Sasuke never wanted to feel superior, he just felt that killing Itachi was sort of a duty for sasuke and he was willing to do anything for it even if it meant almost killing his best friend, and he could've killed Naruto but he didn't because he knew that was something Itachi would do to get the Mangekyo Sharingan.
