    In 1981 Geoff Duke was a travelling Marshal and he was riding a Honda CX 500 turbo, so there has been at least 1 TT winner who went on to be a travelling marshal

    Hats of to the TT Travelling Marshals i did a road marshal in Northern Ireland pulling people out of hedges and so on even Red Flagging a race but i'm not going into that these guys and ladies do a wonderful job without them there would be no TT or any road races which we all love.😀

    in decade or so!!😉Interesting video as always. And saw your sim setup on the Obsession Engineering channel video last year. Worth a watch for the uninitiated.

    Thanks Jonathan another good one. Often wondered whether if a retired top racer , think of a particular one here , wanted to become a TM he would be given priority when a vacancy occurs.

    Grand bit of information Jonathan! back in the early 1980's I looked into completing the Manx, I choose to marshal (had to sign on as special constable then) at several different points around the circuit, basically to learn different angles and approaches to do the corners for the following year! (sorry to say both money & main sponsor, ran out the later going bust)! but even marshalling at different corners opened my eyes, and would recommend anyone to get involved. After all local (main land UK) or Isle of Man races could not take part without Marshalls.

      I’d imagine the bikes are fuelled up in the paddocks. I don’t see the guys nipping to the garage and getting a receipt!

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад

      We all get issued with a fuel card that is paid for by the TT. We do use pump fuel. You'll see us filling up in Ramsey near the square if we're starting up that end or around Douglas. We can get a fill in the middle of the day riding out the back of the paddock if need be

    Thanks for all the great content you film! And never worry about going off on tangents (they're often the best bits).
    One question: Has the TT ever had travelling medics similar to the Irish road racing or just the Air Med?
    Cheers.

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад +1

      Never had a medic like John Hinds was in Ireland at the TT. The airmed crews are second to non and we have 2 on scene within minutes if we need them

  • @jlore6344
    @jlore6344 2 месяца назад

    Thanks these are great. My question would be: "Do you ever get star-struck when helping around the course when a legend is involved? Like do you have times where maybe someone like John, or MD will break down and roll up to your spot or maybe someone famous has a minor off and you are on the scene?" I would not be able to speak probably if Dean or John rolled up.

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад +1

      Not as such no. Everyone out there is a hero. I know some are more famous but all treated the same. We get a lot of retirements at the spots we marshal from as they're black flag points so spend time with a lot of riders there especially at the MGP where bikes break a lot more often

    Afternoon Jonathan . How much rain would stop a race in progress ? Glen Helen was wet all tt week how does that effect going into Sarah's cottage?

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад

      Glen Helen was wet. But it was predictably wet all week so wasn't a surprise. We stopped a couple of sessions at the MGP last year for some heavy rain that came up in places. Was way too dangerous. I'll be making a video on that soon I think

  • @manx1569

    Are MGP winners guaranteed a place in next year's TT? I think they should be guaranteed an entry in the relevant class as an incentive to win the junior/senior mgp

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад

      Not as a rule but the speeds needed to win an MGP now would mean you'd pretty much guarantee a TT entry for the next year. MGP winners aren't allowed back to MGP the year after anyway so that encourages them to step up to the TT too

  • @MALCOLMBOLLANDS
    @MALCOLMBOLLANDS 2 месяца назад

    Brilliant content thank you. Do you have to have lapped the course at a certain average speed to be looked at for being a TM in the selection process? E.g minimum lap of 110 mph. Avg

    These vidoes are top class! I was wondering if you race bikes on circuits to keep you sharp or maybe track days? Or is it only for the TT, southern 100 and manx GP? Might seem a silly question but would be interested to know! Keep up the great work 👍🏼👍🏼🏍🏍

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад

      Yeh we do a few track days. Derran #6 still does some classic racing and Jonny #7 is an ACU rider coach so helps run the race school here on the Island at Jurby so he's on track a lot. Jim #2, Tony #1 and Paul #3 do a lot of riding too but more touring than track days

    Hi Jonathan do you think that when one of the long time TMs decide to hang up their leathers and retire that Honda would do the decent thing and let them keep their last TM bike it would only be good publicity for them. Keep the fantastic content coming. Cheers Jim

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Jim. Dick Cassidy retired from being #1 and in his last year they used Yamaha's. The big bang ones from 2008 I think. He kept his bike. Didn't get it for free but got a very nice discount from what I've been told

    Do you Marshall the southern as well? Going to be over in a couple of weeks and will be down at the clubhouse before probably heading upto church bends, what happens to your old helmets and jackets as would fancy a jacket or helmet for my collection in exchange for a donation towards the 100.

      Cheers for the reply mate, looking forward to quizzing the lads in July down Castletown.
      It's true of the saying no Marshall's no racing. Respect to everyone involved in the safety side and what can be a very dangerous job on an open track

    What is your opinion on Conor pulling out ? do you think thats that for him or will he be back?

    • @tttravellingmarshals7207
      @tttravellingmarshals7207  2 месяца назад

      I think he'll be back but only on a bike that can win. He won't come back on an average bike to ride round for a top 10. He wants to win a TT and won't be content just making up the numbers. TAS needs to get a second rider on the grid along side Davey. That would do for Conrod
