    Great setup. I would just move the water pump outside so it wouldn’t be so loud inside the shower house. The regular flush toilet is a game changer.

    You are so lucky to have the bath house. There can be nothing better than a shower to make you feel better after a hard day of work! As for having a flush toilet, well that is great. When I was a child and lived in London (UK) my dad bought a cottage in the countryside and he gutted it and created a lovely home. Originally there no indoor plumbing, only an old fashioned well for water and we had to go into the forest to go poo poos! Times were hard as a child........... Glad things have progressed since then. Take car both of you. p.s. Jen needs more lights.

    I wanted to do just a shower just like this but was told by county that it was not allowed in northern rural MN. Was told would need a septic system which would cost over $10,000. County does not allow nontoxic soapy shower water to run on top of the ground back in the woods. Also would not let me collect it in a bucket under a shower pan to dispose in the woods either. Crazy because they do allow you to collect soapy water in a bucket from under a sink and dispose of that back in the woods!

    Hey y'all woot a shower is a wonderful thang. The showers in the UK are what we call emersion heaters. Like yours, they heat the water just before you use it. There's a master switch usually outside the bathroom that you turn on to use it. Garden is looking good. Solar lights are the business now. (Much brighter than they used to be.) Question do you guys harvest rain water? Cheers, Puck in NOLA.

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  3 года назад +2

      Tankless heaters just make more sense. If they can work out the kinks of the heat exchangers rotting out from poor water quality then they be good to go. We have not collected rain water yet due to the fact the small bathhouse was the only really surface we could have collected it from. I'm hoping to do a nice rain collection system up at the cabin this year now that we have a nice roof to catch it. 😁

    No paint on the water tank? A dark primer layer to block light and a white outer layer to stop the tank from heating up in the summer will see most of the algae growth stopped. If you are just using that water for the sink, shower and toilet why not capture the water off the roof to reduce what you need to haul in?

      We do not have the exhaust vented outside. It produces a very clean propane burn and we only take short showers. So your going to build a outhouse. Better idea for you. I built a box with a lid. Added a Separett Privy 500 urine separating kit. 5 gallon bucket with sawdust for solids a 2.5 gallon plastic gas can for liquid. I bought four 150 gallon Rubbermaid stock tanks put plywood lids on them with a vent pipe for each. We added black soldier fly larva to the tanks in use. The urine we dump around trees in our forest. When we fill a tank with solids we compost it for 18 months then we can spread it. We have one tank in use, one empty, two are cooking. I get out there weekly and turn the contents sprinkle water just to keep it moist. They smell li,like, wal,ing into a garden greenhouse. That is our solution for our off grid homestead waist system.

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen

    Question on the Black Tank... I read on your other video that the toilet flushes to another IBC tote that is buried and has the bottom cut open. How has this worked for you over the time you have been using it?
    Also, do you flush the toiletpaper into the ground as well and are you using Septic Safe TP so it degrades quickly? or are you taking the TP out in a bag separately?
    Thanks!

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  2 года назад

      It has been used a lot over the last three years and still drains well and has only a couple inches in it. All the paper goes down there too. I m sure it will impact and stop draining at some point, but so far so good. Looks like any other outhouse hole really. Remember we have super sand soil here that rains well....that will Makena huge difference.

    Do you filter the water from the IBC ?

    • @OffgridwithJayandJen
      @OffgridwithJayandJen  2 года назад +1

      It is an RV style pump yes. We filter the water before it goes into the IBC tote and shock it with bleach to keep bacteria and already down. The bathhouse water we don't drink so little extra chlorine doesn't bother it too much. We did it this way to keep the system simple and ap we only needed 12 volt, also easier to wintize for the winter.

      @@OffgridwithJayandJen nice!
      So, I had an idea in mind to use an rv pump to push water into a shower house in much the same way.
      I have all these deep cycle batteries but they're all mismatched, so to fins a useful way to utilize them, I had thought of this as a solution. I too would be only 12V so it's great to see this has been done - and quite effectively!
      Thanks for this.
      Oh btw... I know the pumps aren't really all that loud. I currently live in an RV until our permanent structures are built and there's one in there.
      It's what gave me the idea in the first place.
      I was actually going to have the pump, water heater propane tank and battery in a small closet on the backside of the shower house, so it's separate from the actual room itself. Just to cut down on the sound, eliminate risk to battery and that strange, occasional scent of propane that can occur from time to time.
      Love your example.

      Honestly I cant give you an exact number. But we spent a crazy amount of time off grid last season due to shut downs and such and we only used one full tank and one half tank. That's 30 gallons of LP for a 5 month season, almost 50% of that we were at the property....two people showering almost daily. I would guess......75 showers minimum per 20 pound tank. I’ve seen some utube videos on how to design a rainwater system that catches the first few gallons of rainwater which is the dirtiest. Basically they used a vertical 3 inch pvc standpipe to initially catch the junky water and after it overflows , that water runs into the holding tank. A small hole at the bottom of the standpipe allows that water to drain out slowly between rains so the process can happen over again.
