The Caps only road victory that first year was in Oakland against the California Golden Seals. After the game at the players hotel they took a plastic trash can and put some adhesive tape on it, writing "Stanley Cup" and paraded it around.
The trade for Langway saved the team, Abe Pollin was going to sell the team to either interested that would moved the team to Saskaturwan or Seattle or New Jersey., instead he got tax concessions from PG County and 8 guaranteed sellouts.
Seattle would probably have been the most likely. I don't think the NHL would have wanted a team going to Saskatchewan, and another team was already earmarked for NJ (Rockies).
The 1974-75 Washington Capitals were so bad that the fans would cheer when they completed a pass to one another or attempted to win a fight. They lost 17 straight games during that season and were out scored 114-33 in those games. I remember how good the Caps fans were and stuck behind them thru that rough first season. Capital fans yearly should raise a beer to Jim Hrycuik(1st Caps goal), Michel Belhumeur (0-24-3) Goalie and Tom Williams (58 pts leader).
As a hockey history buff, I've been watching these and I must say these have been for the most part enjoyable. But you've got to do more research on the name pronunciations. It's Dennis Ma-ROOK. Or if you were in the Capital Centre and saw him score: MARUUUUUUUK!

Thanks for putting these together, awesome content
next video...they win the fricken cup ...BABY!!
I don't see any video for the Kansas City Scouts / Colorado Rockies / New Jersey Devils who also entered the league in 1974.
You should have talked briefly about their first ever President's Trophy during the 2009-10 season, in which they had a club record, 121 points.
Now they're Stanley Cup Champions!!!! 😊
A long way from worst to first!

The 1983-03 Caps were cursed by their era. There were always teams that were better (usually the Isles or Pens).
You know you have the worst team in n.h.l history when you mistake a player for a porter.
Washington C"r"apitals were made by the Montreal Canadiens trade in 82.
Thx rod langway ya yank.

The Caps also had a player back then named Guy Charron. When he scored we all yelled Guuuuuuuuuuyyy.
