How are you supposed to put one of if not the greatest songs/metal compositions of all time into words? This track sucks you into a sonic sphere of a relentless hypnotic vortex seemingly leaving you in a state of paralysis/shock. I'm assuming Tomas Haake has an IQ of 228 as the mental gymnastics it must take to write, memorize and perform something that sounds like an alien language. Trying to wrap your head around what you are hearing and witnessing is exhausting let alone what if must be like to perform a track like this. Like I said in the reaction, Meshuggah F-N Wins
My favorite thing about Meshuggah is that their stuff is so dang technical but done in a way that has a 4/4 feel with that right-hand tempo just makes it able to follow. I think if they didn't have Tomas it wouldn't feel right. The guy is so dang good. I've tried to learn some of his stuff and I can only manage a few songs but none 100% somewhere they throw in something that is so dang intricate that you almost have to just close your eyes and count, which I hate doing, it's not the most fun way to play, I'm all about the feels. Tomas is an absolute BEAST.
@@tazzz1783 finally a compadre. Been asking 'Behold' since forever, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Seems like Orbit Culture is not on their radar anymore.
Keep in mind, this is a live recording and Tomas played the entire tour with a herniated disc. The repeated stink face isn't him trying to be "metal" for the crowd but because he's simply trying to play though the pain.
I do cycling, Meshuggah is what I listen when I want to give it 200%. It is strangely meditative. Going 40 mph while listening to the obzen album is quite a thrill.
They are the GOAT for what they are capable of. I saw them open for Tool and I was blown away. Been in awe and a little scared of the never since. But, I always come back to them. Ligature Marks is amazing
Great reaction! I know the drums is the star on this track but that bass and guitar completes it all and it does feel that the song is like a kind of pressure slowly crushing you. There are songs that sound eerie, there are songs that have a scary theme/tone but Bleed just makes you feel terrified - in a good way! The little pause isn't mainly for Haake but for everyone listening to Bleed. It gives us time for a breather but when the song picks up again we are ready and it's all the better.
When you find this song meditative or hypnotizing in some weird way, you just KNOW youre a metalhead and you have an awesome taste in music. Cheers you two 🤘😀
Thomas actually had to change the way he plays drums, to write and record this song. The key to this song is how relaxed your upper body is. The double kick is simply a slide technique, which can be sustained by using the kick pedal to bounce off of the batter head, meaning it’s all technique. Trust me when I say, I have to eat a banana during the bridge, to stop my calves from cramping. Now add to that the OTHER 90 minutes Thomas has to play other songs on their catalog! 🥵🥵🥵 The real bitch of it al is the tempo and time change that comes in after the bridge, then drops back into the original time signature, but not really! Insane!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼
you still think tomas haake is human? it was an experiment from a swedish university to create an ai that could play perfect like a metronome, the AI was fed on some thrash and motivated by some thrashy umea dudes and they created da geent du bob bob du bo ddjent djent jent ddddddjent djentdddjentjent
I saw a clip of Bill Burr talking about seeing these guys play this live, and just geeking out about the drumming. Haake's playing one tempo with his hands that the audience is tuned into, and another rhythm with his feet that the rest of the band is keyed into. It's crazy. Mad respect to the whole band.
Been saying for a couple years that no band comes through my headphones with more power than Meshuggah, with the exception of one. Distant-False God's Distant-Dawn of Corruption Funny you guys would call this meditative. You need to check out the official video for this song when you get a chance, not to mention look at the album cover for the album that Bleed came off of, which is called Obzen.
Funnily enough, there is a song they don’t play live because it is too intense. The song is ‘the devils name is surveillance’. Admittedly, I could be incorrect but from listening to the song it is chaos in the best sense. You should check it out
Guys, great reaction! I like how you picked up on stuff that other reaction channels haven't, like how the guitars and based are perfectly locked in to the groove of the bass drum or the "wave tones" that the guitars are making.
Bleed is about having an aneurysm essentially and while Thomas didnt have one learning this song, he did spent months(?) learning this song as the last on the album, as he didnt know if it was even feasible to play. Crazy.
I love all the comments about whether this the most complicated etc to play. I’d make the point the real skill is the creativity and originality displayed writing this stuff into songs that bang.
Check out the cover art for that album. OBZEN. For me, it represents this song in its entirety. Once you enter it. You enter into a meditation/hypnosis state. People need to react to the album song. Not the video or a live version. To truly appreciate every aspect of the song. The patterns, the riffs, vocals, etc.
Yup their music is definitely hypnotic. They’re “The Swedish Audio Drug” idk if they still sell it, but I bought a t shirt from them back in the mid-2000s that says that. I think it’s a perfect description of their music.
There is a separate video here on RUclips of the lighting guy, manually controlling/mashing the lights in rhythm to the music. He's finally the unsung hero of this performance.
A lot of people hate on them because their sound is repetitive but that's the whole point. Pure power and force. Makes me feel like I'm riding on top of a mile high tsunami and I'm watching it wipe out the human existence
Best metal drummer - Mario Duplantier Best prog metal drummer - Tomas Haake Best prog rock drummer - Neil Peart Best rock drummer - John Bonham Change my mind
I agree. I’ve just always felt that maybe by definition Haake is the best prog drummer, but Danny Carrey deserves almost a shared 1st place with Haake with his creativity
i love it how he's sitting there like another day at the office while the rest of us normal people are trying to wrap our heads around about what's happening there 🤪
Hard to go wrong with Meshuggah. For a different kind of relentlesness, you should check out Protest The Hero. Opening track from Fortress, called Bloodmeat, is incredible (that whole album is).
All hail Meshuggah! Not that the musicians are crazy tight and brutally skilled. In a live show like this there is another member in a way. The light artist. She plays tte keys on the light controller live. Each nlink is a finger clicking a key. Live in real time. Just so you know! Also its said to have taken Tomas Haake about 6 months to learn the drums on this song. Not just because it is technically hard. It takes stamina. Stay Metal! 🤘😎🤘
I'm guessing Alot of others on here have watched this song many many times...so I'm also guessing you watch alot of drummer reactions...if you havnt watched a drummer known as Darkside.from polish black metal band..MGLA...song is exercises in futility v....drum cam..check it out fkn amazing vid of him drumming .he's without doubt 1 of the best drummers out there .his cymbal work has become a thing of legend.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘..and cool reaction guys ..this song is insane with drum patterns
Hi, I would describe Bleed as if you find yourself getting brainwashed in the best way!! No, disrespect to MESSUGAH! They are the quintessential and undisputed Metal band that I have ever heard and that's the way I prefer my metal!!

