- The Cessna 414 was a game changer in 1975. It appealed to a lot of twin-engine plane owners who wanted a pressurized cabin. This plane is perfect when you want to transport many people fast. The Cessna 414 has got to be one of the best-looking aircrafts Ever. I absolutely love the nose design and circular windows of this bird.
Cessna produced the 414 with two Continental 310 HP engines mounted on each wing. It can carry up to 10 people and can store a lot of baggage in the nose. This aircraft is also single pilot operated, so you don't need two people to fly it. Here are some quick specs on the Cessna 414 Chancellor.
Cessna 414
Capacity: 10 people
Engine: Continental 310 HP (Twin-Engine)
Range: 750 miles

That “black tape” on the leading edges isn’t tape. They’re rubber boots that inflate ever so slightly to break the ice apart when it accumulates on the leading edges.
Yep, hard to believe this guy, who is supposedly an aircraft enthusiast, wouldn't know that
@@stanleymasterson1135 He is not a multi engine guy . He is simply trying to expose , non aviators , to the world of GA .
I remember when the 414 1st came out. You mis-identified the taxi light as the landing light. The main landing lights are retractable, located just inboard of the tip tanks. You failed to mention the wing-locker storage, located just aft of the engines. These engines are turbocharged so the aircraft can get to 20-25,000 ft with no problem. These aircraft were not air conditioned. That came 10 years, or so, later. The main tanks held 50 gal each and the aux tanks held 15 gal each. The aircraft you showed was in "corporate configuration". That curved 'seat' was the potty. The 'boots' on the leading edge of the wings are a dead giveaway for de-icing equipment. Probably had them on the vertical as well as the horizontal fins, too. FYI-I'll be 70 in January and have been a pilot since I was 18 years old.
@12:39 on the left it shows the A/C controls.
He's right about the good looks of the Cessna 4 series twins. Best looking twins ever built if you ask me.
A guy in my EAA chapter has one of these. He just got both of the engines overhauled along with some work done on the gear. He brought 6 of us to lunch the other weekend in it and boy was she thirsty. I was sitting right seat and I swear I could see the fuel gauges going down just from a glance. Over 100lbs of fuel for just a 20min flight.
I asked him why he bought it, guessing he used to do a lot of cross country with it for work. He said no that he bought it so his son could get twin time while he was still training to get into the airlines.
Spent lots of time flying a 414 back in the day. Very good airplane that was overshadowed by the 421. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Love the passion. It's OK if everything isn't perfect in all your videos. Gives people with a lot of extra time to provide corrections. Have fun and don't ever forget how much enjoyment their is burning a hole in the sky with a single engine plane.
Piston twins are being replaced by single engine turboprops. Nice looking aircraft overall I wish I could afford one
Tell it to da62 )))
me too... I have 60 hrs. in a 421...One heck of a powerhouse but very unforgiving...
I wish you would come by my house and watch how they follow and fly over my home every fukn day and then see if you would be so enthusiastic about airplanes pilots and everything associated with them a week with me and it will wipe that stoopid azz grin off your face and bring you to reality
@@jettelo if the airport was already built before you moved into your house. then you have no one to blame but yourself
In Alabama. They can't get close because iama a great shot so they have no other choice
Just an FYI...ALL 414s are turbocharged. Any pressurized piston airplane is going to be turbocharged. The pressurization system is ran from bleed air from the turbos. “Analog screens?” Hmmm
You are the only one doing videos with interiors etc shown as well. Which is really important for me
oh man that interior is great. I love the blue-green overstuffed seats
Its a nostalgic throwback to the 70's but the color is disgusting.
Simply beautiful. I used to look at these in Flying magazine back in the day and wish.
Every time I hear one flying high overhead, it reminds me of my childhood and backyard barbecue parties with friends long gone or lost. Basically a sound of the past.
Glad to see you doing this type of video again
As always Mike a great review. This plane seems to have had an interior and exterior refresh in the mid-1980's.
What a great expose on a dying breed of planes! Thank you for this great video!
I love this and the 310, so perfect for what they do.
Regarding air conditioning on the aircraft you’re reviewing. Although you “highly doubt” it has this feature, in addition to the fresh air eyeball-style vents overhead, there are several rectangular vents. At 12:45 in the video you can see on the lower instrument panel (“dash”? Really?) inboard of the left yoke, a three-position switch labeled “Air Condition”, with the positions of FAN, OFF, and A/C. This settles that question.
Had a friend take me up in his Cessna yesterday, now I've got to get my own license!
Yes I remember the 414 Chancellor !!! A very nice plane indeed !! I like your explanation of the Airplane, Good job Sir !!!
My dream machine. Keep up the great work.
Get me in touch with the owner and if he/she wants to sell, my IA and myself will be pre buying that bird in a week!
It needs to stay exactly how it is.
Wow Mike this is a great plane, never saw one or heard of. Fuel consumption? I love it . Ratings needed ?
