Thank you Fr Mark. I have found myself giving up t.v. and other things ,social events. They hold no interest or importance to me. It also gives me more time to pray. Which brings me peace. The peace of the Lord.

Good for him, me and my wife gave up my TV 10 years ago, also I gave up social media like Facebook, Twitter like 4 years ago. I use RUclips time to time but I use it as short as possible. Because prayers and connecting with Jesus is my Joy. I read books about the Saints what is more important than watching garbage and I believe it kills the brain with negativity. Giving up TV is the best thing and recommend it to all of you. Less of the world and more of Jesus ❤

Videos like Fr. Mark on RUclips greatly assisted bringing me into the church and out of occultism and other serious sins. I didn't know any practicing catholics, so I got all my education from Scott Hahn, Brant Pitre, Catholic Answers, EWTN, until I started RCIA.

@@jenyoung2473 Exactly - praying to Our Lady for discernment is critical. If you do this, she will gradually let you know which voices (even in Catholic RUclips circles) you shd be listening to and which are leading you astray.

I gave up TV for many years now I feel more peaceful ❤😊
In 2013 I gave up the Internet. What I can tell You is that it was the Most Stress Free Year ever since I was Child. It was so Liberating and opened me up to GODS Will. It also helped me grow in my Relationships w/ Friends and Esp. my Co-Workers

I know some people who have a tv set in several rooms just not to feel alone . I agree with him I have not watch tv for a very long time my prayers take so long I am glad if I can finish them . Admittedly I am not in the best of health but one has to prioritise 🙏🏻

Thank you Father. I never had TV and so it was not hard to give up. I am trying to be a minimalist ...trimming my belongings one by one. You reminded me of two things I could get rid of this week.

It appears that Pope Francis has given up the Catholic Faith, September 2024.
Although, his active participation and discipleship has been obviously lacking for quite some time, especially in evangelisation.
We are all sinners, continue to pray for our Pope.

Pope Francis should give up trying to appease the haters.
I rarely watch TV except for occasional news or weather. I prefer my favorite RUclips Catholic channel (Fr. Mark Goring!) and a couple of cooking and homesteading channels. No TV allows time for praying, reading, learning, cooking, knitting and time outside simply relaxing and enjoying nature! Time really opens up for better things when the TV is turned off. ✨

I quit watching TV a few months ago and it's made a huge difference, especially not watching the news anymore. Some people may say it's far-fetched, but I honestly believe the enemy is operating through those channels ... you only have to look at the things being promoted to see that.
When it first came out they called or the devil's box. And I m sure a mystic claimed that the devil would control the world through a box in every house
They used to speak of internet addiction , before it became an epidemic of idol worship

Years ago I became very selective... I flick through the options and never watch any realty shows or anything with sexual topics. I enjoy nature programs or here in NZ we have "Shine" or "Hope Christian chanels....but if the Lord prompts me TV certainly will be off for good!🌹

Now we know why our grandparents thought the movie theaters were sinful. And they taught us, whatever comes through , your tv into your home, you are a partaker of that sin
I read a lot, both spiritual and secular books. Lately, the secular books I have picked up have gotten too immoral with more foul language than I can tolerate even when the story line is good and the immoral subject or language serves a purpose. However, these things stick in mind and rob me of peace. A few nights ago I felt Jesus say to me in my thoughts, "This is not for you." I skipped to the last chapter and finished the book because I'd wanted to be ensured the main character survived all of his turmoil. But, the book will be thrown away because "it's not for me" and I don't want to contribute to it possibly not being for someone else either. There are so many good classics and spiritual books available that there are plenty of others books for me to read.
I came to know Christ in jail in 2013 by reading a book, "Overcoming spiritual blindness" by James P. Gills MD. The veil was taken off my eyes. Heaven came through for me. Now i have a home a husband and a lovely year old daughter (Zoa), and a stream of income that get me $25,000 monthly. I can support God's work and give back to my community. God is absolutely more than enough!

Perhaps the real reason Francis has given up television is that he can’t handle the honesty of his critics who are focussed on defending the Magisterium and the Tradition of the Catholic Church, matters which are anathema to Francis. The current pope would do well to give up heresy and apostasy, two of the worst evils which are destroying the Church. As a faithful Catholic, I do not take inspiration from a dark pope.
Francis sometimes says the most beautiful things, and then he turns around and utters things that make me question why I converted to Catholicism in the first place. It’s confusing and disappointing 😢
I have no interest in Francis so called spirituality. But love the analogy of looking behind us and seeing what we have left behind to follow Our Lord. Thanks.

I gave up TV one particular day. My kids were very young, arojnd 4 and 5 yrs old and I just happened to walk thru the livingroom, looked at the TV and noticed this commercial of two women walking down a catwalk of stairs holding one another's hands.. and then a couple of men walking down the stairs together holding each other's hands. Turns out it was a commercial selling watches....but it was gay. This to me was a complete intrusion! Right into my livingroom. I ended TV immediately and switched to a tv and videos we would buy at the swap meet. Never again mess with the innocence of my children! Esp b4 I have even given them their Faith formation, which is their Armor for the world! Going without TV is easy ...

Fr. I'm a Protestant who is 2 month journey towards catholism ... But recently I heard the Pope's speech "on all religions "it made me upset ,I know that the church is true.. but my mind is confused could you please help me.. I ask you not as a person but as a soul 🥹🙏
The faith is true, but ´rome has become the seat of the antichrist. ´ according to the words of our blessed mother at la salette.
The way I think of it is like he's my spiritual dad, he's getting old, tired, has a lot of pain and physical suffering and is possibly getting a bit confused. It wasn't an authoritative teaching, but as you say a speech. He made a mistake. The church is true. St. Peter, the first pope made a mistake about circumcision and St. Paul corrected him.
I am a new convert, and I joined the church last Easter. I did not join because of (or in spite of) Pope Francis. The church has had good popes, bad popes and unremarkable popes but it is still standing as Jesus said it would bcs it is HIS church. What drew me in were the truths of the church - apostolic succession, the communion of saints, and esp. the Eucharist. Don't let the current confusion in the church/Vatican deter you.

Yes, it gets tough with all the attempts of satan to destroy The Church from within. However The Catholic Church is The Church Jesus started. It is all in The Creed. Love Jesus, love His Teaching, Receiving The Eucharist, allow The Holy Spirit to move your heart. I want to point something out to show you how easily mislead you are. All think Sunday is the Day of Worshiping God The Almighty, when the Julian Calendar was put in place Saturday became Sunday. Not to mention when God created everything there were no calendars, so how does ANYONE know what day it really was on!