Completely agree.
Welcome to the herta drum pattern ( on the kicks)..... AND it's 4/4 time

Seeing them live is a religious experience. Like being part of a tribe worshipping a group of alien overlords. Absolutely hypnotic and unforgettable
100%
I saw them in 2016, felt like I was put into a trance at some point during the set, mesmerizing!
That’s exactly what it’s like! 😂 Reassembling my brain for days after…!!!
You ain’t lying… those bass kicks hit different live 🤙🤙
It truly is life altering
Fully agree. It's incredibly suffocating and incredibly incredible. Just a wall of metal.

In regards to their newest album, two words. "Ligature Marks". Such a heavy groove. You won't be disappointed.
100% agree. although i would also have to add broken cog, phantoms, and kaleidoscope as some killer songs on the new album
Been hearing Ligature Marks on liquid metal. Solid track for sure
I've been bobbing my head to ligature marks since release, such a groovy track
also "I Am That Thirst"

That's interesting, because I do find this medidative and hypnotyzing, yet I'm into trance and techno!

Absolutely! This song isn't even close to difficult compared to many of their other songs but it sure takes it's toll on your calves 😅

Meshuggah is love, Meshuggah is life. I frequently use this song to fall asleep--it's so hypnotic and calming
"That was a serious spin cycle", lol you guys crack me up. I also happen to believe that Meshuggah is the heaviest band around IMHO.
Love you guys too death! Meshuggah - The Demon's Name Is Surveillance plz?
Phenomenal reaction to a phenomenal drummer in a phenomenal band.
Ps. I LOVE the shirt, buddy.

Sonic perfection. Calmly sitting within the eye of the storm. That's Meshuggah.
Love the genuine energy from you two.
One of the few reaction channels that I watch.
4:10 is the point where Carey was blown away as per Bill Burr.
This song is so technically intense, it gave me crippling back pain just from remaining tensed up.
Fan du groupe depuis 97 et pour moi ce morceau fais partie de la perfections ,merci pour vos réactions, J'adore
Just luv u guys great reaction!!!!!!
Your Shuggah reactions are the best!🔥🤘 Check out "Phantoms" from their newest album.
This is the most pure reaction to Meshuggah ive ever seen. Really captures that first time you hear a meshuggah song experience. 🤘

I was told that DANNY CAREY saw Tomas do this live and was in total awe of this

🥶
Saw them a couple weeks ago in Bristol UK.
It was brutal!!! Meshuggah Rules!!!
Haake, Super Mario, and Danny Carey.....setting the Standard!!!!
I adore watching people get confused that he plays 4/4 with his hands and 7/8 and 5/6 on his feet. Everyone gets stunned.
Well , it 's a thing that made danny carey mindblow so , we should be also ...
