny used to be talented and funny then..