Nice find Mike. And if it’s a 75 model that would make it 45 yrs old. But when it comes to planes, no big deal. This thing is sweet.
Never fly into icing conditions. De/ice and Anti Icing are meant to get you out of a situation.
Good tour. Was surprised you didn't mention the toilet (I think its negative pressure too).
I've flown right seat in one of these redone by Legends in South Carolina. What a great experience. The plane was gorgeous inside and out. Big, comfortable, relaxing. I can't imagine liking a plane more. A short nose redone 414 can be had in the 300K range. No one needs to explain to me why they buy one of these. It only uses fuel in the air, amortization is 24/7/365.
Dying breed, don’t tell that to “The Twin Cessna Flyer” owners group. A lot cheaper to buy than a Cirrus, and you can actually load it up. That $500,000 you save buys a lot of gas, maintenance, upgrades, etc. All 414’s are turbocharged by the way….
Every pressurized piston twin is turbocharged. If you weren’t going to the higher altitudes you didn’t need pressurization. The cabin is pressurized by...the turbochargers. A small quantity of the turbo’s air (“bleed air”) is pumped into the cabin. Go research the Cessna 401, 402, and 421 and you’ll see where the 414 fits in.
Makes sense. Thanks.
Ooh Mike. Made my heart jumping. So nice is she. Any suggestions how much;)?
TWIN ENGINES ARE MY FAVORITE PLANES SEEN THEM BEFORE AT AIRSHOWS
Thank You, Mike.
Comments:
1. That back mini seat is the toilet. You pull the cushion up and its there.
2. It had an NSD 360 in the panel, which makes it not too old. Also has a stormscope, which is 1990s or better.
3. Air conditioner switch was left under pilot. Pressurized aircraft had to have A/C, since the bleed air from the turbo is HOT, you need to cool it down before putting it into the cabin.
4. This airplane is losing value fast being parked outside.
Thanks for this. The round windows I believe says that the aircraft is pressurised ( remember the comet)
I eventually would like to get a 414A. but these are beautiful aircraft.
Love twin Cessnas. Got my multi engine rating in a 310.
Not the most friendly twin to train in for the multi-engine rating. Congrats!
@@EJWash57 I got my Commercial cert/Instrument rating at Spartan School of Aeronautics in 1991. They were using wimpy little Beech Duchess' for multi engine training. I wanted something with a little more meat, there was a school at Riverside Airport with a 1968 310J, so I went there. Challenging, but an absolute blast to fly.
@@bobcole612 Correct me if I'm wrong, but the C-310R held the record for the fastest light twin, followed by the Aerostar. Although, it's always been said that double the engine, double the headache - maintenance-wise.
Mike most pressurized planes are turbo/super charged. (They need need extra air to pump into cabin).
And have AC :)
It needs a hangar
And a polish / wax job , it would look like new..............
That interior is lovely. I'm talking about seats 8 + 2 Business.
I wish I could maintain one they are so beautiful. I think I'm counting seven windows on each side, not counting the windshield
The Cessna 4 series are great aircraft, my favourite is the 412c the engines have reputation for being fragile though
beautiful machine !!!
Love your show man
This is a very cool video, I love airplanes
you can tell its turbocharged by the single large exhaust tailpipe, and the smaller wastegate pipe coming out the bottom of the nacelle
I wouldn't necessarily call it my "dream plane," but the 414A ticks many boxes.
With the super high cost of even70 year old private aircraft, the super high cost of fuel, and insurance, the entire private aircraft industry is a dying breed. Why is this? Even back in the 60's could rent a Piper Cub using tach time for 4 bucks an hour and that included everything, Cessna 150 with an engine starter, heater, and a radio was a buck more for an hour of tach time. Could carry three passengers in a Piper or Cessna for 7 bucks an hour. Today will cost over 150 bucks just to warm up the aircraft and taxi to the runway.
Has a pressurized piston powered airplane ever been built without turbochargers?
She's a old tired girl. Shes been sitting there soaking up all that sun for a minute.
Hi Mike, what was the gas smell in the fuselage? Needs a polish on the paint.
1. Has it the minimum NAV improvement.
🇦🇺🌏
At 9:43 it looks like a mobile phone integrated into the panel. In 1993 this interior would have been the shiz.
I didn't know you could get a Pioneer deck and Alpine 6 disc changer approved for a certified aircraft.
Beautiful plane..
Would that thing work with those diesel engines? Might be worth a feasibility study.
Unfortunately, you cannot just retrofit whatever engine you want…
@@Finder245 Study. Not haphazardly install.
@@garywi.9299 the issue is that you are not allowed to modify a certificated aircraft that way. You could get the engine certified and then get an STC, but that requires more work than what you would want to do for a single aircraft. The other option would be to convert it to experimental exhibition category, but that has a lot more restrictions than the experimental amateur built category. You would be limited to flying the plane for proficiency and to events…. Otherwise, yes, I would also be very interested in picking one up and making a bunch of upgrades.
