When a farmer goes to plant seeds, he is looking to plant them on "Good Soil" that is worked and prepared to receive the seed. Jesus tells us it is foolish to plant seeds among thorns and on top of rocks or along a path where people tread.
Jesus speaks of 5 types of people who we share the Gospel with. These are brothers (in the faith), family/friends (those you are close with), neighbors (those you see daily but not close to), strangers (those you are not close with), and enemies of the faith (those who refuse to accept the truth no matter what). Of those, your family/friends are most likely to listen to the message. And neighbors like coworkers are less likely to listen. Strangers are a mix and enemies of the faith is pointless to talk to. Cast them out to the devil (as Paul tells us).
