  • Join me during my voyage on Semester at Sea!! I will be traveling around the world for over 4 months to 10 countries. Day 1 of Malaysia was spent in Penang, where we just explored, looked at temples, indulged in the culture and got ready for the rest of our chaotic days to come in Malaysia.

Shame you lost your footage, but it's all good. Glad to note your classmates are so open to other culture cuisine and traditions. Malaysia being a Muslim country is rich in tradition. Ever wanted to know the story behind the head scarf? I believe that is a hijab and Malaysian women wear them to identify themselves as Muslims. Some here in the USA may identify those head scarfs as a form of female subservience or submissiveness. I don't think Malaysia law requires them to be worn by foreign females, but highly likely a requirement when entering the mosques. I have never been to Penang nor Malaysia, but it looks very modern. Nice of you to make friends with Lifelong learners and the fact your new friend is on a 3rd 16-week long tour is a testament to the value this program provides. Keep posting and I do enjoy your footage and explanation. I like your posting because it's not all about drunken parties. What I learned about college is dependant on what you take away from it. The institution is nothing more than a venue to which a student can draw from. The learning starts with the student and I always tell my student that as their professor, I am just a guide and I'm qualified to be that guide because of time spent and experience. I wish I was on your voyage, but it wasn't in the cards. I even had a motto for my class: "We're Alive; Class 135" Curious to know is their an accounting course on the ship? I know there's entrepenurial. Stay well, safe and enjoy life. Oh, I hope you saw the twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, not sure if that's reachable from where you port. That is such a cool structure where a lot of movies were staged there. For one, 1999 film Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.👍
