One of the things that i have heard a lot from drummers learning Neil's work is "damn this is tough but so much fun" it shows me that Neil really loved his instrument and found challenge's delightful and fulfilling thus every piece was a masterpiece. I think Neil would just be grinning ear to ear knowing she had this much fun with this song.
This is someone who is phenomenally talented, incredibly practiced, but who just LOVES doing it too. Rare glimpse at an artist loving to play. That moment at the end when her tongue comes out and she’s going for it is ALL OF US when we play new music. This is why all of us do it. VIBE.
The performance from this lady is incredibly impressive. I've watched this performance a dozen times. I'd love to have those drumsticks, a sign from the drumming-gods!!
Sometimes you just have to put the metronome aside and just play on how the music makes you feel. She nailed it. She definitely has a great sense for feeling the music.
I grew up in Ireland and never heard a single Rush song, even though I was always into music and even played bass in a band for a while. Then about 5 years ago I happened upon a video of a girl playing a bass cover to a strange song called YYZ. That was my introduction to the Rush rabbit hole, and I haven't left the burrow since.
RUclips is full of music fans and even drummers who never heard of Rush until recently. Andrew Rooney is one of them that comes to mind. Never got radio play in New Zealand
This was my introduction to this song as well, and wow! I definitely gotta do a Rush deep dive. I'd heard of them, but didn't grow up with classic rock. Can't stop listening to Limelight on repeat, it's too good!
Rush came about in a time when bands released a new album nearly every year and toured behind it from anywhere between 3-4 months to 6 months or a year. If Rush is introduced to a younger audience it’s going to be through their parents, siblings, friends but most likely here RUclips or other relevant social media platforms.🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎤🎹
To all those that can't believe she's never heard it before. Well then she has just proved herself to be a great actress as well! Seriously, you're nuts. She grew up in a different country focusing on different musical styles. Are you certain that you would be familiar what whatever music she finds iconic?
That song had a certain feel that someone with a musical brain like her can pick up on. Some parts just felt necessary like the 6/4 feel kind of demanded a certain bass/snare pattern and she felt it right away. Just a great song and I’m gonna have to look up Mars Volta
gotta give just a little love to the Ged - he lays down some pretty good rhythm on the bass/vocals - that's gotta help a little (learning bass myself - so I'm biased - these vids keep me inspired to keep practicing at a 'late' age -mid 40s). But what an amazing drummer! I'm definitely going to be adding Mars Volta to my playlist!
I've never heard a single rush song, I'm about her age. At some point there's just so much out there, especially if it's from a different era or different scene than you're into.
My three favorite people since 1981. I love Rush. I heard of her band, I just never dug into it. I think I'll check into them. Especially with John Frusciante. My old high school friend. She seems rad. I love women drummers. Karen Carpenter was so awesome. Rock on people!!! ❤❤❤
Rush kind of has three different phases if you’re going to deep dive. They started out more prog rock/hard rock, then started adding a lot of synths in phase two, and got more slick, phase three they got more raw again.
@RY30DM I'm talking about The Mars Volta. I have not really took the time to listen to any of their stuff over the years. Rush, on the other hand, has been the soundtrack of my life for 43 years.
Well she's been drummer of mars Volta for just a few years, but you should check out the band, it's really good. My favorite album is Da loused at the commatorium.
Great mention of Karen!! So many know her for her voice, but she was an EXCEPTIONAL drummer!! Old videos of her behind the kit, she looks completely at home!
This was really incredible and I have to say of all the people that could do this Drumeo challenge well with Rush it would be a Mars Volta drummer. Super cool.
I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND of this video when I watched it yesterday. She was awesome! Your video was ok too, Colby 😜 lol j/k. I always love watching your videos 🤘
Aldi's Rush fans doubting that she is unfamiliar with this song, how many of the hip hop drum artist influences that she grew up with have they heard of???
She's from Europe and while Rush does have its fan base there, it's not nearly as popular as in the States and Canada. That's why it's possible that she never heard them
Pretty sure she heard them since she has Neil's signature sticks at home, but not like studied them precisely. It's wild though, even if you don't remember the music and the drum parts, Geddy's voice is unique and instantly recognizable
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power sure, a professional rock drummer with years of experience, constant gigs and signature Peart sticks in her house never heard Peart play drums. Dude, come on.
@@levindeed I used to have a Jack DeJohnette china that I still, decades later, wish I never traded for whatever; I still remember thrbname, but don't think I've heard any of his projects to date 😂 Yes, it's possible to have signature gear and not know the body of work.
I've only seen a couple of Drumeo's videos & get the feeling they have the stock kit, that a drummer comes in & has to memorize the layout of & frick, she did a awesome job. I suspect I could kill a lot of time (I don't have to spare, haha) on their site - Chaka Khans drummer had "Jerry was a race car" driver by Primus which was also pretty dam good....
It’s possible if she grew up in Germany. She doesn’t look old enough to have been a youngun listening to it. And let’s face it… a lot of girls skipped Rush.
It completely makes sense to me and I’m 53. Kids aren’t getting music from the radio anymore. They discover it from TikTok, for example, or if a song is featured on a show like Stranger Things, for example. Máster of Puppets got a massive bump after it was featured on Stranger Things.
She’s a classically trained orchestral percussionist and daughter of an opera singer and then went into jazz, Rush probably wasn’t on her playlist at all.
I've been a rock and metal head since I was 10 and I heard Rush for the first time when I was like 22 or something. I don't understand why people are so obsessed with their sacred cows. And especially since Neil was a low-key humble man who wouldn't give a fuck about being not known by somebody. And on top of that, she did a phenomenal job. I don't give a fuck if a person doesn't know any of my favourite bands. I discovered Death at 29 and Nevermore at 31. I'm 34 now and they are my favourite bands.

Many of us fled Rush because we couldn't stand the singer's voice (and we never cared to know what his name is). So, no, we didn't know Limelight either, but were happy to discover its amazing drums and the super job done by Philo - so much so that we agreed to endure that terrible voice.

I don't believe for one second this person never heard Rush before. Also, not a very good interpretation. Got a cool nose ring though, I'll give them that.
I’m not buying this whole “Hearing Rush for the first time” garbage. Being a drummer, a rock drummer or a student of percussion and never hearing Neal Peart or Rush play is just not possible/believable to me. I guess it makes for a better/more impressive video saying this is the first time hearing it and then going out and playing well with it/to it.
A couple of things, first off she’s German. I don’t know how popular they are over there. Secondly, if you’ve ever been to a Rush show (been twice) it’s a bit of a sausage party. Woman do not like Rush.
As someone else pointed out "She’s a classically trained orchestral percussionist and daughter of an opera singer and then went into jazz" also she's German, and not unfamiliar with Neil, just hasn't heard all his music. Maybe what you buy or don't doesn't matter. Whether it's believable to you only means anything to YOU, trust me, no one else gives two shits about your opinion on anything.
Same here. I think the Drumeo guys, as awesome as they are, approach it as a show. Nothing to do with Germany. I am German musician and I know Rush since about 1980. It might be a generation thing, if anything.
A young, gorl, from opera and Jazz background.. missing Rush totally plausible. I’m American and grew up in Led Zeppelin, Rush, etc. I had never heard of King Crimson which is a huge band in prog rock. I’m 50 years old and just learned of them this year. Had no clue. But they’re huge.