Neat, even in Miami Hurricanes colors.
They were competition to the Navajos from Piper.
Bela aeronave. Cessna maravilhosa. SBSL
How much it does look in very good shape
A great Progect!... 🤣🤣🤣... Thanks!
So is this bird abandoned? How were you able to get inside of it without being hassled by airport staff?
The shop who has it gave access. Owner of the aircraft had gotten ill and just left the plane with them.
Nice!
beautiful acft
Surprise. Even in the US maintenance and fuel require an own oil source. In Europe, twin engines are just not making economical sense
They don’t really make much sense anywhere until you lose an engine in IMC.
They are way past their “use by date” unfortunately they are becoming too expensive to maintain making them redundant.
If you want to see a beautiful 414, go to Chrisophe Jouany's channel. I think he has since sold it but he did a phenomenal job of refurbishing it.
"It's got that old plane smell"
Thought this was a Just Plane Silly ad! Lol
In case of a crash landing I don't want to have huge mirrors all around 😅
fuel??
It's a gorgeous plane!!!!!!
I'd buy one in a heart beat.
Certialy would. You are getting a lot of plane for you money.
Doesn’t Cape Air fly these?
90s Taco Bell paint job lol
Good cargo plane
Those boots are thirsty! 🙈
Hey Mojo, I want to try to stump you. Without looking it up on Google, tell me what a Cessna 620 was, and the Skyhook.
A beautiful airplane. I wonder how long it has been left sitting. I would not want to contemplate how much it would cost to bring that up to running condition. Not just all the mechanical issues; but the avionics. Love those tables in the back, just picture them with a portable typewriter on them
❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful, but ....
Take a look on a Beechcraft Duke, same category.
The Duke uses a Baron wing, and sits low using a small diameter prop. It can’t transfer the 380 hp to thrust because of the small prop. I’ve flown the and they use lots of runway.
Say! Dota another, soga!
Request - Velocity XL-RG
Pressurized aircraft have rounded windows.
Not always...
@@braylenfab6523 -yeah the first Comet’s didn’t….
Looks like there's oil coming out of the right engine. Look below the engine!
The sun fad on the paint is showing age. needs a wash and rubbing compound treatment. The Cockpit is well maintained and clean.
I want a 414 or a 421
Sad. A twin outside on tie down. Boots are already on the way out because of UV.
The whole airplane is going to need *a lot* of TLC and some seriously in-depth inspection time to get it off the ground again. So sad to see a classic like this wasting away on the ramp.
Tied down outside, with no gust locks installed inside or out, and the fuel selectors still in the on position - I think the last pilot thought it was going inside, and that it was going flying again very soon when they shut it down. I'm not going flying in that one until it comes out of a fresh annual, and even then I'm going to be suspicious. Also, who steals the strut for the top half of the air-stair?
I love 414s, but with radar and air-conditioning, and that interior it's not going to have a lot of useful load - and not having any aux tanks gives it short legs - basically 2 hours plus reserves (about 400 miles). Ours was light, with no air-con, no radar and a lighter interior, and 40 gallons of auxiliary fuel. It could haul 7 passengers if at last one was small, on that 2 hour trip, or 5-6 people for 3.5 hours at economy cruise (180 knots) for about 700 miles.
When I was a kid, this was the common aircraft we saw buzzing overhead every single day. Hearing these was normal. Then one day they just stopped and we heard turbo props everywhere.
beatifull but expensive , im going to piper aztec
Pressurization requires turbos.
12:39 this bird Does have aircon
Hate to see it sitting outside!
first
Ok?
@@taijaunduncombe1106 dang i've never seen such pussies get offended over something so small like someone comment "first" on a video. smh
Ryan McKay I liked his comment. 🤷🏾♂️
Ryan McKay I liked his comment so....
Ryan right there some real pussies in this comment thread
100,000 to 450,000
The 414 should have never been built.
Why do you say that?
Mike
"rarely do you see now Cessna building these ....these strips are functional (Vortex generators).... black tape...Oval lookin' thing.... fuel probably goes in there..." do you actually fly? Do you know anything about these aircraft? This is amateur hour at its worst.
He doesn’t know much about airplanes, unfortunately. 🤷🏻♂️
Oooch! Be nice!
sigh
Problem is kill fuel burn is waste money fly away
I'm just here because I thought it would be funny to see... Mike has no clue about twins, any twins. Not rated. Never flown. No clue. And he is notorious for doing absolutely ZERO research. This should be entertaining.
I agree. At least if you’re are going to do an introductory video about a type of aircraft, at least do your research so can at least sound at the bare minimum that you know what you’re talking about. He was stumbling a bit while trying to compensate for what he didn’t know.
Yep
You could have used a cleaner aircraft.
