- IN THIS VIDEO WE SET OUT TO TAKE A SMALL VACATION TO JUST RELAX AND HAD TO RETURN HOME BECAUSE MY FATHER LEFT BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITOL.THERE WAS A 40 MPH STEADY WIND AS WE RODE ACROSS TO GET BACK HOME. IT WAS A BIT SCARY. Edited by VideoGuru:videoguru.page...
I first encountered this bridge in 1977, riding my 1975 Gold Wing, and it was an interesting experience. I do not remember having the option of staying in the outside lane for regular pavement. My memory is that both lanes were grated. Similar bridges on the Pacific Coast highway, and I found that riding serpentine on the grate (like Formula one cars do to warm up the tires) reduced the issue so I do not worry about this any more. A bigger pucker factor was the on ramp to the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. Idiot designers made a significant banked corner on it. Normally that would be OK, but when you have traffic stopped dead in rush hour, your fully loaded and two up, come to a stop and the right leg is somewhat scrunched because the pavement on the right side was closer than normal because of the bank, and the left leg and foot cannot even touch the ground by a couple inches. DON'T NOBODY MOVE ANYTHING was the command.
Scary ride on the bridge. I rode over the Milow bridge in France, luckily no big wind… good to hear mrs mo on the back..Shannon a Irish name I guess… be safe all 🇬🇧👍
So very nice to see you posting again.
You and your girl are SO brave! Bridges give me such anxiety and I have never had to cross such a long one. I do not think I would be brave enough to do it.
You made the right choice!!!! Stay on the blacktop if at all possible. I rode from south to north across that thing a few years ago on my '07 ABS. We had to get off of the pavement and ride the grates because of painting operations. I had one hell of a time hanging on riding the grates! I have been across the Mac on everything from a KZ650 to my "84 Aspencade and never had such a bad experience as the grate riding ordeal!
Nice video!
Great to see you back!!!
Hello from Nashville TN, I hope you found peace in your heart
So cold my friend. Blessing to your family. P.S. Use the knee trick in the wind ;)
Mo, I did the exact same thing. We did a group tour of the UP and the day we left for home there were very high winds on the bridge. I rode across om my Wing at 45 degree angle. My buddy would not ride across with the high winds so Bridge emploee rode his bike south and he rode in a truck.
yeah, no. Wings won't lean over at 45 degs without scraping. sub 40, maybe. 45? neaupe.
Wow, man! You're a braver man than me. I'd have to make sure I had "Depends" on.😅
A lot of turbulence crossing those bridges, remember ride the wind don't let the wind ride you, stay safe.
Glad all well Mo 🙏 safe travels. ARKANSAS Badlands
Hi Moe what's that yellow light underneath your tachometer your tachometer
There is a bridge near my house with grates like that... Scarier when wet and windy.... May your dad RIP.......
I rode my Zuma 125 next to 3 tornados back in June. I believe the winds were up to 100mph and it’s the only time I’ve been blown off The road 3 times. I was laughing the whole time and somehow made it through without a scratch
I hate that grating in my truck i wouldnt want to ride on it. Im sure at some point i will cross the bridge from the U.P. for a ride though!
There's something about a 900lb. motorcycle being blown sideways that raises the pucker factor to 11; AND doing it 300 feet above the water! Just think how the guy towing the camper felt.
midspan is 192 feet above water level, not 300
@@keemez Well aren't we just a wealth of information. Sure as hell felt like 300 to me and I don't ride the grating.
yes, yes we are. "feels like" and "is" are 2 different things. e.g. wind chill.
what bridge?
