The problem with an Island is there is no place to evacuate too. Unless you evacuate by plane or boat days before. After that you are stuck.
This is going to be catastrophic. I feel terrible for the people, this is going to be a great loss for them.

Most Islands are small, check the maps, Australia is a Large Island.

Beryl is the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever recorded for the month of June.
I used to live St. Vincent and a lot of the houses and structures are not built to withstand winds of 140 mph. This is going to cause a lot of damage and death.
Especially after the volcanic eruption a few years back.
Not very many houses anywhere atre built to survive 140 mph winds.

I'm currently in Barbados. Thye water authority turned the water off last night and the electricity went off about 7am this morning. In St James there wasn;t much rain and winds were off and on. Not much impact in my village. Just a bunch of leaves to sweep up. Electricity came back on at around 4pm. Praying for the other islands in its path.

@@robertorea2515 I don’t know about that, still way too early to know that, but there’s a good chance it will only be a Cat 1 if it hasn’t been downgraded to a tropical storm by that point. It looks like Jamaica is the only one that has to worry and it may not even be all that bad by then either. But I could be wrong, you can never be sure with hurricanes which is why the weather people are wrong about them so often.z

They do this for every hurricane and people fall for it every time. As someone who has lived on the Gulf Coast for over 40 years, the hurricane rule is not to worry until there something to worry about! Otherwise you’ll go crazy because they’re almost always wrong about where it will go & how bad it will be.
Well we in the Caribbean Islands have to take it serious. We have to know our hurricane shelters, and make ourselves hurricane ready and aware. It’s not fear mongering. Being caught unawares and unprepared is silly, dangerous and fatal.
Don’t pray, evacuate.
