RIP Sean Edwards….I watch this video about every six months and it gets me every time. Brilliant driving by such a talented young man….gone, lost waaaay too young.
Sean Edwards was an incredible driver, and this video is proof. He is patient, level headed, and aggressive when it suits him. The most impressive though, to me, is the consistency and simplicity to his driving style. He never overdrives the car. You watch some onboard videos with drivers sawing at the wheel...Not this guy.
@@debbierigby6304 The problem is that the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is not a full spec GT3 class car. In the 997 generation 911 Porsche actually had 5 models which had "GT3" in their name, but only one was a "GT3 spec" car. There was the road going standard GT3, a different road car called the GT3 RS, a racing version of the RS called the RSR, a Porsche cup racing version of the standard GT3 model called the GT3 cup (which Sean drove in this video) and finally an FIA GT3 spec racing version of the standard road going GT3 called the GT3 R. Confusing enough? The reason for this is that Porsche started naming their models GT3 before GT3 even became a racing class, so they're just continuing the tradition. They first used it on the 996 generation 911 I believe, which came out in 1999 whilst the GT3 class was created in 2005. So yes, Sean is actually driving a cup car, which is a lower class than FIA GT3 spec and lower class than the GT3 RSR. This stuff is even confusing for a Porsche fanboy like myself so it's understandable that you got bamboozled by it.
Man I’ve become such a huge fan of Sean Edwards sadly after he passed. I’ve watched so many of his races. He was a phenomenal driver and his loss is a loss for all of Motorsport.
Honestly anyone who says Motorsport is boring doesn't comprehend the level of skill and professionalism it takes to be as good as Sean Edwards. Having the skill is one thing but mentally maintaining your composure for that one moment that you can pass up another driver whom races in the same class as you is a make or break trait that few have which is why I LOVE this sport so much. Not only is it dangerous to drive as fast as these pros; do but letting your frustration and impatience affect your judgement is the mentality of an amateur which is why I respect them as much as I do. RIP Sean Edwards your driving and mental fortitude will be missed in the world of Motorsport.
I had never seen this footage. But here I am in 2019 watching this absolute monster of a driver thinking "Wow, that is just exceptional level of talent" He was one with the car and that is rare and a joy to watch. Requiescat in pace Sean!
One week on from his passing, this footage defines how I choose to remember Sean which is to say, the exact the same way I first became aware of him: a driver blessed with a effortless speed, car control and an elephants memory to remember every bump, compression and camber to set the car up so he could do stuff no one else could. All signed off of course, with a quite remarkable level of composure behind the wheel (see video above), racecraft and judgement. Rest in peace Sean. We miss you.
Sean Edwards was one of those naturally gifted pilots. An aggressive driving style, but he did it in a very relaxed way, taking his time to creep up on someone to then overtake decisively and mercilessly. Such a shame he lost his life in such a stupid accident through no fault of his own.

Wow! I did not expect to get that into this clip. Entertaining for sure to see a racer so in control and at a different level than his competition. A shame to lose talent like that. RIP Sean.
He overtook everything he came across whether they were in a faster car or talented too...but unlike Dale Earnhardt he never pushed anyone out if the way to get by. He was precise and always looking several moves ahead sizing up his next victim without losing his flow and rhythm. Truly magical command of his machine, while almost motionless in his seat...except for his rapier like flick of the shifter, always in the correct gear, never over doing any transition, or shift....and to focus that intently during the high speed chaos and for a LONG time. Simply sublime, he was truly doing what he was gifted to do...and I'm kinda proud it was in my fav marque as well. There is no substitute for the man or the machine.

But now I just looked at it in the small window and realized that he plays an instrument. I thought of Joe Satriani, Silver Surfer. Everything perfect. LeMans woul have been yours. Rest in peace, Sean.
I am in love with this man's driving. That move around the black Porsche halfway through the race was incredible.I literally clapped at that move and then he acknowledged his driving was bad ass. Absolutely beautiful display of car control and positioning.
What a battle! Now this is what I call racing! Enjoyed watching it very much.
One of best motorsport video ever!
Pedazo de pilotaje!!! Como se disfruta el automovilismo así. Felicitaciones al piloto y al equipo por tremendo auto también!!!! Saludos de Argentina
Rocking the “Gran Turismo” windshield decal. Love it.
RIP Master, I appreciate this video. Thank you
outstanding driver. R.I.P sean Edwards
This is one of the best drive's I've seen. Well done.
Sean Edwards at the wheel, and every place on this track seems to be a good spot for overtaking :D
Das war einer der Allerbesten den die Nordschleife je gesehen hat....Bei diesem Lauf war ich am Flugplatz dabei, an die abgestreute Ölspur erinnere ich mich noch gut.
RIP Sean Edwards :( An awesome talent who will be sorely missed by the motorsport world and never forgotten.
That was incredible to watch, patient, skilful and very talented ... truly fabulous. I was very sad to hear his loss of life at only 26 as a result of being a passenger in a car.
