Lots of people hate this EP due to production, but for the time (2005) and also not being signed to a label at this time the sound is great imo and the rough production honestly adds to the sound imo. The songs feel full of emotion, and are filled with the beautiful vocals of Jonny. During my first listen I wasn't a huge fan of Jon's screaming style (I started listening to them in 2022 and went back through their discography in 2023 so I was not used to this style from Jon) Also I have heard that during the writing of the lyrics Jon and Jonny wrote separately with no knowledge of each others vocals, which is why there's such a contrast in their vocals as well as tons of overlapping, which I personally love and wish they would do more now in their newer music.
I see people shit on the production of this EP, but maybe you just had to have been there. This EP is drenched in youthful emotion, Jon's early skramz style vocals, and the raw instruments give this project a very particular ambience. I think it all fits. I'm an OG DGD fan though, I was listening to this and DBM1 in 06/07.
Kinda reminds me of veil of Mayas first EP/album it is very rough but my God is it fan fucking tastic music and imo they haven't reach that level of writing since same with this album it's rough but it adds a certain ascetic and atmosphere
they reason they dont recreate these older songs is actually because will swan and im sure others in the band too but i only know its confirmed that will swan did say that those older songs on this EP specifically werent good enough guitar wise in his eyes to play live anymore, so he mightve just abandoned it or is just leaving it alone.

this is the song that got me into DGD straight up but it was the demo version that was much more raw but it opened the door for me to listen to the other songs. The original demo version was pretty fire too i’m with you on this one brother
