I was born in Elland ( 1948 ) so stepping back in time. I remember when the rot set in and they knocked down two nice stone built streets and put up a block of flats that were ok for rearing hens - not for people to live in. The old butcher on Southgate, Milton Smith, was a mate of my dads. Quite sad to see but thanks to whoever produced this video.

How’s that for history. Looks a million times better in the old days than today

Gob smacked, absolutely gob smacked looking back to these old photos, to how is today. From Church street to South End School, and now ruined. A little town such as Elland, they should have left it's heritage and not demolish everything. Even Rex cinema, I've heard it's going to get demolished, even though they've just refurbished it. I've had to pause on every single photo, old and new in disbelief. Instead of spending all brass on Halifax, spend abit of change in Elland. Great video, just subscribed.

so true, my brother lived near Elland, and he says it could of been a mini York tourist attraction if they left the building alone and just improved them, so much interesting buildings just gone ;-(

No, Rex is safe, but could do with some more customers.
And they are in the middle of spending a lot of money on Elland as I speak.

We've still got Dobson's: the shop on Southgate is gone, but the factory remains on Northgate.

Another example of 20 century 'uglification'. It's the horrible bright plastic shop signs that do it. Image those on the Shambles in York! Give me cottages and narrow streets rather than blocks of concrete any day.
Also would love to know where you got the beautiful music from.

hi, music is in the description with links above ;-)
and yes, Elland was a beautiful little town once - it's just plastered with flats and well...more flats nowadays!
