Three year old video and still the best pattern I've found, thank you for all the videos!

I've never seen this video. It popped up as a recommended video but I couldn't find it in any of your playlists. Which is probably why I haven't seen it. I thought I'd watched them all!

I have had great success with this fly during heavy cloudy periods during the day. I find it works best in faster riffled waters.

I can't agree with you on the similarity to Chuck's CV. To me, the two very different patterns. If you haven't already, I'd recommend looking up Chuck's Caddis Variant on Charlie Craven's Fly Box as there is an excellent write-up. But then again, a true Chuck's CV tied large and orange like an October Caddis might be a real winner. Now I just have to find some orange calf hair.

The insect itself actually has a reverse tapered body meaning its thicker near the end and thinner in the front, the photo you provided illustrates it nicely

What dyed deer hair would use?
Blue Ribbon boys? I like their quality hair but would like to get Color/ Dye more applicable to East H2Os

Unfortunately, I usually see them late at night, fluttering around my inside and outside lights more than on the stream!

    Great fly.

Just my opinion but I think all that bulk at the head of the fly is unnecessary and certainly doesn't match the profile of the real bug.
I'd just tie a regular elk hair caddis using orange colors. :-)

Absolutely legit concern. The reason for the bulky head on the fly is that when you dress it up with a dry floatant, like frogs fanny, it can be pulled under water and then it will pop right back up again. This mimics the behavior of a caddis diving to lay eggs on the bottom then coming back up. For whatever reason trout just can’t resist it.
