Love these tips, but just a warning to tourists, Flugplatz Johannistal is abandoned but also surrounded by fences. It's technically illegal to go inside so be careful going there. You will have to find a hole in the fence and a company is currently renovating the area. Be discrete and smart when entering :)
As a person born in Berlin I personally didn’t even know all of these secret tips lol I should probably check out my city a bit more instead of staying in my apartment most of the time, thank you for this video!
As a liftime Berliner I can tell you: The platform of the TV tower is my favorite spot in Berlin. Height of 203m compared to the platform at Potsdamer Platz with 100m.
Commenting on this 3 years later: Also am a berliner. 23€ is like... nothing now. I wonder what it actually costs now. We're currently planning a trip to swiss and that really puts things into perspective on what some places CAN cost. Most of the planning revolves around thinking about chosing an airbnb instead of a hotel, simply because it gives us the option to cook our food because paying 30€+ per person for ONE meal is just insane to us. So I think a lot of tourists will think that 23€ for getting on the higherst tower in berlin is extraordinarily cheap. I mean... feel free to look up the prices for other tourist traps in other cities around the world. E.g. Empire State Building in New York, if you want to go to the top floor, that's $79 per person and children a laughable $73. For most tourists, at 23€, the question really isn't "Is this worth my money?", it's "Is this worth my time?". And it's still probably a decent experience (I myself haven't been up there since... I don't know, maybe even before the berlin wall fell.) if you didn't have to wait in line for an hour. I'm not saying it's the best thing to do in Berlin. If I thought that, I would have gone there myself in the last 30 years. What I AM saying is that to some international viewers, saying "this is incredibly expensive at 23€" may be borderline funny. It's great that there are alternatives like the Panaorama Point or even just the Park Inn but a lot of tourists will be like "yeah, I'd rather just pay 10-15 bucks more and do the popular thing." and it's not going to be the worst mistake of their life.
As a Berliner, Teufelsberg is probably my favorite spot in Berlin. It has a great view (if you don’t want to pay the 5€ you can just go to the Drachenberg right next to it), you can still go in the station and take pictures (for free) and you can look at all the amazing graffiti art that often is sprayed on huge walls. On top of that, through the 5€ you’re paying for the upkeep of the station keeping it accessible. Sidebote: Nowadays kebabs cost 5-6€ in most stores.
I've been doing a lot of planning about my trip to Berlin, and now I stumble upon this video with places no blog or webpage has even mentioned. dude, thank you sooooooooooooo much for this video!!!
I would doubt he is originally from Berlin. There is something about him or his accent, that gives me the impression, he moved from Southern Germany to Berlin.
Hallo from Phoenix Arizona. My son lives in Berlin. I spent 6 weeks there the summer before COVID. He lived in Kreuxberg then and now Mitte. I loved Berlin. Can’t wait to come back. Out of all the places you mention, I only went to Ka De We. So much to see!
My favorite Cold War tourist spot in Berlin was the Stasi Museum in Lichtenberg. It is in the former HQ building of the East German state police, and in the museum you can learn about how they spied on their citizens, and even wander through the old offices of the heads of the Stasi. It was only 6€, which was a real bargain.
I LOVED THE TV TOWER RESTAURANT. If I would have seen the TV tower alone, honestly you can find an alternative for the same view but the restaurant is something different. When I was small I saw in a movie that some people went to that rotating restaurant and made a wish to get there. Years later there I was in Berlin and when I saw the TV tower I passed by and thought that it looks like a tourist trap but then in the last day I gave in to peer pressure because my friends were keen to visit the TV tower. When I got to the TV tower in the last moment I saw it is also a restaurant there and in the last moment they had a table for me. It was so stunning seeing the sunset in that restaurant and I realised then that I made my childhood dream a reality and my experience was amazing, I was so happy, it was the best way to spend my last evening in Berlin 💖
The TV tower is a historical and architectural achievement, it will probably become the last important GDR building standing. A status the Panorama Tower will never obtain.
I totally agree. It is an unique experience. The food is not so great but the prizes there are not so high in comparision to the others in famous places. It's worth the view and you can avoid all the crowded floor under the restaurant.
But pass auf. There is a creppy guy who drives a van and he is quicking you out because aparently is not public propiety 😂 Been there, done that... Probably will be there again
I totally agree with you! Bus 100 is the better option instead a Hop-on Hop-off! And City Pirates Audio Guide is a great surprise! Thank you very much from a resident from Berlin!
Where did you get the 100 bus at the Zoo ? The 100 bus we went on was not a double decker and it was packed full of people on a boiling hot day wearing a face mask 😷
Berlin has really changed a lot since the early/mid 00’s. So many tourists nowadays (not that it’s necessarily a bad thing) - places that used to be cool are now so mainstream or uncool. I remember when we used to hang out and chill in Görlitzer Park in the early 00’s - now it’s a total no-go.
@@tas5622 Görlitzer Park is nowadays although called the biggest trading center for drugs in Germany by some people. Although it’s known for a high level of crime. I haven’t been there for a long time, so I only can tell you some stereotypes. You know media and reality are two different things 😅
For panoramic views you can also go to the Park Inn just in front of the tower. The terrace costs just 4€ and there's no glass between you and the city :)
Or go to the old Synagogue in Oranienburger Strasse

The view from the Siegessäule is very nice, too, and it's definitely on the cheaper side (even though it's extremely tourist-y). You just have to be prepared to climb a shitton of flights of stairs.

I mean the view from the Drachenberg (the mountain next to the Teufelsberg) is definitely worth a visit. But having to pay 5 Euro for the spy station is in my opinion a tourist trap because there is not much to see and you can only access very few parts of the station.

lol like the mirror flex at potsdamer platz Side note "bier und buletten" at the TV tower is always a win for the friends visiting but true it isn't cheap.
I hiked up to Teufelsberg a few months ago, only to find it closed for another month or so. I did however find a perfectly human sized hole cut in the fence, so I ventured in, climbed up the side, and was able to get to the very top of the highest dome. Was a very thrilling adventure. Unfortunately when time came to leave, some worker who was apparently there at the same time had closed up the hole I came through, so I was trapped in the spy towers 😅
Thank You so much for this!! We are going in October and this answered my questions. I wanted to stay in a place where food and drink is easily accessible but its not THE tourist place to go lol. And we are very into history so of course the wall but we want to check out other stuff. Thanks again!!!
Incredible tips!! I'll be in Berlin in March and I have planned to visit the TV Tower. But the Flak Tower seems much more interesting for me. Thanks a lot :)

No, don't skip the KaDeWe! It is Berlin's history, it is an institution, and hands down overall the best shopping experience the Germany has to offer. It is a Western civilization in it's prime form. From the business perspective, It's really not easy to put such thing together and operate it for over 100 years on the top notch level. I came to Berlin because of this video🔥🔥
Honestly this video was very well thought out and I enjoyed it. I just stumbled upon it.
Best View Point is also at Gesundbrunnen Berlin (thats in Wedding). There's a park where you can go up FOR FREE and it's gorgeous at sunset.
Thanks for the tips BTW! 🤩
This was fun to watch, and also very informative. Thank you.
I live in Berlin, but I always see your videos ,they are funny and useful.Danke sehr:-)
