Indeed it will, found out the hardway, although I believe mine was bad anyhow, but read the Voltage on the back of your Motor, most newer models is only 12volts.
Okay, the fan works when I run power directly to it. Evidently it froze over enough to shut down the fan, but when I plug it back into the fridge, it is not kicking on yet. The temperature is in the 60;s. Does it not kick on until the fridge hits a certain temperature? What do you recommend testing next, and how do you test the defrosting coil or module. How do you test the fan relay? thanks
Please add a note to identify the part number of each fan motor, because some are 120V and some are 12 DVC. They are not universal and not compatible either. Thanks for your video though.
I bought my Samsung almost 7 years ago and it's been a problem from very early on. I did buy the extended ins and it paid for itself, and now the frig fan broke. I will never buy a Samsung frig again!
So I pulled out the evaporator fan motor and apply 120 volts like the video suggested and then poof and some smoke and the motor fried turned out it was 12 volt fan motor thanks a lot
Hi, is the fan dead or still salvageable? I just did like this video too, I found this video after I tested with 120 V. I have been searching for answer before I purchase a new fan motor.
Hi, thanks for the video. Where can I get the exact evaporator fan motor or which other model support it? Mine is bad da31-00003n and haven't seen the replacement. Please help.
thanks' for all your videos Bill, those are helpful you are with God now, thanks for everything and blessings for for all your family. thanks, thanks thanks thanks,,,,
I have a situation where the fridge seems to be too cold, and it is on the same settings we've used for years. One of my questions was whether the fridge fan was running. I cut a square of toilet paper into ~1" strips, folded in half, and inserted into fan discharge vents inside at the top of fridge. Then I closed the door. I did this test several times, with and without the "fast Freeze" mode, and at a few different temperatures, and sure enough the tissue would be blown out when I expected it to. So now on to find why it's too cold...
Bill, if only you had gone on to do the freezer next! That's my exact fridge, and I was able to disassemble the top after watching your video, but the bottom freezer rear panel removal is besting me. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the vertical divider between the ice making section and the rest. Help!
Hello Samsung refrigerator RS261MDRS/XAA. Issue. Both freezer and fridge is not cooling 1. Evaporator and condensor fan are okay 2. Compressor is okay 3. Control board in the back is brand new 4. Start relay okay 5. PTC relay is okay Control board in the back side is new. What go check next please. Please help! Appreciate all the great videos! Thanks much
Bill, I am getting a reading on my Ohmmeter of 149, and you mentioned we are looking for a reading of 160. Does this mean the fan is bad, or is their a zone it can be within, or does this mean it is shot? Thanks, great video!
My fan in the freezer section is 12V DC.. You shouldn't be saying to apply 120volts without checking what the voltage on the fan is. My freezer fan doesn't work when installed, but does work with 12v applied. Should both fridge and freezer fans run when FF is selected in diags?
Bill do you know what causing not getting cold air with working evaporator in freezer, but no cold air coming to my fresh food section? There is only 1 coil, dumper is fine.
My fan was dead, but I was able to re-solder the magnet wire connections and it works fine and measures 168 Ohms. I work on automotive electromechanical designs and we outlawed dipped solder joints like these years ago...
Hi Bill I've watched almost all your videos, I have a KIC 380L double door fridge my compressor is running but my fan isn't, now the problem is that I cannot get to the fan, I do not know where to open. I've called out two technicians one says it's the compressor the other says it's the thermostat (they both fixed what they say it's the problem) but still my fridge is not cooling 🤦🏽♀️ I can't afford to buy a new one now, please help🙆🏽♀️
Samsung refrigerators are pieces of shit! It Ice cake all the time behind the evaporator cover ! If I can modify the fan speed maybe it work out. Until then, every 3 to six month I have to take the cover off and defrost all night. Mediocre look
Hi Bill I have a Samsung RT34FAREDSA inverter fridge freezer am having freezer fan error but I can’t seem to locate the freezer fan how do I go about this
hi i have a bosch condenser fan which runs slow and i can stop the blades with my fingers im just wondering should these fans spin at high speeds or just as long as the give air to cool the coils? also i read in the net that should be getting abt 30 ohms to 5000 (white yellow and red wires) im getting 1.6kohm ( white and red) but i get 13 M ohm (not sure if the M is mega or just something is there something wrong with my reading? i used the auto range to test the resistance please advice sir thank you.
