I bought my wrangler used. Pretty much everything was stock on it The only thing on it was a 2.5 Inch Coil Spring Spacer lift kit. But everything else stock. I have more than enough clearance for 37 if I wanted. But I run 35's Should I keep the gear ratio stock on the Super Chip or up it to aquire the 35's I'm running. Still learning all this so help would be greatly appreciated. Just want to be sure if I up it using the Super Chip I won't ruin the stock gears
Got mine and returning it. Never worked correctly and will have to take it back to jeep dealer to restore and fix my odometer that has stopped working.
Awesome review. Just a heads up for tire size adjustment it's best to have a gps with you to get the most accurate reading. I have 33's on my jeep and when I set my super hips to 33 it read wrong speed by a little bit. I had to lower mine to 32 to get the most accurate speed. Just a heads up incase you haven't tried that yet
That's an awesome point and I should have mentioned it in the video. We set our last jeep at 34.75. The tuner sets true height, which is always a little bit off from the actual tire size. You can actually research true diameter by brand online to see what you should set. Thanks for the comment!!! 👍🏼👌🏼
+Moisty I didn't have what crawl tv is talking about but the way I figured out my tire size true height was I used a normal gps and kept adjusting my tire size til my speedo and mph on gps matched took only 3 trys. the only reason I did that is because even true tire size varies due to the fact how much psi you run in your tires how much weight ur vehicle is... for example two door or 4 door heavy bumper winch all that add up to slightly changing the tires a lil bit
Reminds me of the early 80's. 1982, open beer in the car. $50.00 fine and 2 points on your drivers license. I had 2, and it will be a lot worse for you. :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, By adjusting my tire size using the Flashcal my speedometer and shift points will be reset, or would I have to upgrade to the Flashpaq for the shift points to be adjusted? Thanks for any info you can provide.
James Smith Hey, James! Unfortunately, it's the latter. The speedometer will be adjusted with the FlashCal, but to adjust any engine performance or shift points, it will have to be upgraded to the FlashPaq. Are you a veteran by any chance? They offer great military discounts if you contact Superchips directly. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the quick response. I'm currently running the stock gears with a 4" lift with 35" tires. I'm not overly concerned with the speedometer being off, but was really hoping this device would improve the shift points. I've read conflicting articles across the internet on this issue. Some folks say it does recalibrate shift points and some say it doesn't. Thanks again for your expertise on this matter.
James Smith no problem! That sounds like the same setup that we're running. If you wait long enough, the software does go on sale to upgrade to a tuner. We purchased ours for $99
Since we're running the same setup, did you adjust the shift points when you upgraded to the flashpaq? If so how did you know how to set them since you haven't made a gear change?
James Smith We really need to make a video on the upgrade to the Flashpaq to demonstrate the differences. If we didn't work such long hours, there would be daylight to film it! Hate the winter... Anyways, the shift points were adjusted with the Flashpaq. Essentially, the tuner settings are based off of the fuel octane levels and when you select them, they adjust both the engine and trans control modules. It's Very straight forward! There is definitely a noticeable difference once you program the Jeep with the tuner.
Great vid! I had a few questions. Does this come with the mileage saving tune? (Have you used it, does it help minimally?) and also is this something I can truly do on my own and just purchase it and plug it in, because a local shop is charging me $120 to install this and as a novice to Tuners, what should I do?
Is worth the extra money for the flashpaq 3874 vs the flashcal 357? For a 2014 JKU Willys with a teraflex leveling lift (2" front and 1" back) and planning on 33s or 34s on 17in OEM wheels, minimal off-roading, nothing too aggressive. Thanks
Eric Hobbs In your case, I would say no. Is your Jeep a manual or automatic? If you do jump up the tire size any more , you might notice the trans working a bit harder and then it'll be worth upgrading. Otherwise, calibrate it and forget about it! 👍🏼
Cant you do Transmission shift points with it? If so can you do a video explaining how to do that and the settings? I bought this from Quad also but haven't gotten it yet.
Thanks for watching, Jerry! I'll have to look into that one. Our Flashcal has not captured our VIN and locked it like we expected. I'm sure it does once you upgrade to the flashpaq because that is proprietary software that they don't want people sharing for free. We'll do some digging and get back to you on it!
So I have a 2012 Rubicon Call of duty MW3. I have the flash paq f5. I f I set my lockers with this to lock in four high. Do I need to flash it before using on the trail. I flash it and dont go off road right away will it lock them in not sure how it will work . Basically if flashed then I put in 4 hi and lock lockers they will lock in and if I unlock lockers they will unlock?
@CRAWL TV I just bought one for my 2014 JK. (Flashcal F5) Is required to update the tool before plugging into my jeep? Is safe to use it? I don't want to void my warranty. Will dealer see that the computer has been reflashed? It worth to upgrade to flashpaq for $99? Thanks
