    In this simple project we take an MQ3 alcohol sensor and use a cheap Arduino micro-controller to read the values for alcohol content in our breath.
    The MQ3 sensor values are not calibrated in any way so you should NOT be using this to determine if you should operate a vehicle etc. This is for entertainment only.
    The code for both the serial readout and the OLED versions can be found on my GitHub here: github.com/MKm...

    I laughed out loud at those reading labels. I'd love it if the cops actually read stuff like that.

    i worry about the effects of alcohol, but like to drink, so i keep a log of how much i drink.
    (been a diabetic so long, keeping logs of medical data is a force of habit). Building something like this could be useful, for times when i'm sick of mentally trying to keep count of my drinks.
    If you ditch the Arduino and use an ESP8266 instead, you can have it automatically (& wirelessly) upload the data so it can be graphed. It could just upload to your smartphone, allowing you to see your inebriation during the night, and predicting when it'd be safe/legal for you to drive. Simple visuals are important, coz might be too drunk to understand.
    Uploading wouldn't be absolutely necessary, it could all be displayed on the OLED, but it's probably easier to code a good interface on a smartphone app.

    Hello, I am trying to use your code for alcohol and Led display, already added library but I got a problem,
    it shows that:
    Users/yen/Documents/Arduino/Alcohol_Led_Display/Alcohol_Led_Display.ino:15:26: fatal error: Adafruit_GFX.h: No such file or directory
    #include
    compilation terminated.
    exit status 1
    What can I do ? Thank you for your answer!

    When I do mine it works only the values are always saying that I am drunk. I heard that there is a warm-up time? What is that and how do I do it? Sorry if its a dumb question, I'm new here! Thanks for your answer

      Initially they need time for a "burn-off" then it should only take under a minute for subsequent starts (usually under 30 seconds)

    How do I calibrate the alcohol sensor. One thing I been struggling with

    • @WeirdSide
      @WeirdSide 2 года назад

      take a measurement sober and set that to the min value. The get completely wasted and take another measurement, set that to the max value. Then do a linear interpretation between the two!

    Can i know why you have to set below 200 to know whether they are sober or not ? Thank you in advance for the fast reply.

    There's an alcohol sensor? ( well obviously there is but I didn't expect it to be so readily available )
    I swear there's an arduino sensor for everything.

      The beauty of Arduino- it is just a micro controller- just about any sensor or device in the world can be adapted to work with it- It does not need to say Arduino ;)

    • @lewisrobotstuff3623
      @lewisrobotstuff3623 7 лет назад +1

      Oh yeah, of course, all it really needs is a potential divider and you're done. But for an alcohol sensor, I would've expected to have to rig something up but now that I think about it, you could find practically any sensor.
      I didn't really mean an Arduino sensor specifically but a premade sensor. Looking back on it now it was a pretty ridiculous thing to say but it was 3 AM :P I suppose this is why I make shitty robots instead of useful things. Good job.

    hi im trying to do this project myself only im using an oled display SPI what i think shouldnt be a problem but when im using your code i get this error:
    alcoholo_test_02:51: error: #error ("Height incorrect, please fix Adafruit_SSD1306.h!");
    #error("Height incorrect, please fix Adafruit_SSD1306.h!");
    ^
    exit status 1
    #error ("Height incorrect, please fix Adafruit_SSD1306.h!");
    Might be a stupid thing im not seeing but im new to all this :)
    could someone help please? thanks in advance

      +jan jeyo Perhaps you are using the wrong library for your display or haven't configured it correctly.
