Hi, I live on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. In winter it is a cold, harsh, wet, boggy land and I need a strong, waterproof and warm boot. How waterproof are these Hanwags?
I had a pair of Berghaus Hillmaster II boots but they leaked after 2 and half years of having and I regularly waxed them. I’m cautious with purchasing my next hiking boots.
    Never had hanwags before!

Personally, for the environment and conditions you describe I would choose a full grain leather boot. I would also look at the Altberg Raby Boot or the Altberg Bergen Boot. I think they would give you better protection for those conditions you specified.

Are they ok for winter in temps down to -5*C with thick socks ?

Hi Tom, personally I would prefer a full grain leather boot in temperatures that low, but that's just my personal preference. I also find that the military usually go for full grain leather also at those temperatures.

Relax, i`ve spend a week in Lapland with -35C wearing a double sock (wool sock and synthetic sock) in these shoes. No issues, unless you stand for hours without moving. Mines are Gore Tex version. I would recommend to buy these shoes.
