    I’ve got a rusty old 550-1 that my brother found behind a freezer on an old back porch. We did some trading and I’m here to tell you that I have killed more game with that old rifle than any other gun I own. Not much to look at but it is a good shooter. Love it!!

    That's good stuff! My 550-1 from my grandfather cycles everything except the cb shorts. Fantastic and very accurate rifles!

      I was surprised this 550 cycled the pest control shorts! They are a really light load.

    A 550-1, lucky you! I once found a beautiful one at a gun/militaria show, having a Redfield peep sight in the scope grooves and hooded Redfield target sight up front. I’d forgotten my money out in the truck. In the three minutes it took to go get it, another-less forgetful-buyer got it!

      Oh man! I’ve been there. It went to someone who needed it more. Thats what I tell myself anyway in that situation. Appreciate the comments!

    I've got both. Nice old rifles that feed just about anything that I've tried.

    I recently picked something up at a grage sale called the "Quick-Load" for rimfire cartridges. Its a sleeve that holds cartridges, when you line up the opening on a tube magazine and slide the inner sleeve out, it dumps each cartridge in the tube. You can carry 2 or 3 in a pocket vs the cumbersome, tube style loaders. I dont know if this product is in production, but its really the better tool for the job imo.

    Love seeing those old rifles getting out and used! Remington made a 550-G that was specifically made for shorts. It was a gallery gun. Be interesting to see how light of loads it would take? Keep up the great work and good content.

      I know right! That surprised me. Makes me want to trade the 552 for a 550!

    The tubes are well worth having. You load them up beforehand, and basically just dump them into the tube after removing the brass plunger.

      I may have to pick one up. It would sure cut down on me fumbling around in videos.

    Great video !!! I've got a 550-1. Got it at the Gunsmith now to drill and tap the receiver for a scope. BTW, looks like your rifle is missing the cartridge deflector that screws on to the receiver. Kind of important to have so that the ejected cartridges don't hit you in the face. Perhaps more of a concern for me as I am a lefty. The deflector is easy to find, but the deflector screw is very difficult to obtain.

      Thank you! The 550 is a fantastic rifle. That particular rifle was loaned to me by a good friend. But I will definitely be adding one to my collection in the future. Really great design. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment! Send me a pic of yours with the scope mounted up. I’m curious to see how it looks. What scope are you going to run?

      @@FirearmsandFellowship I should get the rifle back from the gunsmith either this Friday or sometime next week. I picked up a new Weaver 3x9x40 scope at the Indy 500 Gun and Knife show for 10 bucks with rings. Guy just wanted to quickly move the product rather than taking it home. Happy to send a picture when the scope is mounted. However, how do I send you the picture ? I also have a Stevens 87A, J.C. Higgins 42DL, and a Mossberg 44US(A). I've got pictures of those to send once you point me in the right direction on how to do so. Thanks

    Some 55-1 will shoot and cycle the cci cb shorts and some won't. I have never seen a 552 speedmaster that would do this. Thats why I love the 550's.

    It seems like you respect these rifles. So, what possessed you to beat on the front sight with a ball peen?

    • @FirearmsandFellowship
      @FirearmsandFellowship  Месяц назад

      I appreciate your concern. No rifles were damaged in the making of this video. If that sight had needed any real persuasion I would have used a brass punch and not a polished hammer face. I’m not a gunsmith. I’m not advocating for any particular tools or techniques. But if you are interested in gunmiths @marknovak8255 is a fantastic wealth of knowledge. Check him out. Have a great day Michael.

    A fine sight drifting adjustment done with a ballpeen when a brass rod is laying there right next to your hand. You are a bit HAM FISTED my friend.
