I recall when I first came across Calvinism. The whole thing just seemed "off" to me, but it's adherents seemed far more able to justify their belief in its truth than I was able to refute what they said. They could quote several texts that seemed to confirm their claims.
My initial reaction was to seek answers from non-Calvinist teachers. However, I didn't find anyone with a convincing rebuttal. Their reaction to Calvinism seemed just as flawed as I felt Calvinism was.
Eventually found the answers I wanted through my own Bible reading and study.
Calvinism has strong scriptural support IF the majority of scripture is ignored. I started to see that Calvinist argument was always focused on the same handful of texts and the wider context of those favoured verses was never taken into account.

I was just like you. And I did a really deep dive in those texts the Calvinists use as proof texts. If you’d like the absolute best scriptural understanding on those same proof texts the Calvinists always use, an understanding that shows the actual meaning of texts like Rom 9, Eph 1, etc., that shows not only how the Calvinists get it wrong but also shows how their message is exactly opposite of Paul’s teaching, let me know.

@@TheRomans9Guy Thanks Bob. I think I've come to a good understanding of what the Calvinists fail to see.
For example, Eph 1, being 'chosen' and 'predestined' relate to being IN HIM and are THROUGH HIM.
Later in the chapter it makes it clear that we "were included IN CHRIST when [we] heard the message of truth, the gospel of [our] salvation. When [we] believed..."

The most dangerous books commonly used by Christians are study bibles - especially if they are the bible used for everyday reading. Some may be useful for occasional reference but should not be relied upon to 'explain' scripture.
One I'd advise people to avoid completely is the MacArthur Study Bible, unfortunately one of the most popular.

      @abideintheWord 4 года назад +5

Onesimus Tim yes! I had to ditch my study Bible. Once I started studying the Bible in-depth for myself and God started revealing truth to me, I found the things in my study Bible either ended up being misleading, outright lies, or had nothing to do with the verses it was addressing. God told me to ditch it and just get with Him and the word and I feel I have learned more than I ever would have just reading some man’s notes in the bottom and his opinions telling me what I need to believe and how to interpret a verse. It’s all a big deception. So are devotional books. Not many devotional books are going to talk about the tough verses like cutting off your hand, forsaking everything, sin and judgement, etc.

      @onesimustim8424 4 года назад +4

@@abideintheWord I used to have a Dake's study bible - hard to get and quite expensive. Far more notes than actual scripture - and I spent more time reading the notes than reading the scriptural part. I had to throw that out.
I now have two study bibles that I use for very rare reference, but they have notes about cultural background and historical context not interpreting the text.
When I started to take the time to read scripture for myself, unaided, I found that it wasn't as hard to understand as I'd been led to think. And the more I read it the more I could understand.
If I don't understand something I don't stress about it - I just read on and expect it to become clear at another time. If it's something I need to know, the Holy Spirit will open it up to me.
Most of the time when something seems difficult, it just means there's probably something else I need to learn first - like needing to learn basic arithmetic before we can expect to understand more complex mathematical concepts.