We have a Samsung RB2055SW refrigerator. I suspect that the evaporator fan motor intermittently stops. I want to the same test you did on this video. But my panel seems to be stuck near the motor location. All six screws are out. What could be holding onto the top part of the panel?
Samsung model number rs265tdbp When plugged, BOTH fans not working, took freezer cover off...there isn't any cooling of evaporator coil . Can put my hand on compressor its working...(off course doesn't mean it's compressing) but definitely working.
hello i have a Samsung RS25H5111BC, their is no power going to the refrigerator evaporator fan, the fan work fine with manual 12v being fed to it. but no power coming from the connector in fridge with compressor running and evap cold. fridge stays warm with no fan. right now i have it rigged with 12v directly to the fan to keep the food from going rotten. is their a fuse or relay? please help! thanks for your time!
Just a note on applying 120V to these fan motors. The one in THIS video is 120VAC. There are other Samsung refrigerator models that use 12VDC fan motors. Please do not apply mains voltage (120 VAC) to a 12VDC fan, bad things will happen.
Refrigerator fan stops when door opens and is a bit noise at times freezer is fine but water coming down on the refrigerator side on drips to the floor any suggestions is cooling fine but before fan will continue to run with door open.... help
Hi Bill, Great video's. Presenting problem: freezer works; no cooling in the fridge compartment. I will share my most recent experience in an attempt to solve the cooling problem. Solution: having watched several video's (your video's included) on RUclips, I used my multimeter to test the pc main board. I ordered a new main control board. Installed board = still no cool in fridge. Then, I tested the evaporator fan motor. It works. So, I decided to buy a new evaporator fan motor (as a tech suggested this could be the problem). Installed the new fan motor. Talked with tech when fridge would still not cool. Previous, the tech was working from the wrong model. Today (with better service), the local tech asked me to remove the door switch (two prong). With this removed, the fridge fan now runs. Problem solved: faulty door switch.
first should know what is the model of the unit , for other model everyone should try to find out the V of the fan AC or DC ( try to buy one based on your Model and find out if is AC or DC and what voltage ) this way if you are going to connect it to 120V AC and not burn the fan, older fridge with no fancy board ( money pit) used 120v AC
Typically there is a hot refrigerant tube running around the freezer door to keep condensation away. So some panels should be warm while the compressor is running. If those panels are really hot to the touch, your compressor and condenser coil maybe not getting enough airflow and overheating. Make sure that the condenser fan behind the fridge is running together with the compressor.
I just did your test and got 163 ohms but when I connected a plug to the fan and plugged it in, I got a spark without the fan ever turning on and now when I check ohms, I get nothing so I think I just burned out a perfectly good fan. I did exactly what you did but not sure why the fan motor sparked and died. I will never buy anything Samsung other than phones and tvs as this fridge acts up every few months.
Most of the Samsungs I work on use a DC volt motor (about 11 volts on high). The one that he tested happens to be an AC motor. The high voltage would have fried your DC motor.
My fridge isn't getting cold (cool, not cold), but the freezer works fine. So I took these steps with my Samsung and when I took the cover off, the coils were covered in ice. Now what?
This happened to us too. The technician used a hair drier to melt the ice and then the fridge worked again. The condensation (likely door left open) froze and stopped the fan from working.
WARNING: This video should be removed from the internet. It will cause a lot of evaporator motors to be burned up. Many fans run on 12 volts only, the presenter's fan runs on 120 volts. I blew up my 12V motor because I realized it was 12V only after I had removed the motor from its housing. Hope this warning can help future browsers.
I just spoke to the CEO he first tells me they sale so many that my fridge freezing and leaking under the crisper isn't a problem worth a recall. Then before the end of the call he says this isn't a known problem. Mind you there is supposed to be a class action lawsuit about this problem.
HORRIBLE VIDEO. No warning that some Samsung fridges could be using 12v DC motors??? Thanks to your instructions I burned my motor. You should give warning to people about DC motors!