Nasser Al-momen The FlashCal would help you out with any calibration items, such as speedometer, one-touch lane assist, daytime running lights, etc... You can also still read and clear DTCs, which is really nice.
Awesome page and nice informative videos bro! Would this programmer help me identify most lights on my dashboard and also, would it help me figured out which wheel speed sensor is gone? I think i have a bad one. Thanks in advance!!!
So, I'm curious...Once you've made your tweaks to the Jeep, do you have to leave it plugged into the port all the time, or can you unplug it and store the programmer till you need it again?
Somebody died when getting out of their Jeep with it still plugged in. The cord tripped him and he landed on the pavement head first. So after that, they made it so you unplug it. I love this younger generation. You can tell them anything, and they believe it. :) (Be careful in school. They are full of it too today.)
Love your channel you make it fun a informative. Question I have a 6 speed manual transmission with 33s 285/70/17s and after GPS'ing my speedo for a few days it only off my 1 mph. I was thinking i really don't need this to recal my shift points because I have a 6 speed manual. Is that correct?
MIRROR IMAGE PROJECT Hey man! Thanks so much! You're totally correct. With a manual trans, there's no transmission tuning necessary. Calibration is still applicable, but within 1 mph is on point! Thanks so much for watching! 😊
I just purchased a flashcal F5 superchips, but I have a problem. It won't find my vehicle and I have a Jeep Wrangler unlimited 2012 do you have any suggestions for me?
I do, actually! Have you set it up on the computer yet? We pulled ours right out of the box and plugged it in and the Jeep lost comms with the TCM, so the Jeep wouldn't shift out of 1st. 😐 If you haven't done that, start there. 👍🏼
Thanks for your quick response. Yes I plugged in to my computer and did a update, but still it can't find my vehicle. Do you know if I can reset the flashcal and start all over?
We'll, if you bought it new then it shouldn't be vin locked to another Jeep... are you able to make calibration adjustments or does it not work at all? If I remember correctly, before we upgraded to the FlashPaq, it wasn't popping up with our VIN when I plugged it in.
I bought it new from Morris 4x4 and they can't help me. So I have been trying to get in touch with the flashcal support with email and phone calls, but no response at all, been trying for 3 days now. When I plug it in and go to options, it says, can't find your vehicle, call the customer service. So I haven't been able to do anything with my jeep. So now I have a customized jeep that the speedometer, tire pressure, and gears (automatic) doesn't work correctly,
worldmac1 Thank you! We've since upgraded it to the FlashPaq. We've happy to make a video of that and the differences if you're interested! Be sure to subscribe! 😊👍🏻
Absolutely! I just purchased one today, and I heard that you can buy packages or something that turns the cal to the paq. I have already subscribed. ;)
I have 16 JKU Wrangler and Flashpaq 3876. I have 35" tires, 3.5" lift. HD front and rear bumper with front winch and stinger. I have tuned to 91 octane and am using 93 octane gas. My gear changes are still a bit off, even though mpg has improved to 14, up from 12-13. I have done nothing to my gears, except what the flashpaq may have done during the tune. How can I improve the gear changes?
Ed SCSC1 The flashpaq only helps the shift points. Is your JKU a Sahara? A low gear ratio with 35s can make it drive like dog crap and unfortunately, the only way to fix that is by matching your gears to the size tires you're running.
Ed SCSC1 Okay. The sport models have 3.73 gears, which is still low for 35s. If that's your end goal for tire size, it'd be worth the investment to regear. We have the factory 4.10s in the Rubicon, but are planning to regear before we go up to 37s.
Tierhog Since that's our setup as well, I can say yes. Regardless of the gearing, you'll need to recalibrate if you make any changes. The speedometer will show about 5-6 mph off with 4.10s and 35s. We've since upgraded to a FlashPaq, so now we have engine and trans tuning as well.
Have you heard anything from Morris of Superchips? I came up with nothing on my end. I know I've seen the message before, but wasn't able to re-create it.
I talked to Morris and they can't help me. But I finally got in touch with support on superchips and I have emailed them my problem with pictures but no response back, and I sent them a email last Wednesday. And now my engine light has start to show, I don't know if that have something to do with my jeep gearing weird because my 35" wheels?
Try clearing everything from your Jeep if you can, re-loading the software from your computer, and then reconnecting it to your Jeep. Hopefully Superchips gets back to you soon.
CRAWL TV unfortunately I already tried that, and my engine light is gone. so my only hope right now is the superships support, but they haven't done much. If I haven't heard anything in the end of this week I don't think they will help. So honestly I don't know what to do.
JediMasterJF Gunny, the FlashCal does need to be registered and updated on a computer first. We hooked it up to our Jeep prior to doing that and it lost comms with the TCM and then it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear, so it's important to not skip that step, but the setup is very quick and easy. Coming up on four years since our close friend crashed in Afghanistan. We both served with him flying the KC-135s. He stays with us when we go Jeeping.

