  • Dr. Dawn Lavell-Harvard is a proud member of the Wiikwemkoong First Nation, the first Aboriginal Trudeau Scholar and the Director of the First Peoples House of Learning at Trent U. Drawing on her expertise as an advocate for Indigenous rights and as a prominent scholar. Dr. Lavell-Harvard explores how cultivating empathy can bridge divides, foster understanding, and ultimately pave the way for meaningful reconciliation between individuals and communities.
Our 2023 Symposium themed “Empathy Towards a More Caring World“, brought people of all walks of life to hear our speakers discuss the importance of developing a more caring world through empathy. Without an empathic citizenry, you cannot have a caring society. A caring society aspires to leave no one out. Its citizens respond to the needs of others, understanding that it strengthens the whole.