Now I will say this this whole school turned me atheist because their teachings didn't make any sense at all and I didn't have a connection to God then. Now there's the problem I was bullied by my classmates I tried to tell them I was being bullied but nobody believed me when I tried to stood up to them, my teachers would side with my bullies and I was a scapegoat for three years. My bullies used those teachings as a way to excuse their actions and the school didn't anything to stop it then. Anyways I already graduated that school 10 years ago, I don't plan on going to my high school reunion and never will go to future high school reunions. I love your video exposing Calvinism and just resigned from a reformed church.
I would really appreciation it if anyone could offer me some insight on the 2 emails below that I received from one of the pastors after sending our resignation letter from a reformed church that never tells anyone that they are reformed (very secret and all the pastors are 5-point Calvinist). I did not understand what their crazy beliefs were until I started to study exactly what "Calvinism" was (or reformed). In other words, I went there for a few years and never once did they say the word "reformed" or "Calvinism" or "5-point Calvinism". It's not even on their website and find it so secretive (similar to the way cults are).
Having been a strong believer for over 3 decades I absolutely had no idea what "Reformed" or "Calvinism" or "5-Point Calvinism" meant. Not in my wildest dreams would I ever think that a "church" would believe (even though they play "the word salad game" when you ask them about these strange beliefs such as:
    1. Jesus does not love everyone
    2. Jesus did not die for everyone
    3. Jesus does not want everyone to be saved
    4. Man has zero choice in making a decision to come to Christ
Also, I have found out that Calvinists use the same vocabulary as true believers but use a "different dictionary."
Please confirm if my feelings about this reformed church leadership is abusing their authority from the quite disturbing emails that I had received after resigning (there are 2 emails he sent below).
    His email back to me:
    Dear ---,
This feels a bit out of the blue. If you are being called to serve elsewhere, you should seek guidance from your pastors about that. There was a brother who went off on his own against our counsel not too long ago, and the Lord disciplined him severely with two unrelated, yet severe health issues that arose consecutively out of nowhere. He later came and repented for it. That kind of story has happened more than once.
We recognize your gifts and your place in our body. If you want to have conversations about how we see the Lord is able to use you here (or possibly elsewhere), we are happy to help. Getting an email out of the blue that announces that you are leaving without any input from us seems very strange, and it makes me want to ask what is really going on here.
Where are you going to serve? Your pastors need to be part of this conversation. It is dangerous to step out from under authority, and I want to warn you against leaving without talking to us more about this. You know we love you, and you know you can trust us. We are the men who have laughed with you, prayed with you, walked with you. My sons look up to so much because you have been intentional about getting to know them. Frankly, I am disturbed to get an email like this without any context. You owe us more than that, Brother.
Let's set up a time to talk about this. When can you come by the office?
    Blessings,
    -----------
    His 2nd follow up email:
    Dear ----,
I just wanted to follow up and ask again: Where have you been called to serve? Is there a particular church you are heading to with a particular ministry in mind? If so, you should be able to tell us what that is.
If there is not a particular church, but a general pursuit of ministry, then I think you're going about this entirely wrong. God doesn't call us to become "free agents."
I'm still confused about this situation. Please let me know what you believe the Lord has called you to. Again, I would love the opportunity to meet with you and talk about it, but at minimum, please let me know via email.
    Thanks,
    ---

Yeah that definitely sounds like some cult-like behavior - trying to scare you and intimidate you away from leaving their organization. It’s definitely scary leaving a church. But we must be led by the Spirit and not by man.
If you think you are strong enough to defend true Christianity and show them what the Bible says, then by all means do.
But you have to understand one thing - and I know this is going to sound very harsh but I believe it’s true. Calvinism is not Christianity. People who hold to it are to be treated the same way that anyone from any other cult is to be treated like Jehovas Witnesses, Mormons, etc. They have a false gospel just like them, even if they have a lot of other things rights.
Now I will say that what he said about it being dangerous going out on your own can be right in a sense. What I mean is I have seen some people leave one cult or false teaching just to go over to another. For example, people like Doreen Virtue who came out of new age types of churches and prosperity teaching just went straight over and put themselves under Calvinist and cessationist teachers who will lead them astray. So be careful not to be just led straight into another heresy.
Please keep me updated with what happens. God bless!

The best description of how to explain to our children from John Calvin's teaching summed up very well like this...................
Little Johnny, God has predestined the minority of people to be saved and go to heaven forever, and He has predestined the majority of people to be eternally damned and burn in the fires of hell. We have no idea, little Johnny, if God has predestined you to be forever damned or forever saved.
We love you, little Johnny, but we accept the fact that God might not love you, and that He may have plans to send you to hell for your future sins. If you do find yourself one day burning in hell because He hasn’t elected to save you, just remember that we will always love you, even if God hates you.
Take comfort knowing that we are not like God.
We will be in heaven forever only because we were unconditionally chosen for salvation before we were born. That would be the only reason that we won’t be in hell with you if you find yourself there. It won’t be because of anything we did.
So also take comfort in knowing that. It may not seem fair, but who are we to judge God?
So again, if you find yourself in hell, remember that we will always love you as we forever worship the God who loved us but who hated you, the God who sent His Son to die for us but not for you.
Please, we ask, don’t let it bother you-if you find yourself in hell-that we love the God who hated you and showed you no mercy. We must accept the fact that God is sovereign, and He does what He pleases.
Why would you ever hide the wonderful “doctrines of grace,” the “Bible truth,” from your own children or grandchildren?
Reformed 5-Point Calvinism is another gospel, it has all the ear marks of a Cult. The closest cult to Calvinism is Islam .
The Calvinist God and the God of Islam must sit at the same table going through their fry or not to fry list!
One of the foundational doctrines of Islam is the absolute sovereignty, to the point of determinism, of Allah. Allah knows everything, determines everything, decrees everything, and orders everything. Allah is even the cause of evil (Unveiling Islam, p. 109).
It follows that Allah predestines all who will be saved and all who will be eternally damned. Of those who cannot be saved, Surah 2:6-7 states:
It follows that Calvinism and Islam are both inherently fatalistic. In Calvinism, the sovereign God elects those who will be saved and rejects all others, as seen repeatedly in Calvin’s writings:
…some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation; and, accordingly, as each has been created for one or other of those ends, we say that he has been predestined to life or death (Institutes, 3.21.5). John Calvin
The reason they share the same Theology is that they come from the same source of inspiration!
They all are writing down the Doctrine of Demons they embrace and willingly!
    TRUTH IN LOVE