Hey there can you tell us if we can fix a Samsung refrigerator RFG298? What's wrong? Well, the refrigerator lights are on & we think it is cooling. However, the front panel control panel lights stopped responding to the buttons. In other words the display has four numbers showing 88 88 the last 8 is flashing. If we hold any buttons down for 3 seconds, like the instructions say nothing happens. This display began doing this after we turned the circuit breakers on and off. Once the power came on the 88 88 display appeared and Samsung's Tech Support couldn't help us. Any ideas? Eugene Louie 408-202-3820. Any help would be appreciated. Something tells me the control board needs replacing. I was hoping one of your videos would cover this but apparently you don't have the same fridge.
+Eugene Louie Hi Eugene I have a different model but this happens frequently during power outages. Samsung customer service sucks big time. Eugene Louie No problem. I think your model has separate Alarm and Lighting buttons and don't know if the procedure will work on yours but if I was to follow Samsung instructions my fridge would not have been reset and they would have me calling a "technician" who knows at what cost when pushing a few buttons did the trick. Some one may come along and be helped by your question in the future so all good!
i really appreciate how you show how to troubleshoot and test the part, not just how to replace parts. thank you!
Thanks for the video, Bill. Wish you were still with us to know how many people you've helped over the years.
He's passed away?
@@markc1551 yes, 4 years ago.
@@markc1551wow that really sucks. Seeemed like a really nice guy and not very old in this video. Just don’t understand some days. RIP
Hi Bill: Excellent video. Just a suggestion, NOT all Samsung evap fans are 120VAC. Mine is in fact a 12 VDC. 120 VAC will fry it in a heart beat.
Indeed it will, found out the hardway, although I believe mine was bad anyhow, but read the Voltage on the back of your Motor, most newer models is only 12volts.
Bill, thanks for all of your repair videos. You are a good teacher.
I did exactly what you said. Thank God I was outside!!! Motor caught on fire. I threw it in my fire pit with some logs. Started right up!
Very useful video, as always. Thank you, Bill! Any way, I have may be stupid question. Can I find faulty part by running fridge self-test?

What about the resistente AT the freezer.. ?
Where did you buy the motor at?
Whats the ohms for a 12 volt dc motor?
Double check and make sure it's level, I've notice it's temperamental if it's not level!
From side to side or from front to rear?
Also what if its 180 & higher
@@anthonyking4387 Front to rear, the front should be slightly higher. So the doors will self close when closing.
Mine is like 3/16 higher in front or a little more
I hear that you could test the fan by using a magnet to simulate the door being closed..not sure where to place the magnet though.
what is the fan part number and where i can buy it
greatly explained

My samsun freezer not freezing but the compressor is working ad fridge is freezing up
Why does the side panels of this Samsung model #RB215LASH get hot, and is this normal?
Typically there is a hot refrigerant tube running around the freezer door to keep condensation away. So some panels should be warm while the compressor is running. If those panels are really hot to the touch, your compressor and condenser coil maybe not getting enough airflow and overheating. Make sure that the condenser fan behind the fridge is running together with the compressor.
Good One.
Most Samsung refrigerators are dc fans, doing this will smoke the fan. Usually it's not the fan.
Followed your directions. Cut off an extension cord and tested the fan. And when I did it destroyed the fan. Went up in smoke.

Why not just apply voltage first?

If your not a technician, only a diy, its your fault not to check your blower voltage . Technician will check first the voltage of the parts
I just spoke to the CEO he first tells me they sale so many that my fridge freezing and leaking under the crisper isn't a problem worth a recall. Then before the end of the call he says this isn't a known problem. Mind you there is supposed to be a class action lawsuit about this problem.
some of these use 8-11 volt DC FANS, if U put 110 ac in it you will toast it !
Um, you might want to verify your fan is 120v and not 12v DC. Just saying.
HORRIBLE VIDEO. No warning that some Samsung fridges could be using 12v DC motors??? Thanks to your instructions I burned my motor. You should give warning to people about DC motors!
You are right! I just tested my fan motor with 120V, and smoked it. My question now: is the motor dead or still salvageable?
The video specifically applies to the RS267 in the title. Are you saying you have a 12 v dc fan motor in a Samsung RS267 ?
My Samsung is RS2577rs and the fan motor is 12 v how I tested
Use a 9 volt battery, and connect the red wire to the positive side of the battery, & the black wire to the neg side.
