  • Wauw! What a gut punch, and an excellent end to this three episode arc about Dooku. This one certainly filled in some blanks, further evolved some of the characters we know - plus, the amazing score made all of it even more emotional and hard hitting. Love this show!

Incredible how a single short took Yaddle from "background council member from Phantom Menace I barely thought about" to "one of my top 5 favorite Jedi"

If anything this is a testament to the unlikeability of most jedi and their dogmatic, narrow-minded characters.

This series has made me love Dooku so much, you can see so many parallels between Anakin and Dooku's falls.

  • @jmhaces
    @jmhaces Год назад +31

It was a nice touch to have Qui-Gon's death be Dooku's point of no return. At this point it seemed to be a bit of a sunk cost fallacy thing and since Dooku obviously loved Qui-Gon as a son, turning back to the Light Side after this would've made Qui-Gon's death pointless as well as his fault instead of a really hard and sad but necessary sacrifice made in the name of the greater good. He couldn't take Yaddle's offer to turn back now and he had to go all in with Sidious. It's interesting how Qui-Gon's death is becoming more and more central to the fall of the Republic, since now both Anakin and Dooku's fall to the Dark Side could be argued to maybe have been prevented or reverted if Qui-Gon had been there to intervene.
As for Yoda and Yaddle's speech patterns, I'd assume that maybe Yoda learned Galactic Basic as an older person and is applying the sentence structures of his native language to Basic, while Yaddle probably learned it much younger and has a greater command of it and its own grammatical structure. That's what happens in real life when languages are too different from people's first language.

I had a similar thought about this - Filoni has talked a bit about Qui-Gon being a potential father to Anakin but now it also appears that he may have been an important influence on Dooku. I really love how even in these shorts, Filoni is able to pack in so many parallels and mythic touches.

I love how great a job episodes 2, 3, & 4 did at not exactly making Dooku a lovable character, but humanizing him and his motivations.
Which makes it all the more tragic for him as you can really start to see how Sidious, used that shift in ideology Dooku had to convince him to form and lead the CIS.

Dooku and Anakin's lives paralled each other so much. Both Dooku and Anakin fell to the Jedi orders no -no of ATTACHMENT! Both were passed over for council seats. Both wanted 'order' for the galaxy. Both had cut each other's hand/hands off. Both lost Padawans, Dooku lost Qui Gon and Anakin lost Ashoka. Both were seduced by Palps and felt they could never return. The music was amazing. The lighting held so much symbolism... at one point you could see Dooku s face was half light & half dark. When Dooku lowered the door on Yadle, the buildings light went out and the light in Dooku as well. Well done.🙏

Great reaction guys, i had heard in relation to Yoda's speech pattern apparently it goes back to his master 800+ years ago, Yoda learnt how to speak basic (English) from a master who did have a speech impediment and talked in rhyme and riddles, this forged the way Yoda chose to speak and why others of his race (like Yaddel) speak normal as her master talked normal. (who know may be some day Grogu might end up speaking like the Mandalorian slow paused dialogue speech 😂) hope that kind of answers what i had learned, and always pass on what you have learned, and thanks again for the Tales of the Jedi reactions.

The line “It is you who has run , Dooku. Into the arms of evil” was so good and chilling! Much more so because it’s a contrast to the famous song: “In the arms of the Angel.”

You mentioned the music which accompanies Yaddle's final interactions with Dooku. It is very similar to (if not identical with) the "Revenge of the Sith" score - track 8 ("Padme's Ruminations"). In the movie, it is played while Anakin is in the empty Jedi Council Chamber after he had informed Windu that Palpatine is the Sith Lord and was ordered to remain their until Palpatine was apprehended.

I noticed the same thing - glad to see somebody else appreciating it! It's a very similar scene - it's where both of them are manipulated by Palpatine into taking their final steps (and also is related to the loss/potential loss of a loved one).

Dave Filoni said he chose to not have Yaddle speak like Yoda because Frank Oz told him that Yoda spoke that way in honor of his master who spoke like that, so in Daves mind that's always been why Yoda has spoke so differently.

Searching for my jaw again reading the end credit : Dave Feloni's name....
    ...
Kudos for editing Yaddle conversations. She tried until the last second to reach out. She sees the failures of the Council....
The fighting was secondary in that scene.
Her last effort raising the gate, the music , the light shining in.... And Dooku denying it, one last time.
    Bang. Darkness.
    Masterwork.

As far as Yoda vs Yaddle speaking. Yoda is like 900 years old. I'm just saying it's been a bit since he learned basic. Things change, It'd be like expecting Harold Godwinson, the last king of the house of Godwinson who lost the English crown in 1066 to speak to us today
Or better yet William the Conqueror, whose mixing of language started our drift towards modern english. It's been a bit lol

I loved seeing/hearing both Liam Neeson and Ian McDiarmid in this episode. I feel like there hasn't been enough praise for how perfect Ian was in this episode - he's such a manipulative snake, but manages to seduce his victims by appealing (ironically) to their better natures. Every vocal inflection is on point; there's more acting in this one scene than some entire Star Wars properties, haha. Something about the way he just says "don't believe her" as she is trying to get him back just gives me chills.
Another thing about Dooku wanting Qui-Gon as an ally. Not only does that play into/connect with his words in Attack of the Clones, in a way it plays into Vader wanting Luke as an ally. But Palpatine is NOT cool with his apprentices having 'allies'. His whole aim is to isolate his victims (hence even in Kenobi he flat out tells Anakin to forget about Kenobi) and be everything to them. There's no way QG would have been allowed to live after that even if he wasn't dead yet.
That score is perfect too - it reminded me a LOT of the scene in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin and Padme are thinking of each other just before he turns. There's more emotion in this short score than anything in the Kenobi score (aside from the Kenobi theme) which was a massive whiff imo. (And I've really liked Natalie Holt's work in the past so it's extra disappointing that she dropped the ball so profoundly)

Its my personal favorite episode. Such an emotional one too. You can hear and feel the sadness and bitterness in Dooku here.
Bad enough that he saw so much BS within the Republic and the inaction of the Jedi Council, but Qui-Gon's death was the icing on the cake.
I also like that while we do not agree with Dooku's actions, we understand them better. In many ways, Anakin and Dooku are very similar.
Yaddle understood where Dooku was coming from and agreed with him. Its sad that it had to come down this way with them fighting each other. Great duel too!

Interestingly the name George Lucas chose for the Jedi who had ordered the Clone Army was Sido Dius. A rather lame pseudonym used by Sidius. But he mis-typed it as Sifo Dyas so decided it was a different Jedi and created a background for him.
