      My easybake winter survival trick:
      - find spiders
      - make birdcage & get bird
      - make crockpot
      You now have infinite food via meatballs by feeding cooked monster meat to a bird for eggs.
      Works best as/with a Wendy/Webber as both can mass farm spiders with near zero effort.
      If deerclops spawns (usually near the end of winter at night) run the fuck away from base so he spawns away and won't wreck your shit and then ether leave him or come back to fight for his eye later.

Then our whole base caught fire in the middle of summer and the summer boss was also destroying our whole world then all my friends died. I made it to autumn still alive with enough supplies to survive but considering my entire base was destroyed and everyone else was dead there was no reason to keep going. I also killed the autumn boss before I quit because why not.

      @@vanyadolly I've been playing and watching this game for nearly 8 years now. Watching tons of guides from lots of channels. Of course it would seem like someone is stealing content. This game is pretty basic in ways to defeat mobs. And only certain ways you can farm. So they will always look similar. And don't forget we live in America. We have the best freedoms on the world. He should be able to make videos even if they are similar to others. Idk I think it's kind of silly to say that he steals people's content. It's a video game. WC

    • @vanyadolly
      @vanyadolly 4 года назад +34

      @@iamyourgod530 No, it's more direct than that. The way certain farms work are far more specific than general knowledge about the game. You're welcome to research the matter yourself. There are plenty of posts about it on reddit. Furthermore the internet and gaming aren't restricted to the US and I'll respectfully have to disagree about the value of your 'freedoms' if they boil down to stepping on others for your personal gain.

He may have done some farms close to others but I have never heard him talk about another channel and bring them down. I have researched it long time ago. But people these days get there feelings hurt over anything now. I see lots of channels doing farms very similar to one another it's just not beard. Beard lives in Chicago which is America so he does have more freedoms than others in their other countries. That's why America is the best country in the world. Free speech is number one. If you don't want people having competition to your work then they need to copyright it. The people complaining about beard have that right as well. So if they want to complain then get it copyrighted. Then he can't do it. Competition is great

  • @destinymcintire2188

    Two tips I always give to people, new or veteran, is to carry seeds on you at all times. Not only will they come in handy when you finally get a farm set up or are playing as Wickerbottom or Wormwood (who gains Sanity when he plants things) they last for ages and are easily acquired via birds. This makes them a great Emergency food for if you're out exploring the world and run out of meatballs and have wandered too far from home.
    Another tip is that I set up a flower garden in my base to spawn butterflies, butterflies make exquisite filler for Meatballs and are the healing potato chip of Don't Starve. They feed you and give 8 HP a pop! Not to mention they are a decent way to spawn Krampus, collect Souls (if you're playing as Wortox) are required to make the Glossamer Saddle and farm for the ever elusive Butter. Granted this farm will not work in Winter but that's where ice comes into play or any reserve berries you haven't yet picked from your bushes yet. 3 out of 4 times of the year the farm will always be up and spawning butterflies. CTRL+F is the key to punching the butterfly. (Unless you tinkered with your key bindings then Idk what to tell you) To catch butterflies you will need a bug net (2 silk, 1 rope, a few twigs under the Survival Tab) you catch them then hold them in your mouse cursor. It will say "Plant" when you however over suitable terrain. (You cannot plant butterflies on made mad turf. E.g: Wood flooring, Carpeted flooring, etc. If you want to you will have to dig up the turf with a pitchfork, plant them, then put the turf back on the ground.

    • @kirillbisontv8809
      @kirillbisontv8809 Год назад

      I always make one of these but I realized that the less flowers and more people the more butterflies spawn, but you want more flowers if you plan on having bees in your base then you should do a lot of flowers

      It depends on a lot of factors.
      I like the following mods:
      - Geometric placement
      - Realistic placement
      - Camp Security (for managing privacy and people hammering or burning my stuff)
      - Plants Cluster (for planting in blocks, I hate planting one plant at a time. It is more expensive since not only require the dug plants but a % of the resource).
      - Smart Minisign (it automatically puts a minisign with the imagen of the first element inside it, I use it when I play with people I don't know, who usually ruins the order of the items)
      - In case of playing with extremely newbie people, I use Campfire Respawn, so they can respawn quickly and stop draining my sanity because the were killed by a tallbird or some shit.
      - Shipwrecked turfs/Hamlet turfs/Craftable turfs/Pastoral Style/Farmplot: for crafting turfs and other decorative stuff (does not change the mechanics of playing at all, but I like having a nice looking base!)
      - DST Greenhouse Supplies, adds a horticulture tab which adds the posibility to use planters... to plant plants. I like it, because it adds a whole new gameplay by allowing users to make a fully fledge sea base, by having crops. It is expensive, slow, not for early game. I don't use it to grow caves plants though!
      - QM Chests. Adds a quantum entangled chests, which allows users to "teletransport" items from one chest to it's counterpart. I configure the mod to be hard, meaning it is hard to get the blueprint, very hard to make every chest, and also to drain a lot of sanity, making it only for emergencies.
      - Quick drop: To drop items right in the same spot I'm standing. This helps me to put statues in the right place. For design purposes only.

