Yes that may be true, but there are far more basic art paintings worth thousands of dollars and people still buy them. People just chose what art has more value to them which is fine. To this business owner she believed that her work and time was worth 150 dollars. I don't see the issue. As a consumer, if you don't think a mug is worth 150 dollars, don't buy it just to complain about it later. It's not for you. In my personal opinion, all that this did was tarnish a business owner for no reason. @@jadaafaith

Why do people make excuses and justify small business owners when they play the victim card. Specially when no one called them out? Also, she was the one who decided to cry to the net in defense of her craft . Also, she uses molds, which made her handmade craft not that much of a handmade product. You can use molds they exist to help your workload but unless YOU made the molds too, stop calling your work 100% handmade and cry when people call you out for overpricing. @XOChristianaNicole 7 месяцев назад +1

@@ll2323- I got these BEAUTIFUL handmade mugs, as well as a little coffee drip cup that sits perfectly on top of each one, when I lived in Washington.
They are sturdy enough to even freeze in the freezer, for cold drinks.
And they aren’t painted - the colors are worked into the clay.
I paid less than $35 for each piece.
Perhaps around $100-ish for two mugs and two drip coffee saucers.
And I ended up buying a huge “man’s mug” (beer stein-style) that matches everything, perfectly - for not much more, if more, than the other mugs.
And I thought the prices were rather reasonable, for what I had purchased.
I couldn’t imagine buying a mug, that is a standard mold - that is exactly like the ceramic pieces One could purchase, when going to those “paint-it-yourself” ceramic activity places - for freakin’ nearly $100USD.
      And the thing is..
It wouldn’t even be that difficult for her to create her own molds, of basic cups, either.
Even if her own handmade mold was incredibly similar to the mass-produced ones - I’d give her more credit, and could potentially see her charging a bit of a higher price (still not $100, however).

I don't think Sophie is being dramatic when she made her response video. Shelby literally made a video trying to drag her for what she said but if Shelby never opened her mouth none of this would be going on. No one even knew where the mug was from until then so Shelby is beyond ridiculous and Sophie was just trying to clear her name.
Also, shelbys using molds for her products so how original is that really? Other creators who hand make these items charge like 4x less. All she does is pour the mixture, let it dry, and paint. Smh

Especially for her (young) target audience.
But not having the character strength (or whatever you want to call it) to say 'no', despite it feeling awkward or embarrassing and then blaming the other person for overcharging you is just not a good solution. Because if you don't accept your share of responsibility for the problem, you'll never grow and learn to deal with this kind of situation in a better way. And good luck negotiating contracts and wages or making major purchases like a car, in the future.

That pricing is definitely unreasonable. Her entitlement as a small business owner is astonishing, and her markup is excessive. I'm currently in business school, and I know that while production costs may have increased, they haven't risen as much as people believe. It seems more like price gouging.

Regarding her cup making speech: NO ONE MADE YOU, LADY! No one makes you buy the "special" paints, your hours of time, and blah blah, and then trying to make CORPORATE speeches while crying over being a "small" business. "Small businesses" are famously acting like they're forced to live in their shop because they can't afford a home as well as a business. You're not that hard up. And you guilt Soph for the weight of her name on social media with her presence in Shelby's shop. No. No no no. Unethical and not ok.

  • @GlitterMonkey07

reasons why that mug lady is a scammer:
-her items are NOT in high demand (meaning nobody’s begging her to make the mugs) therefore she CANNOT increase the price of her item, doesn’t matter if it took hours or even days to make, she still can’t increase the price.
    - her mugs are TINY, and her materials are cheap. do yall know how CHEAP clay is?! especially how easy it is to make a MUG and then paint cheesy designs??? the quality of her items aren’t expensive and they’re small. she had no right to make them that pricey…

ok sure its handmade and you've put a lot of work into it, but $81 USD for a cup that size is INSANE!!!!! Also u guys i did quite a bit of research and how Shelby claims to "pay her staff" from the unbelievably high prices she's charging her customers is 100% shady! The avg labour wage in australia is $39.99 AUD per hour and if she has a profit margin for herself its totally different. Considering if her staff works for an hour she still has $82 AUD left!! Scamming people in the name of your small business is so out! Grow up!!

For someone who actually buys handmade ceramics it’s a totally normal asking price to get a mug or dish for 30-60 euro. Yes hers a bit on the pricier site but it’s her work, her time and her resources going into her ceramics. If her asking price is 150 aus dollar, then everyone is welcome to decline.
