If you are surrounded by another culture, foreign country or something from your own country, you should be polite no matter what! ...well, unless your guide says that you're supposed to act like an ass. I've never had a chance to visit, but on international trips, I've seen groups of japanese business men, and I'll usually keep an eye on them. They're very interesting, and there's a lot of respect that just oozes off of them. I make sure not to disturb them, as I watch people all the time to learn about them.
I'd love to learn more about the japanese culture if I ever get the time, however, I will say that I personally have a lot of respect for what I've seen from your people thus far.