  • @NympoGaming

    I don't think I'm too keen on the grass, twigs, bushes digging and replanting strategy though. Although it may be a good temporary solution for getting enough food in the early game it's really bad in the long run. You basically waste all your time in arranging all those things that are eventually going to get diseased and turn into rot and twigs indefinitely. That if you haven't turned off diseases though. In your case it is a nice strategy, but I wouldn't really recommend it to new players who haven't mingled with the world settings.
    What I'd do is chop down as many twiggy trees as possible and replant them in my base - they don't wither and give you twigs automatically. Besides, upon chopping down a fully grown twiggy tree you get 2 cones and you can grow your forest as time passes.
    Regarding food, farms are a good source for a controlled production of dragon pies, and dragon pies give you 40 hp each at the cost of only one fruit and some measly resources you can find pretty much on the ground. That said if players feel comfortable enough fighting spiders they could use tents and glands for health restoration and completely dump the farms.
    Getting a fridge, even 2 is pivotal early on. Forget berry bushes, mining enough ice can be enough for you to be good for a year or two ahead, because ice doesn't spoil. You can make the game spawn icebergs by walking along the edge of the map during winter.
    Seriously, if you don't have diseases turned off and your grass area isn't enclosed properly don't bother planting bushes, twigs and grass, it's a horrible idea.
    Everything else is as good an advice as it gets :)

    • @DemonRebuilt
      @DemonRebuilt  4 года назад +12

      Honestly, I would recommend to anyone new to the game to turn disease off to begin with. I really hope that it gets reworked in future but right now, it is not a mechanic that adds anything to the game and as such will never be using it in any of my worlds. And even if disease was enabled, I would still be transplanting grass as it's one of the most heavily-required resources. Having a decent supply nearby is invaluable and that would also let you look after it in summer with a flingo. Twiggy Trees I can make my peace with if you want to go down that route.
      Besides that, I do agree that ice is ultimately better than Berry Bushes in the long run but for starting off, Berry Bushes are a really easy way of getting both meat and filler. This is a beginner's guide after all. Some players are still struggling to make it to winter to get ice.
      I do find it very interesting how other people play the game though. Some of the things you mentioned are ways of playing that I honestly don't even consider much anymore. Sometimes I even forget that disease exists tbh. I guess that's one of the best things about DST. It allows for such a broad range of play styles :)

    for new players, don't use weapons in first slot like this video tip. Have a stack of twigs in first slot, or grass even. I mean I haven't played the game in years and getting into DST with my friend has reminded me how annoying it is, everything feels wrong because the seasons change and if you aren't already doing things to prepare it's all so wasteful. Even 'surviving' winter isn't enjoyable if you just sit in camp for most of it, I like the game and want to play through all of it but it's seems so much more about min/maxing time constantly, then it is about even staying alive. You don't get to experiment and mess around unless you want to lose that run or your life if you're going to respawn and waste even more time, you have to know what to do already and then constantly be doing those things. Would be nice if there even was options to have any kind of tutorial or guidelines but based on the older article with the head guy about intrinsic vs extrinsic rewards they think it's more rewarding to die dozens of time without learning fuck all?

    • @DemonRebuilt
      @DemonRebuilt  3 года назад +1

      DST can be tough to learn for sure. There is a lot that you need to know and you risk losing it all for making small mistakes but trust me when I say that it does get easier. Eventually you will get to a point where the seasons and surviving in general are downright trivial. The years will pass without you realising and you can spend as much time as you like doing whatever it is you enjoy in the game (building, fighting, etc.) I guess, if you're worried about not being able to do anything for fear of dying and having to restart, make some meat effigies, take life giving amulets with you, or even play on an endless world so you can respawn if you die without losing the world. There's no shame in playing that way.

    I play mostly single player, because my pc sometimes cannot handle multiplayer, and I can relate to a lot you've said, especially the rotation of camera. As I watched other players I begin to get better.
    When I start playing ROG my biggest difficulty was summer. I died every time...now I can manage but still, is my least favorite season and I always struggle to find things to do, or if I would have enough niter, etc...ugh.
    I also, not very proud to say, never killed a giant by myself. I use them for resources but let other mobs kill (tentacle, tree guards, etc) LOL
    So, this giant comment just to say: I know you're making DST content and, speaking about seasons and bosses could be some ideas for future beginner/intermediate videos. Even though I play very little I love DST content. It's fun I and feel like I learn a lot.

      For ROG, always force an autumn start. It's stupid how they make a spring start a possibility. Finding enough ice for even 1 flingo is hard, let alone 2-3 that you might want to protect your base if it's expanded beyond that. And the dragonfly is the hardest of the giants so it's bad that a spring start usually leads to dragonfly + 0-1 flingos only.

      The direction of the game is a difficult thing for a lot of people. It's a sandbox game so at the end of the day, you do whatever you feel like, after you take care of your needs of course. Some people build megabases, some fight bosses and collect loot, others will give themselves some kind of challenge and restart the world when they're done. Often you just kinda notice something new, play around with it until you understand what it does and then you uncover something else. By the time you've explored everything the game has to offer, you will have played many many hours.

    I. You don't need a base by day 1, you'll be fine wihout cooking food or a fireplace. You don't even need food for the first day, and it's better to explore the entire map before settling down.
    II. Challenge mobs when exploring, you'll get a idea of lethality levels, and how to fight. Get comfortable with insanity and surviving in the dark. The time spent chilling next to a campfire could be spend exploring, (Unless you're playing truth or dare :^) P.S. Hot termal stone allows you to survive in the dark.
    III. Rotate your screen to look at the back of your character while walking so you can see more, and see behind rocks.
    IV. Shift-click items between inentories, contr-click for single items. Organise inventory in whatever way suits you, but know how much you have so you don't have to scour your inventory to know what you have.
    V. Collect a buttload of tumblewheat for early goodies you'll need anyway.
    VI. Use the Geometric placement mod (optional imo)
    VII. Plant all the berry bushes, Farms are Fugly (specifically basic farms)
    VIII. Get a weapon before day 8, and get comfortable with kiting.
