...so this movie made me come out of a 2 year editing hiatus
i made this to convince other people to watch it. when i was younger i used to love the carmilla webseries and subsequent movie but i think this adaptation of the novella won me over. it's not as outrageously vampire based but it is very focused on witchy/hysterical/satanic themes. carmilla (2019) hit me like a freight train
i highly recommend watching it if you like: dark themes, whimsical youth, period pieces, coming of age movies, lesbian vampires, ridiculously pretty cinematography, angsty (hot) repression, etc etc. their dynamic in the constraints of the film is just.... chefs kiss. i have a new fave (fangless) vampire. (i also wrote a fic for them on ao3... under the username @killingcve)
