Yes, everyone likes competition and letting the best rise to the top is good in principle. However, this election, the Democratic Party needs to drop their traditional philosophy of “Democrats fall in love” and adopt the Republican Party’s “Fall in line” outlook. The party needs to show that it can pivot quickly and decisively to make it clear that they are not just the alternative to Trump, but a *better* alternative.

The argument using that "keys" model - which, frankly is not worth much for various statistical reasons - has the challenge from within dimension.