Hey brother. Good video and I can relate to much of what you are saying here. Attended a reformed church for the last 4-5 years, but something never sat right about being a member. And in order to be a member, small group leader or elder, you have to agree formally to their statement of faith, which includes statements like God chooses who He will save (individually) according to His good pleasure (unconditional election). I have reached a point where I can’t do this with a clear conscience and think it’s time to move on. However, to say it’s just a cult and no one is saved is a major stretch. There were believers in my small group no doubt. Also, Dr. Walter Martin whose book you are holding did not classify Calvinism as a cult, he disagreed with Calvinist’s view of unconditional election in predestination, however he called them brothers. What are your thoughts on that?
I do think there are MAJOR issues, and consistent Calvinists (called hyper Calvinists by the more moderate Calvinists) have demonized God for a gospel of divine individualistic election and meticulous determinism, however the more moderate Calvinists that preach and act like a non-Calvinists (open call on the gospel, evangelize, etc) are brothers and sisters.

We then walked through Romans 9, I was able to walk through it verse by verse staying in the context of the focus being on Israel and judicial hardening of those who reject God (i.e. Pharoah).

Church history says the opposite, it was Arminus that came along and said to the orthodoxy church that his Arminian 5 points were correct, which were:
    1. Free Will or Human Ability
    2. Conditional Election
    3. Universal Redemption or General Atonement
    4. The Holy Spirit Can be Effectually Resisted
    5. Falling from Grace
Then the orthodoxy church rejected and answered Arminus' wrong ideas and the answers are:
    1. Total Inability or Total Depravity
    2. Unconditional Election
    3. Limited Atonement or Particular Redemption
    4. Irresistible Grace or The Efficacious Call of the Spirit
    5. Perseverance of the Saints
This system of theology was reaffirmed by the Synod of Dort in 1619 as the doctrine of salvation contained in the Holy Scriptures. The system was at that time formulated into "five points" (in answer to the five points submitted by the Arminians) and has ever since been known as the "five points of Calvinism."
This was the system of thought contained in the "Remonstrance" (though the "five points" were not originally arranged in this order). It was submitted by the Arminians to the Church of Holland in 1610 for adoption but was rejected by the Synod of Dort in 1619 on the ground that it was unscriptural. By the way the Arminianism was announced as heresy.
Now we can safely say Calvinism is not a heresy and definitely not a cult, but Arminiasn is a heresy that popularized the numeral theological errors and seimi-plaginianism.

In other words, it isn’t just that God manages to turn the evil aspects of our world to good for those who love him; it is rather that he himself brings about these evil aspects for his glory (see Ex. 9:13-16; John 9:3) and his people’s good (see Heb. 12:3-11; James 1:2-4). This includes-as incredible and as unacceptable as it may currently seem-God’s having even brought about the Nazis’ brutality at Birkenau and Auschwitz as well as the terrible killings of Dennis Rader and even the sexual abuse of a young child . . .
What a sick twisted mind John Piper has, yet millions follow his every word!

Here are just two verse that can be used to support once saved always saved: John 14:16-17 "16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." out of the KJV. For comparison here is both verses out of the ESV John 14:16-17 "16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you."

You are making a false proposition that one has deny the trinity or the virgin birth in order to be considered a cult. You are defining cult based on the framework that theologians have constructed. If you would have listened carefully to my video, I said that many define cults in difference ways and there largely isn’t even agreement among theologians of what exactly makes a cult and what doesn’t as it can be very nebulous and tricky to define. What I stated in my video was that in my experience with members of various known cults such as jehovas witnesses, and false man made religions like Catholicism was a common them that they ALL have. And that is that they all have a man or a group of men who tells them how they need to interpret scripture because only they have the “correct” interpretation of what scripture really means. Calvinist have John Calvin who tells them the supposed “true” way scripture is to be interpreted. Every cult has this in common along with the fear tactics they use to keep people in. Calvinist use the fear of telling people things like they don’t believe in God’s sovereignty or they are trying to save themselves, or label you with the title palagian, etc.