Thanks!
I'm glad you made the video. I just ordered my flash cal yesterday so its good to know what all I can mess with and what I shouldn't mess with.
Excellent review, thank you!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
My dude!
Just got mine today. Great video! Was only wanting to know about the tires. Glad I watched it all the way through, very informational.
good job. Thats what i expect when i search for reviews, thank you

+RubiconMaverick +Moisty What kind/size tires are you running? I'll send you the links. I have a bit more access through work.
+Moisty your "true diameter" is 34.8, so it's not too far off.
+Moisty Here's an easy-access chart for it:

Turn the key to ignition on and off 3 times and left it on ignition you'll get the code on the screen
Just ordered mine!
Does it need to stay plugged in to the vehicle for shift points and speedometer adjustment for 35's?
No - it reprograms your PCM and TCM when you have it plugged in, so once you have everything adjusted you can disconnect it and put it away.
Cant you do Transmission shift points with it? If so can you do a video explaining how to do that and the settings? I bought this from Quad also but haven't gotten it yet.
I know its vin locked but if you reset your jeep to factory settings does it reset the unit
good review I just bought one for my 2015 JK. do you know is the Flashcal locked so you can only use it on one vehicle.
Ones it been used it can't be used with other jeeps?
So I'm wondering if you would use measured size instead listed 0n the tire. Many 33's and 35's run small?
Yes - you will need to use measured size. Almost all tires above 31" are going to run a bit smaller.
+Desert Maverick great point! Thanks!
Nice video. Got a question. We have 2 jk. 2013 &14. Can I use this on both?
Why would it say "tuner has not been used" when your using it...?
Hi you guys are great . question does this allow to control the fan

Nasser Al-momen The FlashCal would help you out with any calibration items, such as speedometer, one-touch lane assist, daytime running lights, etc... You can also still read and clear DTCs, which is really nice.

do you measure tire with tape measure my tires are 385 x 75r

Will that help with mpg's? I am only getting 13.5-14 mpg on a 2016 jku rubi on 4 inch lift and 35's
If the tire size and gear ratio are incorrect, then it's reading the wrong MPGs anyways. It may make a small difference in MPGs because it adjusts the shift points, but I haven't checked yet.
Thanks
+Jasper Bowman Alright... I have a better answer for you now. To adjust shift points, you'd have to upgrade your FlashCal software to the Flashpaq. You can purchase it online at Superchips.com if you want to do that.
you need to measure the Actual" tire size" not what it says on the side of the tire, because it will give you a false speedometer reading and you will have sluggish power if not programed to the ACTUAL TIRE SIZE.
Im looking forward to you going international.....with your jeep....swiss alps.... italy... greece....asia... Africa... north pole etc
I recently purchased 33s for my 2017 jku and need to adjust my speedometer. My question is..do you know if this programmer will void my warranty?
@Christopher M no it doesn't. I have a small lift and 33" mud tires and they've never once said anything or denied warranty work. Ill bet if I break a part due to heavier tires they will say no, but not void warranty, they just won't do it.
New video! Woooo👍
+Originalredman36 WOOHOO!
Nice video.. very detailed
The best part for me was the beer jejeje thanks anyway nice video
Bought an F5 for my 2021 JL and so far I'm not impressed.
Thanks for clip~!
"Its a jeep why would you do anything European to a great american vehicle" you DO know who currently owns jeep, right?
If I’m on stock gears but on 37s what should I set the gear at? Also, my abs light is on but it won’t read a problem when I scan?
It’s a rubicon hard rock btw
If it's on stock gears you do not need to calibrate. It will automatically know your gears as long as they are stock.
